The times, they are a Changin’

Hey friends! Remember me? This has been A WEEK. All caps required. Let’s catch up, shall we?

  • Tuesday my mouth started hurting. Reminiscent of my April issues where I had an infection. I got antibiotics and pain killers. The pain pills made me so sick to my stomach that I ended up getting sick before, during and after work yesterday. I managed to get myself sent home AND only kept down 2 Popsicles yesterday. So I’m down 3 pounds. I guess that’s a Win? Not a way I like to lose.
  • Dentist tomorrow to see what the problem is. I’m so over it.
  • I went to my new job to sign some papers Tuesday and found out some awesome new perks and benefits, making me very excited to start there next month!
  • For example: I get my own office(!) with a bathroom inside it! and a window! and I get all the holidays and weekends off! No more working Husker Football games!!!  I get 2 weeks paid off at Christmas. No Joke. And it doesn’t count against my vacation time (18 days of PTO a year). I’m deliriously happy about the Christmas thing. 401(K) match, and so much more. I feel like I’m dreaming. Please don’t wake me up if I am.
  • I signed the Exit Paperwork at the station today. So very surreal. It has been nearly 11 years that I’ve been with The Ocho. So strange to think that next week is it. My last hurrah. There will be tears.
  • I’ve been working on future schedules for the newsroom. That’s weird too. There will be new faces and new names that I won’t know personally. So odd.
  • I’m almost done at Corky. That’s odd too. I’ll miss that place.
  • A part of me feels like I’m starting a new path, the grownup path, of my life. Like I’m on the edge of something great. A major change in my life.

And I like it. Feels good friends.

A good run feels like being part of the wind, flowing down the street with a power so strong yet so gentle. It feels like fire, warmth spreading from head to toe instantly. It feels like a shower for the soul, fresh and clear. The sun tickles your fingertips and you could go on forever. In those moments, the world seems so simple and the edge of heaven seems right at your fingertips. And non runners always ask why running is enjoyable. I just shrug because I know the secrets of a distance runner cannot truly be expressed in words to those who have not experienced the wind, fire, and water.

This weekend in Photo Form:

My bestie and I (and her husband and my Ex) did the Color Run in Omaha Saturday morning. (the ex and bestie’s hubby are right behind us in that first pic!) It was her first 5k. We walked most of it. But I’m so proud of her for doing it! And we all messed around and got even more color on each other! We all went to brunch together after. I had a lot of color on me…I had to document it!

Post-Run Shower selfie with an Iced Peach-Vanilla Chai Tea Latte. It was AMAZING! My bestie and her husband own a coffee shop in Omaha. This is one of the fun summer drinks. I’m obsessed.

This was a good weekend. A Fun Run. (which reinforced the reasons I don’t like to do fun runs: crowded, no timing, and you have to walk a lot of it.) There were pedicures. Then I spent the evening at my friend’s farm in the country celebrating her birthday! They have a real outhouse–although it’s bolted shut! So you can’t use it!

Also, because this is MY life, a guy that I went out with a couple of times about a year ago (who ghosted me! He later told the friend when she asked what happened, that I was “very tall.”) was also at the party Saturday night! We ended up chatting and it was fine.

There was a good run this morning, then pool time this afternoon as the heat invades Nebraska again. 113 degree heat indices! Ouch. And I baked a cake for a co-worker’s birthday Tuesday.

All in all, solid weekend. I’m spent!

Hope you had a great one friends!

Only 2 weeks left at The Ocho!  EEEKK!!

what’s the rest of the limo/froyo story???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? inquiring minds want to know :)

So you wanna know why a limo picked me up and took me to get Froyo last night? Well, here’s the story:

My co-worker owns and rents out a couple of buildings. He also happens to own a limo. He pays his tenants to drive him and his friends around so they can go out drinking and be safe while doing it. (makes sense, right?)

So anyway…I got home from my bike ride last night and he called me, saying that he was coming to get me in an hour, and we were going to get froyo, because he had a surprise for me. I wasn’t given the option to say no (which I usually do with this guy!).

So imagine my surprise when he pulls up in the limo! He told me he had it out to change the oil and wanted to go out and do something fun. I was a little embarrassed by the stares we got! He drove, I was in the back. We pulled up to the Froyo place and this little girl was staring at us. She called out “Hi!” And waved enthusiastically at us. I think she thought I was famous!

So that’s the story. tl;dr: my co-worker owns a limo and he wouldn’t take no for answer so we took it to get froyo. True Story.

I’ve been tagged by Christian in the six selfie challenge to post photos of myself that I like.

The story of my yellow pants.

My coworkers and I frequent a Jimmy Johns near the station. They know us. They know our names and orders. Its fine. No judgment.

I haven’t been to the Jimmy Johns in a long time because I’ve been trying to eat healthy and eat at home. But today I was running late and decided I would grab some Jimmy Johns for lunch. my coworker and I went into the restaurant, got our lunch, and left. We chatted with 1 of the guys that we know that works there. For some reason he always calls me Rachel, and then he remembers that my name is Melissa.

This afternoon one of my other coworkers called Jimmy Johns to have them delivered to the station. When he was on the phone to them the man asked if Melissa was there and was wearing yellow pants. My co-worker confirmed that I was wearing yellow pants and said yes. He said to tell Melissa he was sorry he had called her Rachel earlier. My coworker relayed the message. We all got a good chuckle out of that story.

I found it funny that he remembered several hours later that he called me by the wrong name AND that I was wearing yellow pants!

but the best part? I don’t know the Jimmy Johns man’s name! and I like to tease him for not remembering mine!

Whoops! 😉

My day in pictures.

I wore my new cardigan with seahorses on it to work today because it was 55° this morning!

I sent that snapchat to my friend for her birthday. I’m blowing her a kiss. So now I’m blowing you all a kiss too. Lucky you. 😉

We got new work phones at the Ocho today. They say our names in the display. I enjoy that it says mine for the next 2.5 weeks. They are also very fancy phones. We have a 45 minute
Training class on them!

My car turned over 210,000 miles today. I snapped a picture when it hit the
Palindrome of 210,012. The little things give me joy.

Have a good one friends!
