Thursday Things

  • 3 Tempo Miles this morning. All the sweat. Is it weird that I actually enjoy the SOS runs in the Hanson’s plan? Then I guess I’m weird. Shrugs. Whatever.
  • Today’s Notes from the Universe was spot on, like usual:

“When you love who you are, Melissa, you become much more lovable.
Not that that’s why I love you.
Love you,
   The Universe”

  • My next door neighbors are moving soon. Their son is the one that we pay to mow the lawn and scoop the snow. What am I going to do when he’s no longer there?!?!
  • As I’m looking into my housing options when our lease is up I’m actually contemplating buying a house!! I have a lot of research to do first, but it is an option. Adulting, yo.
  • My bestie and her husband have decided to try to get pregnant. This changes EVERYTHING! I’m happy for them, but mildly freaked out at the same time.
  • I am involved in an exciting race against time with the post office and my migraine medicine running out. I have 2 Topomax left and the drugs are scheduled to be delivered on Saturday—the day I run out! Fingers crossed they arrive on time!
  • I help my church make our announcement videos that air during services each week. I’m usually behind the scenes, helping with the scripts or camera work. But, as I’ve told you guys, I do voice-over work on a freelance basis and spent 10+ years in TV News so I can read a Teleprompter fairly well. So last night I was the “talent” in the video and my shtick was to do it in one take—which I TOTALLY did. Nailed it. Mic drop. I’ll post here if you guys want to see the final product (and hear me!)

That’s all I got. Have a fantastic Thursday Friends!

Lincoln Half Marathon W7, D2. 8X600 AKA: Speed Work Baby!

I’m tired and everything hurts.

Ok, so maybe that’s an exaggeration. But I am tired and sore. My legs are fatigued after running 34 miles in the past 6 days.

This morning I miscalculated my mileage and thought I had to run a total of 9 miles, instead of the 7 miles I actually had to run. So I was pleasantly surprised to be done with my run by 6am. I had gotten up and on the treadmill by 4:30am, hence the exhaustion.

Tomorrow is a rest day. My poor, tired legs need it. two-o-nine told me to get Tart Cherry juice to help with the tired legs. I know she and runningforbiscuits swear by the stuff. So I hit Trader Joe’s after work for that and other groceries, including tonight’s dinner (and lunch tomorrow!) sushi!! I’ve been craving that stuff for a few days now. And after walking by the flowers I decided I needed some to brighten up my house. No Valentine?? No problem!! I’ll give myself flowers, thankyouverymuch!

I’m spending a quiet night with Jess, Nick, Schmidt, Mindy and Danny tonight! (New Girl and The Mindy Project!!)

Happy Tuesday Friends!

Lincoln half marathon W6 D6 & D7

Easy 5 & Easy 9. Target pace 12:05-12:55, actual 11:49 & 12:26.

A perfect weather weekend. Mid 50s and sunny. It’s amazing how running outside is so much better than running on the treadmill. I’m a big fan of all this snow melting away.

My legs were tired when I started running today, but when I hit 5 miles it felt like I had just started running. I like those kinds of runs.

When I was about 2.5 miles in to my run today a couple of guys whistled at me as they drove by. I waved and kept running. Thanks for noticing dudes.

Happy Sunday evening friends!

How do you keep your hair so beautiful?!

Aww!! Thanks Anon! You’re so sweet. I wasn’t sure if Anon was kidding after seeing my hair in these pictures. However, I’m going to choose to believe that you’ve been following along on this little blog for awhile and have seen how I style these locks most days.

I really (usually!) get the nicest anonymous messages!

In order to make this happen:

…there’s a bit of a process involved.

I use this shampoo & conditioner: (It costs $3.99/bottle!)

Because I color my hair I use a shampoo and condition that nourishes it and extends the life of the color. (I just color it a little darker than my natural color.)

Then I use these products when drying and curling my hair:

And then I curl my hair. Some days, I don’t even do that!

I hope this helps, and I hope you weren’t bored by this reply. If you want to know anything else, just ask!

I’m going to a dance fundraiser tomorrow night to help stop human sex trafficking. The dress code is “dress to impress”.

What the crap does that mean?!

So I searched my closet and pulled out this little number. The last time I wore this black lace dress was April. In my head, it wasn’t going to fit. So I decided to torture myself and try it on tonight.

Like a freakin’ glove.

I was pleased with this development! Please ignore the post-run hair. I know that’s a sexy look! But tonight was a tempo run and it was a good one!

Does this dress work? Too much? Too formal? Maybe I should go more business casual? Gah! This is hard! Help!!

15 Things That Make Me Happy

I was tagged by the lovely undressedlunch!

  1. Sleep. Glorious, glorious sleep. Somehow, the world always looks better after a good night’s rest. Right?
  2. Dogs. In particular, my parent’s dachshunds Molly & Sophie. They are the best.
  3. Running. Even when a run sucks, somehow it’s still good, ya know? When you just go out and run forever, leaving all your cares and worries out there on the pavement. Those are the best runs.
  4. Family. Mine is awesome. They always have my back. I love them.
  5. Friends. The ones I’ve had for my entire life (since I was 5) to the friends from high school and beyond, to the ones I’ve made on here. You’re all pretty amazing people.
  6. Words. Whether I’m writing them or reading them. I like how they fit together, how they sound, the phrasing of certain ones together.
  7. Music. I like a variety of music and am always on the lookout for that next song that makes me want to sing along or dance.
  8. Summer and Sunshine. I’m pretty much always in good mood from May-September.
  9. Travel. I love exploring new places whether its somewhere far, far away…or just a new place to eat, or part of my city I’ve never been.
  10. When my hair curls just right and my outfit is exactly how I pictured it. Those days don’t happen all the time, but when they do? Watch out world! Everything’s coming up Milhouse!!
  11. Massages. Professional or otherwise.
  12. The smell of Lilacs in the spring. Those flowers are a part of my childhood. I’m taken back there each time I smell them.
  13. When my 3 nephews call me “Emmie.” The oldest one couldn’t say Melissa and he finally called me Emmie. The name has stuck and that’s what they all call me. I love it.
  14. Unexpected messages from cute boys. The kind that make your heart beat faster and a goofy grin to appear on your face. Those are the best.
  15. Hugs and kisses. From family, friends, boyfriends. Heck, even from my dogs! 🙂

I met a really cute guy today!

His name is John and he lives two houses down from me. He came over with his snowblower to help while I was scooping our driveway after it snowed another 6.5 inches this morning.

I told him he was my hero. He told me he uses his snowblower to pick up chicks. I giggled at that. He was dressed in coveralls and one of those hats with fuzzy flaps.

Oh yeah, John is about 70 years old and is retired. He’s at home all day with “grandma” (I’m assuming he means his wife?)

He was very sweet and I plan on baking the two of them some cookies since he saved me time and from being frozen!
