Monday Things

I think it is time for a bit of a life catch-up. Let’s chat:

  • I went to the ENT on Friday about my teeth/sinus issue. I also saw the audiologist. I have “above-average” hearing, and no problems there. But I have some sinus issues that she prescribed antibiotics, prednisone, and Flonase for. I go back in 6 weeks to see if that regime has helped. Fingers crossed.
  • I’m getting an older crown replaced on Thursday. I am hoping that this will solve my issues there.
  • I was out running this afternoon and I got honked at a couple of times by some jerk driving by. He stared and winked at me as well. No thanks dude.
  • My boyfriend and I work concessions at the Husker football game this past Saturday (We’re undefeated, baby!!) and we met Larry the Cable Guy!

He’s so nice!! He’s from Southeast Nebraska and is a huge Husker fan.

Life is pretty good here, I hope things are good for you guys!

This has been A WEEK and it’s only Tuesday. Ugh

  • Monday started with a rude man calling me an “F’er” multiple times over the phone at work when I tried to help send his call in the right direction. I told him to quit swearing at me and I would help him. He called me the F word several more times and then hung up on me. So that’s fun.
  • This morning I managed to scrape and dent my rear passenger door on my car when I was parking in the garage. (I scraped into a pillar. Le sigh.) So I need to get that fixed eventually,.
  • I had to get another root canal and crown. My share of this will total about $500. **Waves goodbye to all my money**
  • I’ve been going to the gym very faithfully since the beginning of July. I’m down 7 pounds and am lifting weights too. (Go team!) So I was happy with what I saw in the mirror this morning. So you get to see it too.
  • So you can just imagine how UNHAPPY I was when I saw the girl who helped me lose my job last October at MY GYM! Just who I didn’t want to see. UGH. So far, I just do my thing and completely ignore her. Rage running is a thing for a reason.
  • Today I ran at home, it was a cardio only day and my roomies are in Mexico so I killed some miles on my ‘mill, with the music blaring. Felt good to do that alone (it’s hot and humid here again and running outside makes my heart valve issue flare up.)
  • I’m watching the roomie’s dog, and I’m currently letting him play with my bf’s dogs. Their dog is a bit of a douchebag…he has no social skills, so our dogs get a little tired of him.
  • My mouth hurts, I wish someone would give me like $5k, and I wish that dinner would make itself tonight.

TL;DR this week sucks, I need more money, and I have hillbilly teeth. But I’m down 7 pounds since July 15th!!!

Because a 21 mile bike ride on a Tuesday night would just be silly, right??😜

The bf and I went for a nice long ride last night. I was starving by the time we got done! This month we’ve already done nearly 60 miles on the bikes, and many more in our kayaks. We bought those last month and love them!! I’m still running, AND I’ve joined a gym that’s 1 minute from my house. So that’s pretty convenient. Running is happening…just not as much. And I’m OK with that. Running isn’t the only form of Cardio to be done. I know this now.

Have a great day, cats!

Oh hi friends!

I’m still here. Living life. @flaquitalaurita commented that I hadn’t done a full life update in a long time. And while I don’t have time for that today, I do want you to know that I’m here, I’m doing well, and a longer update is coming.

Summer has descended on the heartland, bringing sunshine, 97 degrees, and humidity. But that’s just fine with me. I love this weather! I’m living my life outdoors this year…biking a lot, running, kayaking, and just enjoying being outside. It’s pretty great.

Right now I’ve got to head off to Omaha for dinner with my bestie for her birthday. But that update is coming soon, I promise! Thanks for sticking around!

Hump Day Happenings

  • 22 days post Plantar-Wart Removal I FINALLY was able to run without much pain! Hooray! We SO EXCITED!
  • I had my Biometric Screening for my health insurance yesterday. I was in the “desirable” category on everything except for my BMI. I was 1 point above where I should be. So that’s irritating. I have a baseline for where I need to go. Now I just need to get there. I have plans. It will happen. Just watch.
  • I kinda want to make a “Summer To-Do List”. There are a lot of things that I say I want to do each summer and I don’t get to get to them. Some of them are trips, some are just simple things like read more “Beachy reads” books. Things like that. Stay tuned.
  • It is watermelon season. My heart (and tummy!) are so happy!!
  • I went to see the Endodontist about my tooth. He thinks I need a filling replaced. I am praying that fixes my problem. I can’t take the pain any longer.

Have a good one friends!

Today on Snapchat

I just discovered the fun filters. You should be glad you don’t have to see me as a unicorn puking a rainbow. This one is my favorite.

In other news…

  • My foot is STILL healing. I’m the most impatient person in the world so not being able to run/walk well is KILLING me. GRR.
  • The Firefighter snapped me upon seeing these photos and told me that my face looks thin and that I need to eat more. Ummm, no. I’m eating just fine thankyouverymuch. I told him it was smoke and mirrors. 🙂
  • I did something for my mental health this week: I’ve had a follower who is someone I’ve deemed a “toxic follower”. She would only comment to say mean things, judge my life, and tell me what to do. So I blocked her. I didn’t want to, and felt bad, but then I realized that this should be a safe space where I can express myself without feeling judged. And she turned it into a place where I felt like I needed to filter myself, my thoughts, and not be fully honest with you guys. That ends NOW. I shouldn’t feel bad for getting rid of someone who is not nice and can’t say nice things to people she’s never even met!! I feel good about my choice.
  • Today my parents have been married for 41 years. Congrats mom and dad!! Quite the achievement this day and age!

It’s hump day. The downhill slide. Game on.

What a difference about 9 hours makes

My super awesome umbrella makes rainy mornings ok. Because I’ve always got blue skies when I use it! Fast forward 9 hours to after work and it’s like I’ve taken the umbrella and willed it into happening in real life. What a gorgeous day this turned out to be! I love it.

Your random Melissa thoughts for the day:

  • 8 days post-plantar wart removal and I’m still in massive pain. This sucker was big and there is a large chunk of my foot missing. If I could just not wear shoes that would help. Every kind of shoe bothers my feet–flip flops are bugging my calf muscles now-the strain of holding the shoe on AND it just doesn’t sit right. Running shoes are too supportive and press against the wound constantly and any other shoe does the same. (I have tried all of my shoes. And I have A LOT, trust me.)
  • Due to this, I can’t run and I’ve tried starting the BBG workouts and nope, just nope. Not yet. I have got to let my foot heal before I do lower body stuff. I am currently working on my upper body and eating well.
  • I’ve met women named Joyful, Pepper, and Cinnamon. These names are interesting and in some cases, remind me of things would might name dogs or horses. Why do people do this to their children??
  • My friend texted me today and asked if I would be her training buddy for the Good Life Halfsy (Lincoln’s other half marathon, held in November). I am not running it, but said I’d do some runs with her. She wants me to run it with her. I doubt that I will.
  • I can’t stop listening to “Can’t Stop The Feeling”. This song is so good. We had an impromptu dance party in the kitchen last night to the song. It was great.
  • My basement flooded AGAIN. My house is a disaster. I just can’t even right now.
  • The father of the teenage boy who mows my lawn drew a line in the sand this week, if you will. We don’t want the lawn mowed each week-it gets expensive paying $30/week! But with all the rain, it has been growing and is getting long. The father told me that if we didn’t want it mowed each week we should find someone else to do it. It required too much effort otherwise. I feel like I’m stuck because I don’t have a mower, but it’s getting expensive! Sigh. My roomie says she and her bf (our other roomie) are going to buy a mower. I’ll believe it when I see it.

Hope you’re having a good hump day friends!

Long time, no “Real” talk. So let’s catch up, shall we?

  • After a rainy and chilly Lincoln Half Marathon on Sunday the weather has turned completely around. 70’s, blue skies, puffy clouds. I can handle this. This is what May is supposed to be like.
  • I went to the doctor Tuesday to have a giant plantar wart removed from my foot. It never bothered my running, but it bothers me when my feet are bare or in sandals. So I knew that it was time to get it taken care of (again). I have a large crater in the bottom of my foot. It makes walking difficult and hurts SO MUCH!
  • The Doctor bandaged it with a Band-Aid that has since been replaced with a lovely bandage as I keep bleeding. So that’s gross.
  • I can’t workout or run for likely a week, which makes me feel pretty gross, but I just need to remember to make good food choices!
  • The article that my co-worker wrote on me a few weeks ago was published yesterday. I have gotten so many nice emails about it, and telling me how awesome it is that I lost the weight. It was really humbling.
  • During the Half on Sunday I thought to myself that I was insane for doing that without training. My body hurt and everything was sore. I realized that you have to forget the pain of the last marathon before you are willing to do another. Because at that moment, during mile 9 when I thought I would NEVER get done, I NEVER wanted to do another race again. But then…today? I think I need to do more! 🙂 I’m nuts, I know.
  • As soon as it doesn’t hurt to walk I’m going to start the BBG workouts with ya’ll. Should be fun to do something else and intense like that. I’m kinda excited.
  • I LOVE the month of May. It might be my favorite month; I think I love the promise of what’s to come. How we’re on the edge of summer, but it’s not quite here yet. There’s so many things waiting to happen. And I really like that.
  • Things are good in my world, life is good. Hope they are with you all too! I’ll try to be better at writing…I miss this catharsis.

Have a good one friends!

Life Update

I haven’t been posting here that much. It kind of happened out of the fact that I don’t like to write posts on my phone or ipad and would rather write on my computer. But I can’t use my work computer to get onto Tumblr–the state would freak out! So my posts are fewer than usual.

But I’m here to promise that will change. Training for the Lincoln Half Marathon will start next Monday so I’ll start running 5 days a week and complaining about it! 😉

Weekend things:

  • I got my hair did. My hair lady wanted to try something fun. This happened. It was fun, but I could never recreate it!
  • It snowed here. It is supposed to snow another 2-4 inches tomorrow. Blech. I’m over this whole winter thing! I want spring please. Thanks!
  • I saw that sign at Wal-Mart. I snapchatted it to my ex. We both LOL’d. Despite the break up and his stupidity I am glad that I met him.
  • That last photo is my oldest nephew. He’s 9 and with that hairdo he looks about 14. I just can’t even.

I said in my response to Anon about my lack of posting that life has been weird. That is for another post entirely. Suffice it to say that I really hate dating sometimes. This is not a pity party but I honestly don’t understand some men. Like, you’re 32. Grow up and get your life together. I’m tired of lame excuses and immature guys.  Maybe I will just never find “him.”

I’ve been doing a bit of running here and there…that will dramatically increase next week. I’ve also been doing the 30 day shred most days-if not a bit sporadically! 🙂

I had today off since it is a state holiday! I get 10 more this year!! (President’s days and Arbor Day are the next ones we get!) I’ve slept in, did a little grocery shopping at Sam’s and have been doing some laundry. A solid day of adulting.

I’ve missed you friends. I promise I’ll do better! 🙂

Wednesday afternoon Energy drink date. (What? It’s a thing! Or not. Whatever)

-Have you tried the It Works! Energy drinks? They are delightful. They taste like pear. Very long story short, when I went to New York in August for that wedding with my ex-boy-friend I met a friend of his who is very high up in the It Works! Company. We tried those energy drinks and I LOVED them. Delicious.

-I went to help with a video announcement for my church last night. I was supposed to be the videographer, that’s why I ran before I went there. Of course, they asked me to help be the talent so I put my stocking cap on and made it work. It’s supposed to be Christmasy anyway, so we’ll go with it!

-Perks of working for State Government: When the President gives federal employees another holiday off, we get it too! The Prez signed an order giving us a half day of holiday pay on Christmas Eve so I’m done at 11:30am (since I come in at 7:30!). As I have no vacation time I am super excited about this! See also: I’m excited about having MLK Day, President’s Day, Arbor Day, Columbus Day, and Veteran’s Day off next year!! #blessed

-A friend texted me last week out of the blue asking me to babysit his kids tomorrow night while he and his wife go see “Star Wars” for his birthday. At 9:30pm. On a weeknight. I agreed because I’m too nice, but I’m currently regretting saying yes because WHAT WAS I THINKING?!?! That’s so late! I go to bed at 9 during the week. I love sleep. Sleep is my favorite. Past Melissa is dumb for saying yes.

-Did I mention that I LOVE my new job? I get to do new things each day, but they are the same kinds of things. Kind of like when I was at the TV Station. I get to write again. I’m meeting tons of new people…including a cute boy or two! 😉 And I LOVE LOVE LOVE my co-workers. My boss is awesome and I get to flex my time. If I only take 30 minutes for lunch then I can leave 30 minutes early. I’m a fan!

-I have a bit of Christmas shopping left to do. I buy presents for my mom from dad and I need to finish that up. I also need to get a few other things but then I’m done! I’m hoping to get that finished tonight or tomorrow.

Guys. It’s almost Friday Eve. We’re so close! Have a good one!
