Look who it is!!
a-yogi-who-wods came through Lincoln this morning on his cross-country road trip back home to Southern California…so we grabbed brunch. (BTW-Christian is such an awesome guy because he totally didn’t have to drive through Nebraska, but he did so we could hang out! Great friend, or a great friend?!)
I first met Christian back in September as he moved across the country. This time was even more fun because in those 7 months we’ve become pretty good friends who can just pick up where we’ve left off since the last time we spoke.
Safe travels as you make your way across the country my friend! You better believe I’m coming to San Diego to see you and Zito! 🙂
Tumblr Dreams
- Just so you all know, runningshew is good people. Amy texted me at 4:15 this morning to get my lazy butt out of bed and go run. Thanks friend! I needed that.
- So, runningforbiscuits was in my dream last night. Specifically, Maya was in my dream. In the dream, I was hanging out with the 2 of them and I asked if I could snuggle with Maya. Karlee told me to go ahead and as I went into cuddle with Maya…it turned out that Maya was really a man dressed in a dog suit!!!
- Then, the man in the Maya suit put his paws (hands?) around my throat and told me he was going to kill me if I told Karlee that he was a man in a dog suit!!
- WHAT KIND OF DREAM IS THIS?
- THEN a-yogi-who-wods walked in and told me we were going back to college to take these specialized cooking classes. I was grateful for the distraction and ran away from the Faux-Maya who was trying to kill me.
- We went to this class and I realized I needed all of the supplies, including a pencil. I went to go borrow one, and this woman told me it would cost me $8. I told her that was highway robbery and refused to pay it.
- By the time I walked back in, the class had made all these complicated dishes and the teacher (who turned out to be J.K. Simmons) told me I was so far behind I could never catch up. So I just left and said, “oh well, then I guess I fail.” In my dream, Christian had stayed in class and made the crazy complicated dish. Whatever dude, just leave me high and dry!!
- At this point, Amy texted me to wake up, which I did gratefully. That was one weird dream!!

Wednesday things
- As you can see from the above picture, my friend Rob got a selfie stick. We took that gem of a picture to commemorate the occasion.
- It has been cloudy, gray, and drizzly here for days. My psyche can’t take it. I am so tired. All I want to do is sleep. Getting out of bed in the morning is a huge struggle. All of my runs are happening after work and I really don’t like that. I need to force myself out of bed earlier to get my runs done before work.
- I got our Gas bill in the mail the other day (we have gas heat and a gas water heater). This winter the bill has been averaging $130/month. Last month? $60. I’m so excited! Then I realized I was excited about a utility bill…and I realized that I’m officially a grownup. Huh.
- I was the “talent” for another announcement video at my church last night. It will air on Sunday. This time the shoot had to do with babies. They’re going to edit some babies into the video in post-production. Should be funny to watch me be freaked out by babies appearing out of nowhere!
- a-yogi-who-wods will make a stop in Lincoln tomorrow and we’re grabbing lunch! It’s only been about 7 months since I last saw this cool dude. I’m excited to see him again on his way back across the country to California!
- I’m taking next Wednesday-Friday off. I cannot wait. My momma and I are going shopping and relaxing. I’m so, so excited.
Funk-y Town
- The first photo shows my feelings about the fact that I snoozed my alarm so many times this morning that I couldn’t get up and run before work. Now I have 9.5 miles to do after work. Not a fan. Not a fan at all.
- I never realized how much the weather affected my mood until I I realized that I haven’t seen the sun since Saturday. I’ve been a wee bit down and kind of ehhh because of that. I’m in a funk.
- Despite the gray skies the world is exploding with color here in the Heartland. This pretty pink tree is on my morning commute. I like the bright yellow and pinks.
- And I give you last night’s Easy run. I actually had a decent run. Negative splits (my last mile was 10:42! Whoops, not the 12:05 I was shooting for!)
- After the marathon training is over, I’ve been contemplating what my next plan of attack is. And I want to branch out into more classes at my gym–including Spin and weight lifting classes! Although, Fun Fact: the guy I made out with a few New Year’s Eves ago is the instructor for the spin classes at my gym– File that under Reasons I DON’T want to take these classes! Oy! My Life.
- In the past day I’ve been accused by TWO different men of not eating. Dudes. I eat. A lot. I promise.
- I’ve gained some new followers lately. Hello friends! A quick intro: I’m Melissa. I’m 33. I used to be a TV News Producer, now I’m the Membership Director for an Educational Non-Profit. I’m training to run my 11th Half Marathon in May using the Hanson’s Half Marathon Method. I write about running, my life, and all the random things that happen to me along the way! Welcome aboard!

Ex’s & Oh’s by Elle King.
I’m obsessed. My friend Heather always makes me Marathon Playlists and this was one of the gems on there.
Lincoln Half Marathon training, long 10.
The winds are killing me. They need to stop. But I pushed through. Today is family Easter stuff so I’m excited to hang out with my nephews.
There’s a beautiful Magnolia tree blooming in my parent’s neighborhood. It smells amazing!
And, because it’s me. Something random always happens on my runs. Today, there was this woman sitting on her porch who started talking to me while I walked by, trying to open my fuel package. She told me how nice it was outside, then asked if I was “local”. (Umm, yes? Weird question) Asked if I was speedwalking…I told her I was running, but refueling. She then asked if I needed help opening it…even though I clearly had it. I told her no…and kept walking. She kept talking. Weird. So weird.
Happy Saturday and have a great Easter friends!
It’s my Friday!
- I’m having a really good hair day. Also I’m wearing green pants. And I have a 3 day weekend. It’s a good day! <insert praise hands emoji here>
- We had a good thunderstorm last night. There’s just something so soothing about those. I woke up discovered the tree in my front yard has bloomed. Yay spring!
- The world is small, but Lincoln is smaller. Case in point: during my commute this morning I was stopped at a red light in downtown Lincoln, just minding my own business when a I heard a horn honk. I thought they wanted me to go, but the light was still red. Instead, I looked over and in the car next to me was lindsaydoeslife! She was on her way to work as well! In the 9 months I’ve been at this job I’ve never seen her during my commute. Good stuff. Oh yeah, Linds, your left taillight is out! 🙂
- My massage last night was fantastic. My legs feel great today! I have 6 Tempo miles tonight to test them out.
- I’m making Lincoln Half Marathon plans with runningfortheriesling today. I get to finally meet Sam and see two-o-nine and funhappylife2 and meet her hubby lifekicksback NEXT MONTH!! I’m a happy girl!!
- I’m also heading to Phoenix for a work conference in the middle of May so this-incredible-journey and I are making plans to finally meet too!
- And I get to have lunch with a-yogi-who-wods next week as he makes his way back across the country??!? So many Tumblr Meetups are ahead of me!!
I should really settle down and try to get some work done on this fake Friday of mine! Have a great one friends!!
