Well, Bullocks.
Alternatively, “This is why Melissa can’t have nice things.”

My phone fell out of my hoodie pocket while I was getting laundry out of the dryer. It fell face-first onto the concrete floor of my basement and the above photo is the only damage done. I “fixed” the case with some packing tape because I’m cool like that (read: ghetto) and hope that Santa (mom) takes pity on me and will order a new one! Or that superglue will work.

Also, does that second picture annoy anyone else? My clothes are disorganized and creepin’ out of my dresser drawers at the moment. I need more storage space! For now, I shove things inside and then wonder why my t-shirts are wrinkled. But apparently I can’t be bothered to worry about making them fit into the drawers at the moment. First world problems with Melissa.

I had a great run tonight…4 miles, negative splits, set to Christmas music. My night was complete with a viewing of “The Holiday” by candlelight.

My heart is full today. Christmas really IS about the giving. It’s good to remember that. 🙂

Sweet dreams friends!

Sarah Koenig Buckles Under the Pressure of Serial’s Final Episode in This Outstanding Parody

Serial ends tomorrow. I’m equal parts depressed and excited. This nails where we all are…who really did it? Will this resolve anything? (I doubt it!)

Sarah Koenig Buckles Under the Pressure of Serial’s Final Episode in This Outstanding Parody

The camera and the lighting don’t do the color justice…It’s a hunter green with some sparkles.

But this dress you guys. Of all the weddings I’ve been to this year, this is my favorite dress from them all. It fits like a dream and hugs my curves in all the right places. And it was on sale! Score!

Fabulous wedding of my former roomies tonight…I lived with the bride and groom until June of this year. They are wonderful people. I’m so happy for them.

I don’t have another wedding until my bff’s over memorial day. I need a break!

Oh, and a big happy birthday to my momma today! She’s the best. Love you mom! (I know she’s reading this!)

Enjoy your Sunday friends!

What is this sorcery? 53° in the middle of December? I’ll take it!

I ran a 5k this morning. It would have been more except I have a head cold that caused me to cut this run short.

I caught up on the latest episode of Serial during my run and managed to get a double honk from some rando in an SUV. A former high school classmate texted me that she saw me running.

Afterward I hit Target to mostly finish Christmas shopping. There’s a gift card left to be gotten, and things that still need to be delivered, but otherwise, I’m done! I think it’s the earliest that’s ever happened before!

I’m relaxing now before I have to shower and get ready for the last wedding of the year for me. (Thank goodness!) I did buy a fabulous new dress…pictures to come! It’s hunter green, curve-hugging, lacy and sparkly. Basically, the perfect holiday wedding dress!

Happy Saturday friends!

My Secret Santa Haul.

I cannot wait to read this book! I love love love this movie and I bought the book for both my dad and my bestie for their respective birthdays. Do my co-workers know me or what? And the pedicure kit comes with a beautiful red nail polish, perfect for the holidays!

We had treats and I spent part of the day outside, enjoying the 59 degree temperatures that is Lincoln, Nebraska in the middle of December.

Dinner and a movie date tonight, ANOTHER wedding tomorrow! (the last one of the year, 5th since August!) and my mom’s birthday on Sunday. Oh yeah, and the 60’s are expected to stick around through Sunday so there will be a few outdoor runs.

Life.Is.Good.

Happy weekend friends!

Apparently I’m channeling trivialbob in my red coat tonight.

A teenage boy came up to me when I walked by the jewelry counter at Target and asked if I knew where another pair of earrings like the ones he held in his hand were.

I told him had no idea, perhaps where he had found the first pair?

He mumbled something and walked back into jewelry to find them.

Dude. Just because my COAT is red, doesn’t mean I work at Target! Sheesh.

Scenes from a Thursday morning.

  • Christmas trees! In my office and at my house. I love this time of year.
  • OOTD. Look! I made an effort today! And on a Thursday no less! Navy blue and cream.
  • I woke up with the beginnings of a cold yesterday. two-o-nine and I were FaceTiming last night and I could feel it taking hold. It’s trying to get me. I won’t let it win! I’m fighting this with everything I’ve got, including a Chai Tea from the campus Starbucks. The heat feels good. **Bonus photobomb by my eldest nephew, Jonathan.
  • In other news: I think our cleaning lady is OCD: She twists the doorknobs in the hallway by the office back and forth 8-10 times when she opens doors. And there are A LOT of doors in this hallway where she cleans. The noise is slowly driving us all bonkers.
  • Random question: Before I quit OK Cupid, another guy asked to meet next week. I agreed and he gave me his number. I feel fairly ambivalent about him. Should I even go? Or just let it go? Any advice Tumblr? I have yet to text him.
  • Secret Santa gift exchange and potluck tomorrow with my dear co-workers. I should probably finish shopping. Whoops! There’s nothing like a deadline to light a fire under me!
  • Someone in a small Nebraska town is going through my blog, page by page. They must be horribly bored by now. I’m sorry you thought this might be exciting. It’s not. It’s just the musings and photos of a pretty normal girl.
  • I have been at work for 3 hours now and my phone hasn’t rang once. I could use a nap.
  • I’m doing dinner and a movie (Mockingjay) with my friend Keith tomorrow. We’ve gone to see the other 2 Hunger Games movies together, so now it’s a tradition.

Good news! Tomorrow is Friday. We’re nearly there friends!

Hump Day things

  • I’m shutting down the Ok Cupid profile. At this point it is just getting comical. I got another email from a guy my age I had deemed to be fairly normal last night. We have exchanged quite a few emails. Last night he asked me what are somethings about me that he wouldn’t like.
  • I told him this felt like one of those interview questions that you can’t win at. I said I’m sometimes indecisive, talk a lot, I HAVE to run sometimes. Like will drop other things so that I can run. Things like that. I then asked him the same question.
  • He replied, saying he likes to hunt and can be gone all day. (I’m not a fan). He’s not skinny or buff, just average. Likes to do chewing tobacco. And then the kicker: when he’s in a relationship he has a “high sex drive.” And that can “bother some people.”
  • DUDE. I’ve never even met you and you’re telling me this? Nope. No thank you. I quit.
  • I got an email today from a 22-year-old college student who thinks I’m stunning. I appreciate that. I really do. But I’m just at a totally different place in my life than the college students I see each day on campus. I am ready to settle down. They’re ready to party. Oy. Why do I attract the 21 and 22-year-olds?
  • Tonight is the holiday meal at the dorm where my office is. My co-workers and I are going. I’m very excited. I used to love these meals when I was in school at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Delicious food and desserts. Total Win.
  • I hit the snooze for over an hour this morning, so no run before work. I woke up with a stuffy nose and sexy pflegm voice.
  • Do you guys always feel better about how your body looks after you get done with a workout? I do. I currently feel mushy and gross. I know it is related to not running this morning and going to eat at a buffet with a college friend last night. But still. Blech.

Have a great Wednesday everyone!

Hi Friends!

This post will be all over the place, so bear with me please.

  • I went to Denver for a long weekend for a wedding and a birthday. It was fun. It was 60 in Denver on Friday and 28 degrees in Silverthorne in the mountains with 3 inches of snow. I went only knowing the bride and groom and bridesmaid. I was sat at a table with the other people from Lincoln who I had never met before. By the end of the night, they were telling me to stay at their rental house with them that night so I didn’t have to drive an hour back to Denver. It was fun!
  • When we were returning the rental car we were stopped at a light. As I looked to my left there was a truck full of men around my age. They rolled their window down and smiled and stared at me. I just smiled inanely back. Dudes, man.
  • Sunday I went Christmas shopping. But, like any good American consumer, I also found myself shopping for…myself! I had liked that navy blue skirt at The Limited a few months ago. But I decided that $60 was entirely too much to spend on it, so I decided against it. Well, imagine how happy I was when I went back and found it on clearance, marked at $8.99 with another 40% off! I paid $5.77 in exact change for that sucker! Love it.
  • I spoke at my Alma Mater today–The University of Nebraska-Lincoln, College of Journalism and Mass Communications. I was part of an alumni panel about students who are (or in my case were) in the biz. It was fun. And they gave us these lovely pads. My professor (and friend) outed my blog to the entire group!! (insert minor panic attack here!) But I decided, whatever, are a bunch of 20 something year old college kids going to want to read it? Probably not. One girl asked me about my work at the Non-Profit and getting out of the biz. I told her that Journalism’s dirty little is secret is the terrible pay and hours. And I was burnt out on both.
  • I ran into a former classmate at this panel discussion. He hadn’t seen me since graduation, but we are friends on Facebook. He kept telling me how great I look and how awesome he thinks it is that I run marathons. I forget that it really IS awesome. Not everyone can or will run one. And that shouldn’t be something I just brush off. It deserves to be celebrated.
  • I joined OkCupid last week. Among the gem of emails that I’ve gotten have been these 2. I’ll give the first guy some props for his message. I don’t mind being told I’m hot! 🙂 But, as much as I wanted to ask him if lines like that have EVER worked for him, I decided not to engage the crazy. Good choice Melissa, good choice.
  • Also, 21 year old, PLEASE! If I don’t respond, please don’t send a another message. I wanted to tell him: Well, I have nearly 12 more years of life experience than you do. I just don’t think that I want to date someone who recently became legal to drink. Also, no, just no.
  • Another busy week ahead…isn’t that how it always goes?

Have a good one friends!
