It is 80 degrees outside. I repeat 80 degrees!!!!!

Why am I stuck inside ALL FREAKIN’ DAY? Gah!

Straight to Corky after work tonight for a sold out class on Wine Down Wednesday. (half price bottles of wine).

Let’s talk about Life:

  • As of yesterday, I paid off another Credit Card!!! This is so, so awesome. I have one left to pay off. I’m thinking that will happen by the end of the year. Fiscal Responsibility FTW!

  • I have 11 more months of Student Loan Payments left!!
  • I did NOT run last night. One of my bestie’s called; she and her boyfriend went ring shopping on Sunday. There was girl talk to be done. I regret nothing.
  • My cold is kicking my butt. No morning run this morning. 😦
  • However, I’d rather be sick now than the week before the marathon. So I’m fine. No worries. I need to run for my sanity and because I love it. So maybe tomorrow or Friday.
  • My friend made me a marathon music playlist. I’m excited to listen to it. I need some new jams.

That’s all I got friends.

 Happy Hump Day!!

Yuna- “Rescue”

She thinks she’s all alone
And all her hopes were gone
And so I wrote this song
So she can move along

Yeah, she’s got a light in her face
She don’t need no rescue and she’s okay
Yeah, she’s got life in her veins.
She don’t need no rescue and she’s okay.
No SOS needed; no rescuing, she’s fine out there

This song speaks to me right now. I don’t need rescuing, I’ll be fine. Someday.

I have on my happy pants today!

When I bought my white pants it was a bogo situation so I bought these lovely yellow ones. I’m a fan. Such a bright, cheerful color. And my sparkle boat shoes are the best part!

Some Tuesday Things:

  • Busy week ahead, work, more work, A Dentist Appointment about my tooth (and 6 month checkup, yay!), a visit to my Cardiologist for my annual Heart Echo. (at 7am so that should be fun!)
  • Long run this weekend: 13 miles.
  • It’s going to be 80 degrees here tomorrow. Yeah baby!
  • The sun is coming up at 6:57am tomorrow. An early morning outside run may be happening!
  • My bestie, her husband, and I are going to run a 5k together in Omaha in July. I’m so happy about this.
  • Our Local running company had a post on Facebook last week where you tag your friends who inspired you to start running. My sister in law tagged me. Made my day!
  • Froyo tonight with my Lincoln girls!
  • I have a stupid cold. Sore throat, runny nose, foggy head and stuffed ear. I do not like it. I’m seriously annoyed right now.
  • My training for this Lincoln Half has been lacking for the past 10 days. Whoops. Tonight we run.

That’s all I got for now. Have a great Tuesday friends!!

OF COURSE It would happen to me!

Last night, while at a Omaha Symphony Orchestra performance, Ghosts of Boyfriends Past came up to bite me in the butt.

Sigh. Seriously.

I was a friend’s concert and a guy that I went out with 3 times 2 years ago was there.

Oh, not only was he at this concert with about 400 people in attendance. But he sat RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME!

A backstory: he’s related to my friend’s co-worker (who is now a friend of mine) I found this out when I met this co-worker in December. We laughed about it. Never in a million years did I think I’d see him. Or sit less than a foot away from him!

So that was awkward.

But it gets worse!

There was a reception afterwards ($75 or you had to be on the list. I was on the list, thankyouverymuch!) And co-worker and his boyfriend and my bestie and I were all sitting together. Since co-worker and This Ex are related they had to say hi. So he comes over WITH HIS FIANCE! to talk to co-worker. I am having a discussion with co-worker’s boyfriend. And then there’s a tap-tap-tap on my shoulder.

Yup. You guessed right, the Ex wanted to say hi and introduce me to his fiance. Oh yeah. Did I mention that HE STARTED DATING HER AFTER WE BROKE UP? I am Good Luck Chuck. I quit.

I stood up, he introduced us, I was polite, sweet and ON. He was saying “Melissa and I…” And then his fiance interrupted him. I really wish I knew what he was going to say! I ended up saying “Ex and I went out a few times a couple of years ago!” It was fine. We were laughing about how small the world is. That’s because his fiance is cousin’s with my rooomie and co-worker!

I GIVE UP! Gah.

Oh yeah, Ex Man Friend was supposed to be there too, but he texted me and said he wouldn’t be able to make it. Probably for the best, let’s be honest. That would have been 2 exes in 1 room with me.

I need to move. Far, far away. I’ve dated too many men here in Nebraska. I can’t get away from my exes. They just keep coming out of the woodwork.

My passport came, my passport came!

What a difference nearly 15 years makes!
The first picture was taken when I was 17 years old. They told me not to smile. Look how round that face is!
My new picture was taken last month. They made me put my hair behind my ears. Something about they needed to see my ear lobes? I don’t know. Seems odd. Whatever.
Either way, I like this one much better than the old one! And now I’m good to go to go see Brooke two-o-nine in June! Hooray!

A decent day for some miles.

With my vacation and the tooth infection coming back I have not done any running since my 12 mile run last week. Its all good though.
Last week I did pretty good pace-wise. I want a sub 2:25 for this Lincoln half Marathon. I let myself walk more than I would during race day. But i ran some of the Marathon route (which has a decent hill at mile 9) and i dominated that hill, so i think I’m fine.

3.1 miles today in 34:49. 62°, and 20mph wind gusts in my face the whole time.
I’m calling this a win.

Vacation has been good to me. Shopping, time with the fam, good food and fun. I’m a lucky girl.

Happy weekend friends!

Hey your story inspired me a lot :) :) I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind sharing some tips to stop the junk food craving !! I workout like crazy but fall flat when it comes to diet :/ and I ve been in a weightloss plateau from 6 months :(

Thank you so much!

I totally know what you mean about working out like crazy and then falling flat when it comes to diet. The truth is: you can’t out-exercise a bad diet. Bodies are made in the kitchen and toned in the gym. It took me a long time to learn that. Some tips to help with the junk food cravings: Don’t buy the junk food. If you don’t have it around, you can’t eat it. Also, there is something to be said for moderation. You should do all things in moderation. When I was first losing weight I cut out the junk foods completely. When I got to my goal weight I added back in some treats. If you can have them in without binging, that’s great! But if you can’t then I totally understand.

For me, its about changing my mind and how I viewed some foods. You can’t view them as bad or forbidden. That’s when the cravings start. But if you consciously think about what you’re fueling your body with, you start to make informed and mindful choices. Will a box of Jr. Mints fuel me on my run? Not really, no. The sugars will give me quick energy, but make me feel like crap, to be honest. But choosing healthy fruits, veggies and other foods will fuel me for my days and my runs. Its hard to wrap your mind around it, but if you can, it will be worth it and I know you can break through that plateau! Good luck and let me know if I can help with anything else!
