Rainy Days and Tuesdays

It’s a rainy, cold day here in the Heartland. I’m in a bit of a melancholy mood.

  • I was up at 4:45am to do my Strength training (3X2 Miles with .50 recovery and 1m warm-up and cool-down) on the treadmill this morning. Consequently I’m starving and exhausted. The struggle (and runger!) is real.
  • I’m worried about the Lincoln Half Marathon. I’m worried that I will disappoint myself with my time. I’m worried I will disappoint two-o-nine because she’s pacing me and I don’t want to fail her. I’m worried I won’t get my PR because today’s run (and last night’s too) really sucked. I feel like I haven’t hit my paces very well once I’m outside. I’m slow. I’m still up 5 pounds from my comfortable racing weight and I know it is causing a problem. I’m just worried that running is starting to lose its luster for me too.
  • Do you ever just think that singers just get you some times? Carly Rae Jepsen’s “I really like you” has a line that says “Oh, did I say too much?
I’m so in my head, When we’re out of touch”
you are speaking my language Carly! This is me, all the time.
  • It’s Spring Break on the UNL campus…our offices are so quiet right now without the students here. I kinda like it! The tree outside my office window is budding. Spring is here!
  • I’m going to Sioux Falls, South Dakota for a bridal shower/bachelorette party this weekend. It’s about 3.5 hours there and my friends and I are leaving Saturday morning and coming home Sunday. I have to get my runs in before and after this trip. I’m not excited about THAT, but the parties should be fun!

Have a good one friends!

There’s a first time for everything

Lincoln Half Marathon Training W12, D5 & D6 Easy 5 And Long 12. I switched tomorrows long run for today because I have my besties bridal shower and there is no time for 12 miles.

  • My run today was a mess: I had a haircut that I thought was at noon but was at 11am. My hair lady called in the middle of the first part of my run asking where I was. My dad came to pick me up and took me to the salon. Oy, get it together Melissa!
  • Then, this afternoon, I went back out for the rest of the run and the most random thing happened…I was running down a neighborhood street and watching a man on one side of the street fertilizing his lawn in the wind. (It looked like an exercise in futility to me.)
  • Then, this dude (he looked to be in his 40′s) across the street said, “Well look at you! You’ve got some nice tits!”
  • WHAT?!?!?! Seriously? Gross. I made a face at him and ran A LOT faster to get away. I heard him say something about how I have a “Nice Can.” Ewww. I don’t dress inappropriately when I run. The above picture is me today, after the run.
  • My life. I just can’t even.

Happy Weekend friends!!!

Lincoln half marathon training W12, D4 tempo 5. 10:42 goal AND actual pace.

Nailed it!

As we all know, my life is really random. Today, the Oscar Mayer weiner-mobile drove by our offices, and subsequently was parked on campus in front of the student union. I don’t even know why or what they were doing.

I met my friend for lunch and on my way back, stopped by my former professor’s office. Her first words to me were, “that is some long, sexy hair!” And, “why are you dressed like a college student?” I clearly need to make more of an effort with my clothes. The hair is on point though!

As I was driving to meet stilldavidsgoals I got a phone call from a friend asking me to do a quick voiceover for him. 3 lines, it would take about 5 minutes. I agreed and met him after coffee with David. He asked me what my going rate was. I told him it was whatever he was willing to pay me. He said he’d budgeted $100, would that be ok?

Um, YES! For less than 5 minutes of work? I’m in. It was easy, he told me he loved my voice and delivery and that I should look into creating a demo reel and putting online…except then he’d have to pay me more! Such a random day for me…but I guess most of them are?!

Have a great one, friends!

My roomie told me Monday she wants to run the Omaha Half Marathon with me in September. She asked me to find her a training plan, so I’m giving her my tried and true method that got me through my first 5 or 6 halfs…The Hal Higdon novice plan.

She said she had 26 weeks to train. I made a face and said she at most needed 18 weeks, and that 26 weeks might make her hate running. Especially training in Nebraska in the summer. The heat can be awful!

I’m so excited! It makes me so happy that she wants to share my love of running!

Good morning Lovelies!!

This sunrise greeted me from the parking garage this morning. It may not be the Northern Lights, but it’s still a pretty sight. In random Melissa things:

  • I had the strangest dream that I traveled back in time. In my dream it was 1995, except for some reason there were no computers or cell phones. I also kept telling people I had time traveled and computers were going to be a thing. That is an excellent way to go to the loony bin!
  • Question: If you run 10 miles on a Tuesday, but don’t blog about it, did it really happen? Asking for a friend.
  • I’m co-hosting a bridal shower for one of my besties this Sunday. The other bestie decided the theme is “English Tea” and she’s making tea and scones. I had to hand-address all the invites. I forgot that I put my number on them for the RSVP’s. Now I’m getting a bunch of random numbers calling or texting me. At first I was confused. Then I realized they just want to RSVP. Oh Melissa.
  • Froyo last night with lindsaydoeslife and victoriafindslife. It was nice to catch up with my friends. We missed you xfitlibrarian!!

Have a great Hump Day friends!

Birthday miles.

Lincoln Half Marathon training W12, D1 easy 5.

Dude, it was HOT today.
Fun fact: This is the earliest in the year it has ever hit 90° here in Lincoln. I was searching for shade along my route. I had to wear a tank top, it was that warm.

My roomie gave me running socks and another friend gave me the running shirts, water bottle, and Cadbury eggs. I LOVE those! Yum.

I had a great birthday! Thank you for all the notes, messages, texts, and comments! You all are wonderful and made my day!!

Lincoln Half Marathon training W11, D6. Long 10. I switched tomorrow’s long 10 and today’s easy 5 because it’s supposed to be crazy windy tomorrow and I just don’t need another failed long run.

My quads and hamstrings are so tight it’s not even funny. I just tortured myself with my foam roller. It made me scream, it hurt so bad. I’m glad no one else is home! Pain is gain, I suppose

I’m currently grilling Turkey burgers and then tonight some friends and I are going to a bar to see one of our favorite bands play for my birthday celebration! It’s a pretty perfect start to my birthday weekend!

Have a great Saturday guys!

I had a crap day. So I took it out on the pavement.

Lincoln half marathon training W11, D5 easy 5. Please note the appearance of my new shoes! They felt AMAZING!

I nearly got hit by a car and then about a mile and a half later some random dude whistled at me as I ran past him. So win-win?

Time for a quiet evening at home. It’s been a very long week.

Have a great night friends!

Sunshine, shades, and bare legs

It was warm enough for me to wear a skirt and NO TIGHTS today so I had to get outside over lunch and enjoy this weather…even if it just meant sitting on the front steps of our offices and soaking up the sunshine.

Because it’s Nebraska and it’s windy here, we are in a Red Flag warning this afternoon–high fire danger with 20-30 mph winds (that should make for a fun Tempo Run!).

Fun Fact: My birthday is on Monday!! I’m trying to decide what to do to celebrate. Is it sad that I’m at the point where I’d just like to do dinner with friends and then drinks somewhere? That sounds like a pretty great night to me! Anybody have any suggestions for low-key, fun things to do? I’m all ears.

Happy Friday Eve Cats!

Wednesday Weirdness

  • First of all, look at my gorgeous new shoes! My old pair of Brooks Ghost 7′s had over 550 miles on them and I could feel it. So I hit up the Lincoln Running Company (my locally-owned store) for these beauties! They were on sale and I had a gift card. $87 later, they were mine. I was in and out in less than 5 minutes. Total win in my book.
  • Are you wondering why I’m wearing my winter coat when it’s 70+ degrees here? (That’s about 21 Degrees Celsius). Well, as usual, there’s a story behind that!
  • I took my shoes on a little jaunt around the block, but, as I was only about 3 houses away from my house, a man’s voice called out to me and said, “Excuse me, but do you own a red pea coat?” I stopped walking and told him that I did, and asked why he wanted to know. The man and his wife walked up to me and said that they see me in the mornings and evenings out by my car, wearing that red coat and they think that I “look stunning in it.” I blushed and told them thank you. They went on to say that with my long dark hair and pale skin, it’s a really striking combination with the bright red of the coat. Ok. Now this conversation got weird. I mean, are they going to kidnap me and keep me in their basement now or something? Also, thanks for pointing out how pale I am!!
  • While this weird conversation about my coat was happening this woman came up to us. She’s running for school board and wanted to put her signs in our yards. I told her it was fine after I googled her and realized I supported her. As we were walking and talking I found out she works for an organization that gives money to educational non-profits.
  • WHAT A COINCIDENCE!!! I WORK FOR ONE OF THOSE!! I told her I’d be calling her about sponsorship for our conference this fall! Random networking on a Wednesday night!
  • Today was a rest day. Tempo miles tomorrow. I’m already tired thinking about it.

Have a great one, friends!
