This post is important

Because running and I have been fighting lately. When my life gets busy I tend to find it hard to balance working out and everything else. So something tends to fall by the wayside. That has been running lately.

But I’ve been doing better this week: I ran a very hot and humid 2.15 miles last night after work. I got up at 6am and did another 2.15 miles this morning before work. I’m not setting any land speed records, and I’m certainly not running a lot of bulk mileage. But I’m getting out there and I’m doing something. And I consider that a win. I’m also in a good body place–I’m down 5 pounds. Yes, I’d like to lose about 5 more, but the world will not end if I don’t. I’m comfortable in my skin. And I think that’s what really matters.

A few things:

  • My roomie asked the landlords if she could get a dog. They acquiesced…adding on a $250 pet deposit and carpet cleaning. I don’t want the dog and am not paying for it nor will I pay the deposit. It’s not that I don’t love dogs, but I just don’t want the responsibility. What does that say about me as a 33 year old woman?? Whatever.
  • I bought a washer and dryer. My dad is picking them up and bringing them over on Friday. I’m actually super excited about this level of adulting.
  • I have another wedding this weekend. My co-worker is getting married. I’m wearing the dress I wore to the wedding 2 weeks ago. No shame in my game. It’s supposed to be 96 degrees on Saturday. POOL TIME!
  • In a weird way, I don’t like the first day of summer. It means that the days will start getting shorter. I’m not trying to be a pessimist…but I love the build up to most events–I have a hard time enjoying the actual event. Does that make sense? I love summer and everything about it. But I just have a hard time knowing that, eventually, winter is coming. Maybe I’m just a realist??

On that note, have a good Friday Eve friends!

Hump Day Spark Date!

  • I think I need to cut my hair. It’s freaking long.
  • 1 week from today I’m heading to Orlando!!!!
  • I decided against the Husker Football tickets. They (only) cost $800 but, and this is a big but, they have a “donation” attached to each seat. At $2k a piece they would have cost me nearly $5,000!!! Yeah, right.

I’m not made of money!! Sheesh.

  • My cell phone is being a jerk. Rebooting, being slow, etc. I’ve only had it since September.
  • I found a ginormous spider when I walked outside this morning. I nearly screamed, but I was able to snap this picture before I walked around the other way. I do NOT need that in my life.

Absolutely terrifying.

  • I nearly got in a car accident last night when a woman blew a red light. I honked at her and slammed on the brakes. Get it together lady!
  • Things are really quiet in my office. The struggle to actually want to be productive is very real today.
  • I’m hoping to fit in a run tonight, but I’m going to my hometown to watch my 8 year old nephew play baseball. He’s pretty adorable.

Happy Wednesday friends!

Post-work run in the sun.

80° degrees, brilliant blue skies, and a bright sunny day combined for a very hot and sweaty 3.35 miles this afternoon. But it felt great to get out there and sweat!

running-matt and I were skyping yesterday. I was wearing a strapless dress and sweater but took off the sweater when I got home. Matt thought I was naked. Sorry to disappoint you Matt! 😉 Also, Matt multitasks sometimes when we Skype: he was playing videogames last night during our chat. I think I yelled “pay attention to me!” at one point. He put the controller down and listened then! 😉

Now I’m going to find something for dinner. There’s not a lot of choices…I really should go shopping!

a-yogi-who-wods is crushing my spirits

  • Christian and I are involved in our own FitBit Challenge this week. My lack of running is killing my step count. And he is crushing his. That’s irritating. Motivation for me, I guess.
  • I bought that lamp and table for $30 last night from a friend who is downsizing her home and moving into a townhome. She has pretty great taste and she cut me a sweet deal. I’m a fan.
  • The sunshine came back today! However, my Meteorologist roomie posted the above photo. Lincoln averages about 29 inches of rain a year. We’ve gotten 18 inches of rain in the last 6 weeks. So that’s awesome.
  • I’m wearing this dress today. While my co-worker and I went for a walk after lunch, a woman stopped me on the sidewalk and said to me, “that yellow dress is fabulous!” Made my day! I feel like a ray of sunshine!
  • Is Melissa that hard to understand or read in a email? I’ve been called Melinda, Martha, Natalie, Gretchen (what is THAT is about?!) and Melanie. Seriously people, look or listen a little closer! It’s not that hard.
  • I’m going running after work. I’m pretty excited about it. The weather is perfect to pound out some miles on the pavement.

Have a great Tuesday friends!

Monday things

  • Look at this adorable dress! $12.50 a Old Navy this weekend. It’s a little too big on top (story of my LIFE!) so I’ve safety pinned it. But how cute is it?!?? I feel so sassy!
  • It’s been raining here again. I’m about to build an ark. My basement has more water in it. SEND HELP!
  • I’m in a really good place right now. Life is good. ‘nuff said about that for now! 😉
  • My friend and I bought our tickets for Harry Potter World and the Magic Kingdom for our trip next week! I cannot wait to have butterbeer and get a wand! I’m so freaking excited!!
  • There are Husker Football Season Tickets available. This may not seem like a big deal to people, but to Husker football fans this is HUGE. The games have been sold out since 196something (more than 320 consecutive games) and due to Big 10 Rules they’ve got some tickets that opened up. This is a very tempting (but expensive) idea.
  • I need to go run today. I ran 4 miles on Friday after work, but that’s been it… I need to get my butt in gear.

Have a great week friends!!

I’m too old to stay out late on a school night.

My former sports director from my old tv station was in town so the old ochos went out for some karaoke. I blissfully sank into bed around 12:45am. That 6:30am alarm SUCKED. But I had a great time.

I ran 4 miles today! It’s the most I’ve run since the Lincoln half in May! Whoops.

Also, I’m Betty freakin’ Crocker, apron and all. I made my famous banana bread for a former coworker who is leaving the tv station.

Bad news…there’s more water in my basement. The landlords were over for awhile trying to fix it. Le sigh. I think it’s a bigger issue than just praying it doesn’t rain too much at one time! Oy.

Happy Friday friends!

OOTD and Hump Day Things

  • I ran 1 incredibly hot mile last night after work in 95 degree heat. It might have been a really dumb idea…but it felt good to move and sweat. I also did the Jillian 30 day shred. I was sweating profusely after that was over. So that’s gross.
  • At 10am it is already in the mid 80′s–we’re looking at highs in the mid 90′s again. Hello Summer! So I wore dress shorts to work today. No shame in my game.
  • That’s Broyhill fountain on the UNL campus. I went to the union to buy stamps this morning and had to talk myself out of just sitting there with my feet in the water. Maybe this afternoon?
  • Man Friend and I might hit up a College World Series game this weekend. He’s checking into tickets at work today. The CWS has been in Omaha for more than 50 years, but I’ve never been to a game. I’m not a huge baseball fan…as I’ve only ever been to 2 games in my entire life. But he enjoys it, so I said I would go.
  • I have a massage after work today! I had forgotten I had scheduled that, so I’m pretty excited. Should just be a nice and relaxing time.
  • My running shorts tan line is coming along quite nicely. You can probably see it in the photo above. So sexy.

Have a great Wednesday friends!!

Hot weather and Husker hats

I am a big fan of this weather. I love pool weather and sunshine and just generally being outside in the heat. However, I also love my air conditioning. I’m complicated.

The Nebraska Bookstore (seller of all things Husker related) is closing next month so we trekked over during our lunch hour to see what was on sale. The entire store was half off, so I snagged that hat for $15! I needed a new ball cap.

Thanks for all the encouragement, RE: the man friend. I like him, you guys. I’m cautiously optimistic here, but I’m just going to stop fighting my commitment issues and enjoy it. We spoke again last night about the possibility of me going to New York with him in August for a wedding. The idea doesn’t freak me out now. I’m still not ready to book the flight, but I don’t feel like it would be a bad thing if I were to go.

I’m currently obsessed with the photographer who shot the wedding photos this weekend. His name is Wyn Wylie. He is 22-years-old and does AMAZING work, he travels all over and even is a lecturer at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I wish I had a reason to have a photo shoot done–he’s that awesome! Check him here. Seriously. Do it.

I’m planning on trying to go for a very slow run after work…then a little Jillian after that! The man friend and I have plans to hang out tonight. I’m kinda excited to see him! WHO AM I?!?!
