  5. becky-balances said: uh oh! they are speedy—my brother has one and likes it.

It appears I’m not the only one who has this problem! Melanie-I hope I do get to meet you someday! I promise I will try not to damage your electronics when it does happen! 🙂

–I’m still doing some soul searching. The issue is: I don’t want to spend much money on this. So $250 is a sweet deal. I’m going to Winnipeg in June to run the Manitoba Half with Brooke, so I’m saving money for that. And starting this month, I’m finally saving for retirement! (go me!) Also, my rent is going up $100/month now that the roomie has moved out. So $250 is reasonable to me. I really only want it to use to go on the internet and to (gulp!) start writing my unique dating stories. It might be in book form, or in something else. I don’t know. But I want to write them down. And I can do that in Google Docs since there are no other programs on it.

Choices, choices.

Well, crap…

I am kryptonite to electronics.

My work computer malfunctions a lot. It’s the only one that does. Street lights turn off when I go under them, walking or driving. It’s very strange. My laptop won’t charge properly unless you jimmy the cord. Watch batteries die at an alarming rate. My iPod and Garmin malfunction all the time. Me + electronics= bad news.

So I’m not surprised to find that my laptop will no longer turn on. This sucks. There is a lot of pictures on there (my computer guy brother may be able to get them for me) but otherwise, they may be gone forever. That sucks.

I am currently looking at buying a chromebook. Anybody have one? Do they love it? I really just want to use it for the internet, and to upload photos. I’m going to get an external hard drive! I’ve learned my lesson.

Anyway. Chromebooks? Are they good? Do you like them? HAAAALLLPPPP!

Starting 2014 off right

After a ridiculous New Year’s Eve last year (which I still get teased about today! My co-workers brought it up today. Lots of judgement!) I decided to have a low key New Year’s Eve this year.

My bestie and her husband had a get together at their house last night…friends, food, games and fun. Ex Man friend was there, and we were chatting for awhile, but he left early and went home as he was not feeling well. He texted me after he left saying he was sorry he felt bad, that it was nice to talk to me, and that I’m easy to talk to. And that he liked that. I agreed, we have a great time talking and its very easy between us. I miss that.

At 12:01 am, when the registration for the Lincoln Marathon opened, I tried to register. It caps out at 12500 spots and after a very tense 30 minutes I finally got in! 4th consecutive Lincoln Half, and 7th overall. I’m a happy girl. The marathon sold out in 11 hours and 34 minutes. Fastest time ever!!

Random moments of the night: a man at the party was knitting. He was making a coffee cozy. He gave it to me at the end of the night. He then asked to follow me on Twitter. I rarely tweet. So that was interesting.

Today, I’m at work. The Huskers beat the Georgia Bulldogs in the Gator Bowl—-24-19! First bowl win since 2009. I have one more Husker Postgame show for the season, and then I’m free for 9 months! YEAH!

While at work, Brooke and I are researching flights for me to come see her in June to run the Manitoba Half Marathon. I’m getting excited!

It’s been snowing here. It finally quit around 2pm. I wish I could just stay inside with a good book and a blanket. Maybe tonight.

Have a great day friends!

I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes.

Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You’re doing things you’ve never done before, and more importantly, you’re Doing Something.

So that’s my wish for you, and all of us, and my wish for myself. Make New Mistakes. Make glorious, amazing mistakes. Make mistakes nobody’s ever made before. Don’t freeze, don’t stop, don’t worry that it isn’t good enough, or it isn’t perfect, whatever it is: art, or love, or work or family or life.

Whatever it is you’re scared of doing, Do it.

Make your mistakes, next year and forever.

Goal Achieved!

At the beginning of the year, I wanted to run 1200 miles. It was a lofty goal. But in 2012, I ran 900 miles (while training for a full marathon) and thought this would be no problem.

Um. Yeah, no. Things didn’t work out that way.

I revised my goal to run/row/bike 750 miles this year. Last night’s 2 miler put me at that number! 695 miles ran and 55 miles rowed and biked. I’m a happy girl.

The funny thing? I can see a pattern of when I am dating someone and when I’m not with my running. It falls off:

February and March: yup. Dated the Douche-Bag. Single in June thru mid August then Whoops, it drops off again. November sucked for mileage! Get it together Mel! Oy.

Have a good New Year’s Eve Friends! I’m going to Omaha to hang out with friends…ex man friend might be there.  Most importantly, registration for the Lincoln Half Marathon opens at midnight and I’ve got to do that! It sold out in 16 hours last year!

I love this community!

  1. racingtheghosts said: Message me the info and I can grab it this weekend…
  2. abitofsilliness said: If we had an IKEA here, I’d gladly use this as an excuse to go there! 🙂
  3. sarahspeaksnow said: I can totally do it next weekend if ya want in MN!

I got all these replies and a message from TrivialBob saying he could go too! Jason, I sent you the info. If you can’t/don’t have time Bob said the IKEA is in his city. I just appreciate all you and your willingness to help! Thanks friends!!!

Would anyone be willing to help me out?

Tumblr friends, I’m asking for a strange favor.

Would anyone who lives near an IKEA be willing to go there for me and buy me a bathmat? I would send you money for it and shipping too. I’d send you some treats to make it worth your time! 😉 Please please please!

It’s this mat :

A link to the website is here. I want it in gray. They don’t sell it online. And since I live 3 hours from the nearest IKEA (that doesn’t even have it in stock!) It makes it hard for me to get it. The Minneapolis IKEA has it in stock.. (hint, hint) to any of my friends in the Twin Cities!

I know its dumb. But I really want this specific bathmat in this color. I like it. So if anyone would be willing to do me this solid will you please message me

Thanks for indulging me!!!!

Please please please please!! Thanks friends!

2013 Recap and 2014 Goals

This was not really my year. I’m not a big fan of recaps, but some highlights (or would they be lowlights?)

-I did a lot of online dating in the first few months of the year. Those experiences gave me guys named “Over-Sexed Scotty, Blow-Job Justin, Douche-Bag Scott, The Lobbyist” etc. So many losers. So little time. But such GREAT stories! I don’t think I’ve even told you guys all of them.

-I did my 3rd Lincoln half in May, and managed a sub 2:30 half (2:28:11) and a new PR! A few weeks later I did the Fargo half with Brooke, Johnna and Bailee. Epic and awesome. Wonderful vacation and great girls. I miss them.

I declared the summer, the Summer of Melissa and decided to focus on me! No dating, relax and have fun. I didn’t really follow the no dating rule: I went out with Blender Blake and then started dating the now Ex Man Friend in August. Whatever. I’m not sorry about it.

In September I ran my 4th Half Marathon of the year in Omaha. I signed up 3 days before and was only 9 minutes off my PR! Not too shabby for no training.

October and November were rife with drama in my love life (when isn’t there?) as man friend and I broke up and got back together twice. We’re friends now. It’s kinda weird but fine.

——-

Now we’re here. On the brink of a new year. I have very high hopes for 2014. I need it to be a better year. Not just for me, but for my family too. My dad needs a better job. I’d like one. I want to get stronger and faster. Try new things. Have a more full life. So here’s my list of goals for 2014:

1. Run a sub-2:25 half. Its only 3 minutes off my previous PR. Totally doable.

2. Run 3 halfs: Lincoln, the Manitoba Half in June with Brooke! And Omaha again in September.

3. Do more things that scare me. Whatever they may be. Saying yes to more things or dates or whatever. Just put myself out there even more.

4. Date with an open mind, but stay true to myself. Guard my heart but take a chance. This may involve online dating. We shall see.

5. Fall in love with every aspect of my life.

6. Cook more.

That’s about it. I think these are doable and fun goals.

Here’s to a fantastic 2014 friends! Let’s make everyday count!
