Hump Day Things

  • You guys, I got up and RAN before work this morning!! Sure, I woke up late, so I only got 1.5 miles in, but the struggle to drag my butt out of bed has been plaguing me for days. But I finally managed to peel myself out from under the covers! Go team!
  • My fiance and I spent last evening snuggled on the couch, watching “Can’t Buy Me Love” on Netflix. I love that movie. It was a good night.
  •  It is supposed to snow here today and tomorrow. We could get anywhere from 3-6 inches and I’m so over it. Let’s just have spring now, ok? Ok.
  • My weight is still a stagnant thing. I count calories, track macros, and I just can’t lose. Talk about depressing. I have to believe that it has something to do with my hormones and I just want the weight to come off again. I’m so freaking frustrated.
  • I am in serious need of a vacation. The way my job works: is that you can’t have any of your vacation time until you’ve earned all of it. July 1 I will have 4 weeks of vacation, 6 personal days, and 12 sick days to use until next June 30. I’ve had the personal days and sick days for this year, but no vacation time. I need the beach and some sun, stat.
  • Did I tell you we’re having a destination wedding? Jamacia next May! I am beyond excited. I have always wanted a destination wedding and since we aren’t from the same place, this works out perfectly!

Ok, I should get back to work. Have a great day friends!

5 Happy Things

The always-positive and motivating @snapthistiger tagged me to name 5 things that make me happy. Without further ado:

  1. Puppies. Any dog is a puppy, no matter how old. I love to cuddle them and get kisses. Dogs are the best. There’s a reason dog is God spelled backward.
  2. Sunshine and warm weather.
  3. Exercise. Despite never actually wanting to do it, I love the feelings I have when I do it, and when I get done!
  4. My sweet nephews. They are the best.
  5. A really good book. I’ve gotten lost for hours in many good books, promising myself, “just one more chapter” until my bleary eyes couldn’t take it anymore.

Who wants to share? Tag, you’re it!

I am in a MOOD

…Where EVERYTHING annoys me today. That includes, but is not limited to:

  • A woman who works in my hall and STOMPS instead of walking. She always wears heels and it is almost like she doesn’t know how to walk in them properly, so she walks so HEAVY. Make it stop!
  • When you have a Doctor’s appointment to hopefully FINALLY figure out what is wrong with you and woman issues and they make you reschedule in ANOTHER TWO WEEKS! No. Today. I want to be seen today. So freaking annoying. I get it, he’s doing Labor and Delivery, but argh!! I just want to be seen!!
  • When people (monsters) leave time on the microwave and don’t clear it. Drives me batty.
  • Loud talkers. There is a woman who works on this floor who has a voice that can cut through steel. I have to shut my doors to get any work done and even then I can still hear her through the concrete wall.
  • Snow. It snowed here over the weekend–about 3 inches or so. Back in Nebraska, it was 74 degrees. Sigh. I miss that.
  • People who say fruits don’t really have carbs because they are simple sugars. Dude. They still have carbs. they just have less than breads and pastas. Argh.

Ok. I think I’m done complaining. Mondays, amiright??

Happy Hump Day!

@morningmiles tagged me to post 5 things that make me happy. Since I have been MIA, you get a selfie for your troubles of reading this!

  1. Sunshine and warm weather.
  2. A really good book that I can’t put down.
  3. My boo, my family, and my friends.
  4. When you wake up and see you’ve only been asleep for like an hour and have SO MUCH TIME left to sleep!
  5. Anything sparkly.

I’m tagging whoever wishes to do this.

In other news….

I filed my taxes today. First time I have ever done it myself. I usually just had my family CPA do it, but as it cost over $125 for that, I decided to try it myself. Less than $30 later, I have my refunds heading my way. Hooray! I plan to pay off my credit card and use the rest to pay down my medical bills. Yay, adulting.

I feel like I have nothing important to say here lately. Oh, there are things I can talk about, but who wants to listen to me complain about health issues (female variety), the struggle to lose weight again, wedding planning, and the other minutia of my life? I am getting another ultrasound and a second opinion on Monday, so maybe they will be able to help me figure out what is wrong. Le sigh.

I’m going back home to Nebraska for a few days in April! My old roomie is getting married and I am going back for the wedding. My fiance isn’t going with–it will be cheaper just for me to go, plus then he’d have to find someone to watch the dogs. I am pumped to get back to The Good Life for a few days.

I’ve been really enjoying my treadmill. I did a 4.5 mile loop that I loved back in Nebraska a couple of times this weekend and have mapped out others that I am excited to try!

Have a great rest of the week, friends!

I LOVE my treadmill!😍

It has the Google maps street view option so I can make my own routes and run wherever I want. This morning I ran my old neighborhood in my hometown. The other morning I ran my old neighborhood in Lincoln. It was awesome for two reasons; I got to run my old stomping grounds, and the street view was from the spring and summer and it was a sunny day, so that made it even better because it was snowing outside!

I ran 3.62 miles, had some breakfast and now I’m about to relax for a little while before tackling the rest of the day. Have a great day friends!

What a week!

The photos aren’t chronological but bear with me:

  • My new treadmill came last night! She is gorgeous and runs like a dream! I love her. So much.
  • On Wednesday it snowed 9 inches here during the day. Like from around 9am to 5:30pm. They closed the University (where I work) early and I went home and hunkered down. It is currently snowing right now, and we are supposed to get about 6 more inches this weekend. Le SIGH.
  • Last Saturday, our friends went with us the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival where they build an ice castle each year. Then we went up to Lake Placid to stroll around and grab a bite. We have to go back in the summer when it is actually pleasant to be outside so that I can hit all of the cool shops.
  • Charlie is better! His lump just went away! I had been praying for that sweet boy pretty hard. So glad he’s ok.
  • My sweet girl, Rio. She loves her bed. (I just had to throw that picture in for balance. And because puppies.)
  • I’m on week two of my kettlebells class and I am SORE. Especially my hamstrings and booty. But it is a good sore.
  • My new goals are to run 3-4 times a week 3-4 miles each time, plus do my classes twice a week. I’m hoping to jump-start that fat burning process again. Something’s gotta give.

Have a great weekend, friends!

Time Flies

It has been 6 months since I moved to upstate New York. In some ways, it seems like it hasn’t been that long, but in others, it feels longer. I miss Nebraska and my friends and family, but I am making a life here too, and that’s pretty cool.

Moving from one part of the country to another has given me a unique perspective on local colloquialisms and word pronunciations. A few musings are below:

  • They play the Canadian National Anthem before all sporting events, before the US National Anthem. It confuses me every single time.
  • They call this area the “North Country” and it is everywhere. Businesses, on the radio, tv, etc.
  • Being from the midwest I call it “pop”, not soda. Here it is soda, but in Rochester or Buffalo, they call it pop too, and it makes my heart happy.
  • People here have little cabins on the reservoirs that they use during the summer and fall on the weekends. They call these their “camps”. I would call them a cabin. For the longest time, I thought everyone was SUPER into going camping here and I was VERY confused by what they were saying. Now I understand, even if I don’t actually know why they call these nice houses “camps.”
  • People put the emphasis on what I would say is the wrong syllable of words, including “Elementary”. They say “Ele-men-TARY” and every single time I want to stop them and ask them why they do it. I have asked a few of my friends who were born and raised here and it is just the way they say it. How very odd. Check dictionary.com. It will actually say it for you, and the emphasis is NOT on that syllable. Oy.
  • People say “I seen” a lot here. Like a lot a lot. Makes my ears bleed every time they do it. *shudders* NO. Just NO.
  • I know we had the conversation about what we call a winter hat, and I know that just depends on which part of the country you are from, but I grew up calling it a “stocking cap” or a hat. A lot of people here call them the Canadian “toque”, which I am just not used to.

Those are just a few things that I have noticed in my 6 months of living here in the frozen North!

Update

  • Charlie’s neck lump got really big, so we took him to the Vet again and they referred us to surgeons. Before we can get into see them, the lump started shrinking. So we are just finishing his drugs and going to hope that it goes away before his appointment. The surgery will cost anywhere from $3k plus.
  • But he’s just the sweetest boy so we have to do whatever it takes to help our boy.
  • Thursday night we are going to a ball! My boo is an Army Recruiter and his unit is having their ball and I finally get to go! I’m super excited! I rented the runway and I can’t wait to get all dolled up!
  • I think I told you that my treadmill died last week. I was devastated. That thing has been through a lot with me. Well, NordicTrack is having a sale, and 18 months no interest financing, so I bought myself a brand new treadmill! It should be delivered next week or so. It has a lot of bells and whistles and I am stoked for a nice, new machine.
  • In the meantime, I’m still spinning at home and doing some free weights.
  • I have signed up for a kettlebells class that is offered at work. It’s only 30 minutes twice a week but should be good and help me tone.
  • My nutrition coach changed my goals to only hitting my calories and protein. It is CRAZY hard to hit macros within 10% every day, and I find that I am good about hitting protein, but when I have to hit carbs and fat too, I don’t do well. So far, so good. I naturally do not go above the carbs or fat goals when I don’t stress about them AND the scale is moving down. It’s slow, but it’s going down!
    • I think that’s all I got, have a great week, friends!
