I’m a Klutz

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve developed into a bit of a klutz. I’m not really sure how it has happened, but it has.

I find bruises all over my arms and legs, remnants of injuries that I’ve gotten when I’ve run into coffee tables, bed posts, doors, walls, etc. I had a nasty bruise and cut on my leg for nearly a month from slamming my shin into a coffee table. I find bruises I have no explanation for. It’s maddening.

So far this week I have:

  • slammed my elbow into my bedroom door in the middle of the night Tuesday as I was getting up to use the restroom.
  • I burned myself on the neck with my curling iron Wednesday morning. On the plus side, my hair looked fantastic! 😉
  • The wind caught the lid to the garbage can as I was wheeling it to the curb Thursday night. It smacked me in the forehead and left a bright red welt.
  • I stabbed myself in the forearm with a box cutter while opening wine boxes at Corky last night.

And that’s just this week! There are bruises on my upper thigh that I have no clue where they came from. I am beginning to worry about my safety!

In other news, I had to cut my run short this morning. My outer right leg still hurts from that injury a few weeks ago. I don’t think its an IT Band issue because my knee feels fine. It’s about halfway between my knee and hip and it just hurts. I foam roll and it feels better. But it also makes me feel like I need to baby it and walk with a limp. Any ideas as to what I’ve done? Is it IT band issues? HELP!!

Happy Saturday friends!

And today…she rested.

Let me interrupt your regularly scheduled training for an injury! Like I said yesterday, I believe a combination of Saturday’s Warrior Dash, my 10 mile bike ride with LOTS of hills on Sunday, and my 2 mile run (it was supposed to be 3 miles) on Tuesday, I have tweaked a muscle in my thigh. I don’t think its a big deal. My mother the RN doesn’t seem to think its more than a strain. So that’s a blessing. But the fact that it hurts (kind of a cramping-type feeling) when I stand up or sit down using that leg, or hurts when I go up stairs and during runs leads me to believe I should take a few days to let it heal. As much as it pains me.

I’m not good at resting. In fact, I kind of suck at it. I think its because its so much harder for me to start back up again, than to just keep going, ya know? But its ok. Because I planned for this. I’m going to Colorado this weekend for a friend’s wedding, and staying a couple of extra days and I knew I wouldn’t be able to fit all of my runs in while I was gone, so I added some cushion time into my Chicago Marathon Training schedule. So I’m good. I’ve got this.

Will someone please remind me of this when I’m freaking out?! 🙂

If the leg feels better, you know I’m going to try and fit a run in tomorrow before I leave tomorrow night! 🙂

Have a great day friends! 🙂

Will I never learn?

So after the Warrior Dash on Saturday I felt a little sore and had a plethora of bruises, but I knew that was to be expected. I liked it. I generally haven’t felt sore in awhile, so it was a good feeling. My Sunday schedule called for me to crosstrain so I strapped on my helmet and headed out on my bike for some miles.

I came home with legs that were even more sore and tired, but in a good way. Monday was a rest day and boy did I need it.

Today, my schedule called for 3 miles. I managed to eke out 2 before I decided my left quad was killing me. Now, a good 6 hours after that run, its still killing me. But now it feels like its trying to cramp up every time I stand up or sit down.

Pretty sure that climbing walls and whatnot during the Warrior Dash compounded with the 10 mile long bike ride, added to the 2 mile run may not have been the best thing I’ve ever done.

Whoops! I hope this heals quickly! Because I’m supposed to run 4 miles tomorrow and 3 on Thursday!

I need to write a Warrior Dash recap-its coming!

Have a great day friends!
