Omaha Half Marathon Thoughts

  • They wanted to charge $5 to park at this lot near the stadium. I’m sorry, but we’ve already paid to run this and you want MORE money? LOL Nope. Man friend lives right nearby so I parked at his apartment complex. For free.
  • They had orange slices and bananas at every single aid station! That’s fantastic.
  • It smelled funny. Like a combo of natural gas and garbage that had been sitting in the sun all day. Grosssss….
  • They rerouted it so that it was more flat (Omaha is surprisingly hilly in the downtown area, its right by the Missouri river) and that was cool.
  • The race said it would finish at the TD Ameritrade ballpark. I thought that meant inside the park. Nope. That meant we would go into the ballpark, run a lap around the inside and come back out and finish at the start line. I just wanted to be done, not run around a ballpark. Seriously? Poor planning, IMHO.
  • The food was not right by the finish line, it was over somewhere else. I did not feel like going to get it. Instead I left and drove home. I was spent.
  • The route went on a bridge over the interstate. There was a dead racoon in full rigor right on the side of the course. Gross.
  • I saw a lot of women running in running skirts. While I’m not as fanatical about them as TrivialBob, I’m not a fan. But I will say, if you’re going to wear one, please make sure it (and the shorts underneath) cover your butt. I really DID NOT need to see the bottom of so many other women’s butts. But thanks though!

All in all, the race was fun. I’m super sore and don’t think I will be running another half on a whim like that for awhile! Training is good!!
