“No two persons ever read the same book” -Edmund Wilson

In a text post, list ten books that have stayed with you in some way. Don’t take but a few minutes, and don’t think too hard — they don’t have to be the “right” or “great” works, just the ones that have touched you. Tag some friends and make sure you let your friends know you’ve tagged them.

Karla tagged me for this and I LOVE the idea! I’ve been a big reader my whole life. Here is my list:

  1. Jemima J- By Jane Green
  2. The Harry Potter Series -J.K. Rowling
  3. He Loves Lucy-Susan Donovan
  4. Fangirl -Rainbow Rowell
  5. Beautiful Ruins – Jess Walter
  6. Bitter is the New Black –  Jen Lancaster
  7. Born To Run Christopher McDougall
  8. Eleanor and Park – Rainbow Rowell
  9. The Bride Quartet By Nora Roberts
  10. Before I Fall – Lauren Oliver

These aren’t all of the ones, just the ones I could think of. Some good memories lie in each of those books!

I’m hoping on the Smile Train! Sharon tagged me! I don’t have any troubles smiling today; it’s Friday, it’s a gorgeous day, and I’m heading home to see my momma (and dad) this weekend!

Have a great day friends!

I’m tagging Brooke Becky David Holli Lindsay and Victoria

Scenes from my Saturday.

I hit the Lincoln Marathon Expo and picked up my bib and my friend Wesley’s (he’s driving in from Kansas City and stay with me tonight.) I proceeded to spend way too much at the Expo! The shirt on the left is the Official Shirt everyone got. Very patriotic here in Lincoln this year. Brooke suggested that I wear it for the Half she, Ginni, Holli, and I are doing in Brownville, Nebraska on the 4th of July! Good call, lady.

I saw the 2nd photo while driving home from the errands I ran after the expo this morning. David needs to get personalized plates like that for his car! Everyone should know it’s actually BOO’s car! 🙂

I went to Omaha last night for the Benson neighborhood’s first Friday open houses/gallery walks. My BFF, her husband, 2 other friends AND Ex Man Friend and I did dinner and hung out for awhile. (Yes, ex man friend and I are talking/friends. Or something. That relationship is very, very, very, very complicated.) I bought the shirt in the 3rd photo at a vintage store. I couldn’t pass it up–even though it’s a man’s shirt! 🙂

Got my bib for the Marathon! Easy number to remember! I’m pumped.

And the last pic…I always like what phrases they have on the pacer bracelets. I’m aiming for a sub 2:25 PR.

See ya after the race friends!

A few things…

trivialbob said: If she is at the other TV station why isn’t she your enemy!

Bob-She’s so awesome, I could never be enemies with her! We just don’t talk news a lot. We talk about work, but not the news. Make sense?

happyhealthycook said: That absolutely rocks! Your muscles look amazing!

Thanks Melissa! I’m pretty proud of them! 🙂

katiegirlchasesinfinity said: Holy moly woman! Your arms are smoking!! I’m so impressed!

Thanks Katie! It has been so hard to do these every day, but totally worth in the end!

davidsgoals said: wait, were there pictires of the ladies butts hanging out of their skirts? If so, I need to offer an impartial opinion on this.

Yes David, there were several butts hanging out in front of me! And it was when I was not able to pass (too tired, needed to walk). Next year, come Run Omaha with me and you get perhaps get a peek at all the tushies like I did. 🙂

fit-food-fam said: in for peek-a-boo butts lol. Great job! 😀

Lol! Right? Thank you!

rachaelfightsback said: I hate having to pay for parking at a race! Great job though! You looked awesome in the pics you posted.

Rachael, I agree! I just don’t think it’s fair to charge for the race AND parking. I think they should let you park wherever on race day. And thank you so much!! 🙂

victoriafindslife said: I was so excited when we entered the ball park thinking were done. I was instantly PISSED that we were not and we had to run around that damn thing! I did like all the extras at the aid stations and how ofthen the aid stations were. I liked the shade
Victoria, exactly! I ran into the ballpark and said aloud “are you freakin’ kidding me?! Jerks. Everyone around me laughed. I walked around the ballpark. I just didn’t have much left. All the extras were nice, and the shade was great! That sun was warm!

I just need a win!

As I lay in bed last night, trying to fall asleep, my mind was racing. Yesterday had been a crap day. And no David, it wasn’t because of a big date! 🙂

Without going into a lot of detail, I’ve been looking at other jobs and have had several interviews and a lot of ‘thanks, but no thanks.’ Last week I had another, the company is great, I’d love the job, the people who I’d get to work with, everything about it. They made it sound like they wanted me. But again, another ‘thanks but no thanks’ email. I was crushed. The pay was significantly more than I make now, and pretty great benefits. But I guess it wasn’t meant to be. However, the boss did ask if I would do some video editing for them on a contract basis, so that’s at least something.

I’ve been so stressed about it; my contract here at the TV station is up Sept. 15th, so they will want to talk negotiations soon. So that impacts my life and decisions.

You know when you want something so, so much and its there, dangling in front of you, but you just can’t quite reach it?

That’s how I feel. Jobs are out there, but I just can’t quite seem to get them. It’s frustrating.

Then, I got kicked while I was down.

I was telling my friend about the job and said that I’d feel better if one area of my life felt successful. My love life? That’s laughable. My family? My dad needs a better job and my mom has to have back surgery at the end of the month. My career? See above.

Then she dropped a bizarre bomb. She is the friend who knew the guy I went out with twice in May before I began the Summer of Melissa and ended my Match account. He was a good guy (or so I thought) but after 2 dates he ‘ghosted’ me. Totally disappeared. Whatever, I moved on. Hadn’t thought about him in a long time.

She told me that she saw him a few weeks ago and asked him what was the deal with he and I. His response?

He looked at her, and cryptically said, “She’s very tall.”

Um, what? I’m 5’9", yes, that IS tall for a woman when the average height for women is 5’4". But he was taller than me by at least an inch or so. And I rarely wear heels, and didn’t wear them on the date. Besides, my match profile said how tall I am!

Talk about kicking someone when they’re down. This is why I’m not dating right now…what a dumb reason to stop talking to someone and just disappear on them.

Anyway, thank you for the kind words. I really appreciate all of you! Things did look better in the morning, even if I couldn’t tear myself out of bed to run before work.

Happy Birthday David!!! Or as he likes to be called, King David! You’re one of the funniest, coolest, sauciest and most awesome guys I know. Hope you have a fantastic day!

This doctored photo is one of my favorites from the Chicago Marathon. The originial hangs on my bedroom wall, reminding me of a great vacation.

Edit: Notice how it appears The King is posing with his harem of ladies. Rough life! 😉

11 Questions-I was tagged by @Becky-Balances

1. Do you have a tattoo? If yes, post a pic. If no, what would you consider getting?

I do not have a tattoo. I’ve never wanted one. I don’t do pain and I’ve never found something that I would want on my body forever.

2. If you could see any band/artist in concert, who would you choose?

Justin Timberlake. I love love love him. I saw NSYNC in concert 3 times and Justin once, the last time he went on tour.

3. I’ve got two tickets to paradise. Where are we going?

Hawaii. Hands down. I was there in 2010 for 10 days and I never wanted to leave. It really is paradise. Blue skies, sandy beaches, crystal clear waters. It’s my definition of paradise. Let’s go!

4. What or who is your spirit animal?

Hmm. This one is hard. I’d say What would have to be a dog. I love them, all of them. Dogs are the best. Who-maybe my soulmate Bailee. She gets me. I like that about her.

5. What do you love most about your job?

I love that it is completely inappropriate at my workplace. I’m talking about we say and touch each other inappropriately and it’s fine. It’s always fine. I don’t know if I could work anywhere else. These people are my family. I also like that I can be very creative and nobody is constantly on my back about the news or content. I’m allowed to run my own show(s). For the most part!

6. Where is your happy place?

I have several: my parent’s pool. Just laying on my floatie, soaking up the sun, lazing away the afternoon. Or at Ft. Kearny State Rec area here in Nebraska. My family would go camping there every summer when I was a kid up through college. It has hundred year old cotton wood trees, gravel pit lakes and its calm, gorgeous and beautiful. I’m relaxing just thinking about it.

7. Book or movie?

Book. Hands down. I love reading. My library is enormous.

8. Time for some humblebragging…what’s your favorite personal accomplishment thus far?

That would have to be that I have successfully lost and kept off 150 pounds since October of 2011. It has been a hard journey but I am so happy and glad that I did. Totally worth it and the best thing I’ve ever done–even better than completing a Full marathon.

9. What are you looking forward to in the next month?

Well, in less than 24 hours I’m going to Fargo with Bailee, Brooke and Johnna. I’m pretty excited about that! Also, next week I start my new PT job at the Corky Canvas! I’m excited for that!

10. Do you have siblings?

I do, one older brother Chris. He’s 34.

11. What’s one of your favorite college memories?

It would have to be all the video projects that I made that starred my roommate. She was a good sport, and did things like jump off of dressers, just for the sake of my projects!

If you read this, consider yourself tagged. And since, I’m a little busy at work, I will just use the same questions!

I love you guys!

You all sure know how to make a girl feel good about herself! Thank you all so much!

You look great!

Love the outfit! See you in under 2 days!! 🙂

You are looking good!

….wow!

Not a sassy pant in sight!

If I wear white anything below the waist I will sit in ketchup. Guaranteed!

Thanks everyone! You are all so wonderful! And LOL Rich, no sassy pants at all! 😉 And Jen, I’m always so worried when I wear that skirt…but so far, so good! 🙂 And Brooke, I can’t wait! It’s almost here!!!!!!

In other news, I went for my final run before Fargo tonight. 85 degrees outside…no humidity, but I was sweating up a storm! You know how sometimes when you run, you feel like you don’t know how to run? Like your body just forgot how to do it? And you feel all out of sorts? Maybe that’s just me. But anyway, I felt that way tonight. Like my body wasn’t firing on all cylinders or something. But it always feels that way until about 2 miles in.  So it sucks when my run is only 2 miles long! By the end of the run I was good–At one point I was running an 8:35 pace! I was flying! I think its true about running and life; you have to keep going through the bad times to get to the good ones.  You WILL come out on the other side of it if you can persevere. Running lessons=life lessons.

On that note, I’m going to bed. Have a great night friends! Thanks again for being so wonderful!
