My 2012

I’m not usually much of one for recaps. I’ve written a few race recaps, and made an attempt at writing one about running the Chicago Marathon, but didn’t get very far on it. Not sure why. I don’t even like doing Top Story recaps for my 5pm newscasts. (that drives my News Director Crazy, BTW!)

So, true to form, I’m not going to recap my year, but I do want to highlight the awesome.

In no particular order:

I turned 30 in March. And it was awesome. I used to dread that age, thinking that if I didn’t have a husband, house and kids, I would be a failure. I also thought that was so old. How wrong I have been! Its not old. And its so true, “what screws us up most in life is the picture in our head of how its supposed to be.” My life is pretty good. I have a great family, friends and co-workers. And when I did turn 30, something clicked in my head; I stopped caring what other people thought about me. I decided to live my life for me, and in the moment. What a freeing feeling that is! If wisdom comes with age, I’m going to embrace it!

I did a Warrior Dash. I went completely out of my comfort zone here. I don’t like to get dirty, and I always claim that I have no upper body strength. But I got in the mud and I did ALL of the obstacles. It was awesome.

I flew an airplane! Twice!! I have wanted to pilot a plane for a long time, and I bought a groupon and made it happen. If the cost wasn’t so prohibitive, I would consider getting my private pilot’s license. I LOVED it!!

I ran my 2nd Lincoln Half-Marathon. This time I ran it with the internet. I PR’d by more than 9 minutes and had a blast. Great race. Good times.

I ran my first (and perhaps only) Full Marathon in Chicago. The internet was awesome. I loved the vacation and loved running a Full Marathon. It was hard, training sucked sometimes, but I did it, and accomplished my goal of around 5:30 hours. (I did it in 5:33:03).

I ran other smaller races throughout the year, including my race-iversary and the coldest 5k I’ve ever run!!

I’ve met some incredibly wonderful people and had some very trying times in my life and family. I gained another nephew in September and dated a guy, went on vacation with him, and had the relationship fizzle out, all in the span of 4 months.

What will 2013 hold? At least 2 more Half-Marathons, maybe more! 🙂 And hopefully many more good things.
