Monday Coffee (Chai Tea Latte) Date?

  • It’s chilly here and I am not ready, despite the fact that it is October 22. I know, I know, it’s time. But if I could try living in a perfect 72 degrees environment right now, I would totally do it. Just to try it. For like a year. At least.
  • Our Christmas cards are ready to be mailed the weekend after Thanksgiving! I addressed them and got them all stamped this weekend. I LOVE having that checked off the list!
  • I had my quarterly employee evaluation today and I got a GLOWING review! My boss said I am doing a great job, and agreed with my self-assessment. It feels good to be in a good place, professionally.
  • I will be out of town for the midterm elections, so I have already submitted my absentee ballot, two weeks ago! I like knowing that I have already voted. Plus, they give you an “I voted today” sticker so you bet I’ll be rocking that while I’m at my conference in Orlando!
  • My coworker cleaned out her closet this weekend and brought in a bunch of clothes that no longer fit her, but will fit me! I’m excited to have some new-to-me items that I don’t have to pay for!
  • Running is still happening. I am still using the Transform App, and am enjoying it. I am not seeing any weight loss–likely because I honestly haven’t been very committed to eating well and consistently exercising. I gotta get my poop in a group–we are about 7 months out from the big day! EEEEK!

Have a great week cats!

Good morning sunshine!!

I like Saturdays because the bf usually makes me breakfast either before or after I run. He’s a good cook! This morning I brought over my chai tea mix and made that to go with breakfast. Delicious!

The heat and humidity broke last night with torrential rains and thunderstorms. This morning it’s in the 60s and feels fantastic. I’m going to head out for a run here soon.

We have a going away party tonight, and I’m watching my roomies dog for 5 days. He’s currently playing with the bf’s dogs, which we hope tires them out.

It feels like fall here, and that’s pretty cool. I hope you all have a great weekend!!

Wednesday afternoon Energy drink date. (What? It’s a thing! Or not. Whatever)

-Have you tried the It Works! Energy drinks? They are delightful. They taste like pear. Very long story short, when I went to New York in August for that wedding with my ex-boy-friend I met a friend of his who is very high up in the It Works! Company. We tried those energy drinks and I LOVED them. Delicious.

-I went to help with a video announcement for my church last night. I was supposed to be the videographer, that’s why I ran before I went there. Of course, they asked me to help be the talent so I put my stocking cap on and made it work. It’s supposed to be Christmasy anyway, so we’ll go with it!

-Perks of working for State Government: When the President gives federal employees another holiday off, we get it too! The Prez signed an order giving us a half day of holiday pay on Christmas Eve so I’m done at 11:30am (since I come in at 7:30!). As I have no vacation time I am super excited about this! See also: I’m excited about having MLK Day, President’s Day, Arbor Day, Columbus Day, and Veteran’s Day off next year!! #blessed

-A friend texted me last week out of the blue asking me to babysit his kids tomorrow night while he and his wife go see “Star Wars” for his birthday. At 9:30pm. On a weeknight. I agreed because I’m too nice, but I’m currently regretting saying yes because WHAT WAS I THINKING?!?! That’s so late! I go to bed at 9 during the week. I love sleep. Sleep is my favorite. Past Melissa is dumb for saying yes.

-Did I mention that I LOVE my new job? I get to do new things each day, but they are the same kinds of things. Kind of like when I was at the TV Station. I get to write again. I’m meeting tons of new people…including a cute boy or two! 😉 And I LOVE LOVE LOVE my co-workers. My boss is awesome and I get to flex my time. If I only take 30 minutes for lunch then I can leave 30 minutes early. I’m a fan!

-I have a bit of Christmas shopping left to do. I buy presents for my mom from dad and I need to finish that up. I also need to get a few other things but then I’m done! I’m hoping to get that finished tonight or tomorrow.

Guys. It’s almost Friday Eve. We’re so close! Have a good one!

Friday Five Coffee Date

  1. It’s football Friday so we wear our Nebraska red. I’m also wearing dress shorts for the 2nd day in a row. It’s warm, muggy, and rainy so I’m dressing for comfort. And we’re closing the office at 2pm ahead of the long weekend! Hooray!
  2. I have had at least one meeting every single day this week. Sometimes, we meet to decide when we can have meetings for other things. MAKE THE MADNESS STOP!!!
  3. I’m heading home to hang with the ‘rents for part of the long weekend. The BF is planning a weekend full of pro football and house cleaning. I, on the other hand, will be watching college football and relaxing. I think I win. 🙂
  4. I have yet to have to move offices. I’m crossing my fingers it won’t happen.
  5. I can tell I have not been running enough lately; when things frustrate me I go from calm to insanely irritated in an instant. I need to run/workout to keep me mellow. It’s safer for everyone around me! 😉

Fake Friday Five Tea Date!

  1. It’s my Friday! I’m taking a comp day after working a Saturday last month for our winter board meeting. 3 day weekend come at me!
  2. Those of you who live alone can probably relate to this: do you ever have those moments where you think, “This is it. This is how I die” after you start choking on something or nearly fall down and you’re all alone? That happened to me this morning. I didn’t get all of my protein shake mixed up and inhaled some of the powder. Cue a coughing attack, eyes watering, I wasn’t breathing. It was just awesome. I finally regained control of my lungs and obviously survived, but it was touch-and-go for a moment there. (My roomies weren’t home this morning, one is the Morning anchor at my old TV station and the other was staying at her boyfriend’s house, so no one was there to witness my demise.)
  3. Weirdness of the day: There was a cop at the house next door this morning. He was creepin’ around in the side yard between our houses. When my roomie came home to get ready for work she told me about it, so we went into my room (where the windows face that house) and opened the blinds to see what was going on. We couldn’t figure it out. But there we were, sitting on my bed in the dark, staring out the window, looking for a cop–or some random creeper. Just a normal day.
  4. I’m dog sitting for my friend’s little chihuahua mix Friday-Tuesday. Her name is Lola and she’s a doll. I’m excited for some puppy time.
  5. I was on the phone to a friend last night and paced the house to get my steps in. When we started the call I was at 6k steps. I hit 10k in less than an hour. Boom. Multi-Tasking at its finest. 🙂

Have a fantastic day guys!

Friday morning Chai Tea Latte Date! Alternately titled: I’m feeling good about my body today!

  • I went to the gym again last night! 2 days in a row! I didn’t need to lift, just run 3 miles. And even though I can run those miles at my house on my treadmill, my friend said we HAD to go to the gym to do it. So I went. It was good. My treadmill at home has fans built into it–when I get a new one some day when this one dies, that is a MUST HAVE. The gym treadmill does not have fans. I was a hot, sweaty, dripping mess. Felt good.
  • At the gym last night in my line of sight CONSTANTLY was the guy who said “She’s very tall.” Ugh. Seriously?! Thanks for that.
  • That first picture I’m strategically holding the mug to hide a zit on my chin. Like that? Me too!
  • I’ve felt kind of gross and squishy the past few weeks. Today? I’m feelin’ fabulous! It’s amazing what consecutive days of exercise and eating well will do for you! 🙂
  • I don’t think I told you guys, but my 2 best friends bought me a Nook Glowlight for Christmas. This was not something I wanted. I love reading “real” books. The smell, the feel, the act of turning a page? Love it all! So I struggled with wanting to keep it/use it. After much discussion, I opened it last night and will start using it this weekend. Ex Man Friend and I discussed it a lot. He suggested I keep it-ease of use, its light, I can take it anywhere in my purse, etc. Also, my besties would get mad if I returned it!
  • I will do another post on how much I love my Chromebook. It is awesome. I don’t really want it for much besides the internet and writing so it appears to be the perfect thing for me.
  • Also, the Women’s Fitness Room at the Gym is GREAT! It has all the weight machines the the gym has-just inside a room for women only. I LOVE IT!
  • I work at Corky tonight and Sunday. Hoping for some decent tips!

Happy Friday friends!

Tuesday morning coffee date!

  • I got up and ran this morning! Victory! 3 miles. I made the mistake of doing a leg circuit last night. Felt that in my quads this morning! Oof.
  • I woke up at 4:45am this morning and I couldn’t go back to sleep. I’m feeling ok now, but I’m sure I will be feeling it later. The wall be hit around 1pm I think.
  • I’m wearing my favorite running shirt! Just for you Becky!
  • I tried a new way to curl my hair this morning. Not sure how I feel about it. Looks pretty much the same as it usually does. Whatevs.
  • Someone reblogged my post about not crying while reading “The Fault In Our Stars” and said I am not human because I didn’t cry. I think Celeste and I have it right: Journalists cannot be fazed! 🙂 However, a lot of you didn’t cry while reading it either. So I’m in good company!
  • I bit the bullet and made a decision about the laptop situation. I bought a Chromebook. It was $242. I have Amazon Prime and I used my Discover Card and applied my rewards to it which made it $214 with free 2 day shipping! The Discover rewards is awesome-its a $1 to $1 match on Amazon so you don’t lose anything by using your rewards there.
  • I’m going to try this whole weight lifting and strength training thing this time around during Marathon training. Can’t hurt, right?
  • I’ve suddenly found myself committed to 4 Halfs this year! How great is that? Lincoln in May, Manitoba in June with Brooke, the Brownville, NE half on July 4th with Ginni and maybe someone else! 🙂 and the Omaha half in September with me, myself and I. Unless someone else wants to do it with me! I like that I have a year of races lined up. Good stuff.

Well, I should get back to work! Happy Tuesday Friends!

Chai Tea Latte date!

Using the Newsroom Keurig this morning. That makes me very happy! It’s about 30 degrees outside, yesterday it was 60! We are supposed to get some snow this afternoon. I’m not ready for winter either Sam! Snow is pretty, but I’d rather it just do it on Christmas day, and then be warm again.

I’m rocking a Christmas mug. It’s one of the station’s collection in the break room.

Today is my Friday because I have to work Saturday for another Husker Postgame show. Ugh. Luckily, the regular season is nearly through. I want my weekends back.

I ran into a girl I went through Elementary school through High School with the other night. She told me that she was jealous of my weight loss and that she was glad I haven’t turned into a “skinny bitch.” She says usually when people get skinny they get mean, but I haven’t. That correlation surprised me, but I suppose it does happen. Glad it hasn’t to me! 🙂 I don’t think I could stand myself if it did.

I got my hair colored the other night. Just a bit darker (gotta cover up the grays that I’ve had since I was 16!) I love when it’s first colored. Makes me feel pretty.

I haven’t run since Saturday. My mojo has taken a big hit. I’m sure its partially due to the break up and partially because of the weather. I’m running tonight. Someone please hold me accountable!

Yesterday my oldest nephew turned 7! Oy. He’s so big! Tomorrow, my dad turns 61. Where has the time gone?

Today’s Note from the Universe really hit home this week:

You simply cannot know, Melissa, what will make others happy. But you can always know for yourself.

Go for it, The Universe

This week has been kind of rough. But I’m getting better. Time heals all wounds.

Hope you have a great Thursday Friends!

Let’s have a Water Date

  • Is that even a thing? I don’t like coffee and its fires-of-hades-hot outside. So we’re hydrating.
  • In the past 18 hours I have consumed copious amounts of watermelon. Like maybe half an entire watermelon. I’m not sorry. It was delicious. I got up about 5 times in the night due to the amazing amounts of watermelon I ate. Again. Not sorry.
  • I went grocery shopping at Trader Joe’s last night. One of my roomies said, as she was looking at my haul, that I buy ‘weird foods.’ If you consider plantain chips, cantaloupe, avocados, Brussel sprouts, broccoli and vegtable root chips weird then I guess I like weird food. Whatevs.
  • She also noted that I eat A LOT of fruit and veggies. Glad to know that she’s noticed.
  • I took a picture of myself this weekend in my swimsuit. (It’s a bikini) I’ve thought about posting it. We shall see. That takes a certain amount of confidence I’m not sure I have.
  • I have about 6 posts I want to write about swirling around in my head.
  • This was NOT one of them.
  • I will get to them soon.
  • My mom is having tests on Monday to see why her Hemoglobin was so low that it caused her to be hospitalized 2 weeks ago. Best case: its nothing or an ulcer. Worst case: a tumor or blood cancer. Prayers are appreciated.
  • This summer feels like its flying by. I hate that. I want time to go slowly during the summer.
  • That’s all I got.
  • Water date over. Must get back to work!
