- I have worked every Thanksgiving but 1 in the past 10 years.
- This makes me not really enjoy the holiday.
- Which is quite sad, because I used to love it.
- Spending time with family, cooking, eating. It was great.
- Now, my family makes everything and waits for me to come to their house and then we eat. Around 6:30 or 7pm.
- It feels rushed. Not as much fun.
- I miss the 2pm dinners where I helped make everything.
- But the news doesn’t stop just because its a holiday. And my family is close (45 minutes away) so I’d rather work and let people who want to go home far away get there.
- Plus I get paid 2 extra days for working Thanksgiving and the Day After! So I work 40 hours and get paid for 56. That’s fantastic.
- I also don’t really like most Thanksgiving food. I like a little turkey, some mashed potatoes (no gravy) sweet potatoes, green beans (not green bean casserole! That’s disgusting) and a crescent roll. I don’t even like stuffing. Thanksgiving is just not my thing I guess. I’m not a huge pie fan either. (can we still be friends?!)
- The station is providing a Thanksgiving meal to those of us who have to work tomorrow. So I will eat a bit of that and remember to be thankful that I have a job, one that I (generally) enjoy.
- I really can’t complain either, because I have (including weekends) 10 days off at Christmas! I saved some vacation days and don’t work a lot in December. And not working Christmas is the best trade-off!
Happy Thanksgiving Friends! May you enjoy the time spent with family and friends.
