Starting 2014 off right

After a ridiculous New Year’s Eve last year (which I still get teased about today! My co-workers brought it up today. Lots of judgement!) I decided to have a low key New Year’s Eve this year.

My bestie and her husband had a get together at their house last night…friends, food, games and fun. Ex Man friend was there, and we were chatting for awhile, but he left early and went home as he was not feeling well. He texted me after he left saying he was sorry he felt bad, that it was nice to talk to me, and that I’m easy to talk to. And that he liked that. I agreed, we have a great time talking and its very easy between us. I miss that.

At 12:01 am, when the registration for the Lincoln Marathon opened, I tried to register. It caps out at 12500 spots and after a very tense 30 minutes I finally got in! 4th consecutive Lincoln Half, and 7th overall. I’m a happy girl. The marathon sold out in 11 hours and 34 minutes. Fastest time ever!!

Random moments of the night: a man at the party was knitting. He was making a coffee cozy. He gave it to me at the end of the night. He then asked to follow me on Twitter. I rarely tweet. So that was interesting.

Today, I’m at work. The Huskers beat the Georgia Bulldogs in the Gator Bowl—-24-19! First bowl win since 2009. I have one more Husker Postgame show for the season, and then I’m free for 9 months! YEAH!

While at work, Brooke and I are researching flights for me to come see her in June to run the Manitoba Half Marathon. I’m getting excited!

It’s been snowing here. It finally quit around 2pm. I wish I could just stay inside with a good book and a blanket. Maybe tonight.

Have a great day friends!

2013 Recap and 2014 Goals

This was not really my year. I’m not a big fan of recaps, but some highlights (or would they be lowlights?)

-I did a lot of online dating in the first few months of the year. Those experiences gave me guys named “Over-Sexed Scotty, Blow-Job Justin, Douche-Bag Scott, The Lobbyist” etc. So many losers. So little time. But such GREAT stories! I don’t think I’ve even told you guys all of them.

-I did my 3rd Lincoln half in May, and managed a sub 2:30 half (2:28:11) and a new PR! A few weeks later I did the Fargo half with Brooke, Johnna and Bailee. Epic and awesome. Wonderful vacation and great girls. I miss them.

I declared the summer, the Summer of Melissa and decided to focus on me! No dating, relax and have fun. I didn’t really follow the no dating rule: I went out with Blender Blake and then started dating the now Ex Man Friend in August. Whatever. I’m not sorry about it.

In September I ran my 4th Half Marathon of the year in Omaha. I signed up 3 days before and was only 9 minutes off my PR! Not too shabby for no training.

October and November were rife with drama in my love life (when isn’t there?) as man friend and I broke up and got back together twice. We’re friends now. It’s kinda weird but fine.

Now we’re here. On the brink of a new year. I have very high hopes for 2014. I need it to be a better year. Not just for me, but for my family too. My dad needs a better job. I’d like one. I want to get stronger and faster. Try new things. Have a more full life. So here’s my list of goals for 2014:

1. Run a sub-2:25 half. Its only 3 minutes off my previous PR. Totally doable.

2. Run 3 halfs: Lincoln, the Manitoba Half in June with Brooke! And Omaha again in September.

3. Do more things that scare me. Whatever they may be. Saying yes to more things or dates or whatever. Just put myself out there even more.

4. Date with an open mind, but stay true to myself. Guard my heart but take a chance. This may involve online dating. We shall see.

5. Fall in love with every aspect of my life.

6. Cook more.

That’s about it. I think these are doable and fun goals.

Here’s to a fantastic 2014 friends! Let’s make everyday count!
