Chub Rub & Thigh Gap

During the Lincoln Marathon last week I saw a sign that made me sad. It said,

“Chub Rub = Bad
Thigh Gap = Good
Keep running, get a thigh gap”

ARE YOU EVEN KIDDING ME?!?!!?! What kind of message is that sending to people?  I got angry with the girls holding the sign and wanted to say something. Had I not been running a race I would have. Grrr.

In other news…I started Jillian Michaels’ 30 Day Shred last night. My friend said she has trouble walking because of the squats and lunges so I was scared. Imagine my delight this morning that I’m just a little sore…not unable-to-walk-sore. That means I’m in some sort of decent shape, right? That’s what I’m going with, anyway. Today is gorgeous, sunny and in the 70′s..I plan on running after work then shredding with Jillian afterwards.

In work news, remember how I have to raise $50k in sponsorship money for our conference this fall? Well, as of today I’m at $40,500!! Whoo-hoo!! My goal was to be at $25k by July 1st, so I think I’m doing alright! 😉 I’m feeling good about my fundraising skills.

Happy Tuesday friends! Make it a great one!

Just another Manic Monday

  • Hello friends! I hope you all had a good weekend and start to your week!
  • Well, my Monday started out fine…then I discovered that I had gotten something on my white shirt. Luckily we have a bunch of t-shirts here for our student members (with lots of extras) so I rinsed out my shirt and am now wearing that one!
  • …..which also now has something on it. My Kate Spade purse strap is being weird and rubbing yellow on me. Which is strange as my purse is teal/green.
  • That text exchange is with one of my suitors. His reply to me telling him about the weight loss goal was pretty perfect! 🙂 I think I’ll keep him around! 😉
  • However, being called sexy by men is one of those things that I still have trouble wrapping my brain around. I want to ask, “are you talking about me?!?!” My mind is still stuck, I think.
  • Have you tried these Sparkling Ice drinks? Delicious and (they claim to be) 0 zero calories. Since I’ve been Soda Sober for nearly 3 years now it is nice to have some beverage variety.
  • runningfortheriesling will enjoy this: after the basement flood last week, my roomie who nearly shanked Sam has been sleeping on the couch or at her boyfriend’s house. I discovered the knife that nearly wounded Sam on one of the tables in the living room. I do not sleep with any weapons. Maybe I’m just asking for it? I don’t know.
  • I have a dates with a couple of guys this week. (Don’t hate the playa, hate the game!) Should be fun!
  • I leave on Sunday for Phoenix, AZ for a work conference. I get to meet this-incredible-journey!! I’m so excited! I can’t wait. I come home very late Wednesday night only to turn around less than 24 hours later to leave for Denver for 5 days for my Best Friend’s wedding!!! EEEE!!!

Happy Monday friends! Have a great week!

How I almost lost my life in Lincoln, Nebraska:

runningfortheriesling:

(alternatively titled: Sam’s near shanking experience)

I’m a notoriously horrible sleeper. I have been since I was a small child. So, not surprisingly, I couldn’t sleep the night before the race.

About 1:30 a.m. I scared the shit out of Melissa by popping my head into her room and asking if she thought her roommate would mind me attempting to sleep in her room in the basement. I mean, it was 1:30 in the morning, she wasn’t home, and according to Melissa she didn’t stay at the house often anyway; shouldn’t be a problem right?

Wrong.

I was just on the verge of falling asleep, when the door was flung open and the light flipped on at 2:20. I think Melissa’s roommate was far more alarmed to find me there than I was that she came home. Once the shock wore off, she very sweetly offered to let me continue sleeping downstairs with her. I declined because I knew I had to get up in a mere 2.5 hours, so sleeping was futile at this point.

What I DIDN’T know is that Melissa’s adorable roommate is a country girl and always carries a knife. I mean she’s the local meteorologist, guys…she’s tiny and blonde and bubbly. She told me the next day that when she saw her door closed she immediately got out her knife and had it at the ready. Thank the Lord we got to meet her the day before so she knew who I was!

And that is how I almost got shanked by a local TV celebrity in Lincoln, Nebraska.

What Sam didn’t know, is that this knife-toting country girl Meteorologist roomie of mine also packs heat! Megan and her boyfriend also like to go hunting so the girl owns a shotgun! It lives in her room (when it’s not flooded out!!).

It’s Friday!

  • What a week! How is it that Sunday’s Marathon feels like it simultaneously happened forever ago and just a hot minute ago?
  • I’m wearing (dress) shorts to work today. If you look close enough you can see my running shorts tan line. Good stuff. I was able to come into work yesterday for about 3 hours and wore my running clothes. I consider that a victory.
  • I came home to even more disaster. My Meteorologist roomie who lives in the basement had her entire closet fall into the flood waters. So all of her clothes got wet. I am so stressed out by the amount of stuff that is every where in my house. I’m glad this happened this week, not last week when everyone came for the race. What a mess.
  • The restoration guys came over and ripped up the carpet and put fans and dehumidifiers everywhere. When I went to bed much of it was dry. I’m celebrating the small victories. Especially since it’s supposed to rain more this weekend. Highways and roads are closed due to the flooding. I’m hoping I can get to my parent’s house about 45 minutes away for Mother’s Day weekend.
  • Our landlord even said he would help us out with the electric bill since all this would put a strain on it. Such a nice guy!
  • File this under Things That Are Weird: One of the guys that I’m dating is on a neighborhood association board and he was a guest on my old TV Station’s Midday Newscast Forum yesterday. Since we were home and taking a break from moving things my roomie and I caught the newscast. (Our other roomie is the Morning/Midday Anchor there, and she interviewed him). It was weird to see this guy I’m dating at my old TV station being interviewed by my roommate. So, so odd. She texted me after to tell me how cute she thought he was. He texted me too to tell me about it. The world is so small.

Have a great day friends, and cross your fingers and toes for no more rain! I can’t do this mess again!

7 inches of rain in about 8 hours left 5 inches of water standing in my basement.

I’m thankful for a job that understands that life happens and lets me stay home to take care of it. The restoration guys are here, it may take days for it all to dry out. We moved my roommates stuff out of the basement in record time.

My first instinct is that I need to go for a run. Because that will help, right?!

How’s your Thursday going??

Reasons I shouldn’t text after 9:30pm

I’m talking to a couple of boys right now. Last night I went to bed around 9pm. This boy had texted me to tell me he was going to play basketball around 8:30 then he’d text me after. I figured I’d be asleep and wouldn’t hear my phone.

Well, I was still awake when he texted later and I had been intermittently texting him from 9:15 on. At 10:15 he had asked me something and then shot me another text 15 minutes later to get my attention. I finally replied about 15 minutes later with that above gem.

Lessons I’ve learned: Swyping is hard when you’re asleep. Don’t sleep and text. Sleep is more important that finding out if he’s Democrat or Republican (that’s what I was trying to ask him, BTW!)

Oh Melissa. This is just another #reasonwhyImsingle. SIGH.

I’m exhausted

This weekend was the BEST. I had such a good time and so much fun with my friends! Sam and I spent yesterday pretty much parked on the couch, involved in a marathon of a different sort: “Love it or List it” was on, one episode right after the other when we got home from our post-marathon massages. I don’t think we moved from the couch for about 4 hours. #sorryi’mnotsorry

It was so much fun spending time with my Brooke and Andrew again. Sister Wives for life!! Andrew is a trooper for putting up with a bunch of girls for 3 days. But he also had some of my favorite lines from the weekend…most involving my hair and Shaniqua (my car). He thinks I have fabulous hair…but not such a fabulous car. She’s got about 217k miles on her and tends to make funny noises (I say she purrs). Either way, its been paid off since 2008!!

Andrew was concerned that we were going to be Catfished by runningfortheriesling…I mean…we’ve never met her, does she truly exist?!?!  Good news, Sam is real, and she’s really awesome. One of the nicest, sweetest, coolest chicks I’ve met. I can’t wait to visit her and C in Montana!

two-o-nine is my Soul (sole) Sister. She lovingly paced me for this race. I generally don’t like to run with others as it tends to stress me out…but Brooke and I really don’t need to talk. We just ran and she gave me whatever kind of love I needed; tough or otherwise. I would have had an awesome PR if my heart condition and a weird foot ailment hadn’t of slowed me up starting at mile 8. I’m still very pleased with 2:35:56. It was sunny, hot, and humid. So that number is great for those conditions.

I finally got to meet lifekicksback and see funhappylife2 again! Such wonderful people and the sweetest guy–Chris was saying such wonderful things about Emily-made my heart happy! Sam and I had a breakfast date with them and it was fantastic. They are great friends and I’m lucky to know them.

My Lincoln girls lindsaydoeslife xfitlibrarian and victoriafindslife are my rocks. I don’t tell them that enough. I’m so glad we got to hang out all weekend and have such a blast. Linds, I don’t think I’ve told you enough, I’m so proud of you. You got this girl! Today is the first day of the rest of your life.

There are things I’m forgetting. We didn’t take a lot of pictures…you’ve seen most of them. But I’ve found that as I’ve done more of these Tumblr meet-ups that it is just about spending time with my friends…not documenting each moment. I’ve realized that it doesn’t matter how I’ve met these friends, what matters is that some twist of fate brought us all together. And that’s the best part.

A friend is one who knows you and loves you just the same.”
