Friday Five!

  1. That speaking engagement yesterday? It was a job fair…which I don’t hire people and I’m not in the News Biz any longer so I wondered why I was there…she wanted me there to review resumes! I ended up being the most popular person! The line at my table was about 7 people deep most of the time. Also, how fun is that? My bio and pic are in a program!
  2. While I was walking to my car after the event last night, I nearly got hit by a car! Some college student was texting and driving and turned right while I was in the crosswalk. I had the “walk” signal! He saw me after the near hit and gave me a grimace and wave. Dude. Put the phone down.
  3. I found a function on my phone camera this morning that uses voice commands to take pictures–hands free! So I just have to say “Cheese, shoot, or capture” and it will take pictures. That is one of my attempts this morning. I’m a dork. It’s fine.
  4. The Lincoln Marathon dreams have started–right on schedule. This morning I was dreaming that I couldn’t wake up to go run the race, and there was this guy in my room in my dream who was trying to get me awake so that I would get to the race on time. I have no idea who this man was, but in the dream I was cool with him being in my room.
  5. ONE MORE WEEK until two-o-nine and runningfortheriesling arrive in Lincoln! I cannot wait for the shenanigans to start!

HAPPY FRIDAY!

It’s my Friday!

  • I’m having a really good hair day. Also I’m wearing green pants. And I have a 3 day weekend. It’s a good day! <insert praise hands emoji here>
  • We had a good thunderstorm last night. There’s just something so soothing about those. I woke up discovered the tree in my front yard has bloomed. Yay spring!
  • The world is small, but Lincoln is smaller. Case in point: during my commute this morning I was stopped at a red light in downtown Lincoln, just minding my own business when a I heard a horn honk. I thought they wanted me to go, but the light was still red. Instead, I looked over and in the car next to me was lindsaydoeslife! She was on her way to work as well! In the 9 months I’ve been at this job I’ve never seen her during my commute. Good stuff. Oh yeah, Linds, your left taillight is out! 🙂
  • My massage last night was fantastic. My legs feel great today! I have 6 Tempo miles tonight to test them out.
  • I’m making Lincoln Half Marathon plans with runningfortheriesling today. I get to finally meet Sam and see two-o-nine and funhappylife2 and meet her hubby lifekicksback NEXT MONTH!! I’m a happy girl!!
  • I’m also heading to Phoenix for a work conference in the middle of May so this-incredible-journey and I are making plans to finally meet too!
  • And I get to have lunch with a-yogi-who-wods next week as he makes his way back across the country??!? So many Tumblr Meetups are ahead of me!!

I should really settle down and try to get some work done on this fake Friday of mine! Have a great one friends!!

Lincoln Half Marathon W7, D2. 8X600 AKA: Speed Work Baby!

I’m tired and everything hurts.

Ok, so maybe that’s an exaggeration. But I am tired and sore. My legs are fatigued after running 34 miles in the past 6 days.

This morning I miscalculated my mileage and thought I had to run a total of 9 miles, instead of the 7 miles I actually had to run. So I was pleasantly surprised to be done with my run by 6am. I had gotten up and on the treadmill by 4:30am, hence the exhaustion.

Tomorrow is a rest day. My poor, tired legs need it. two-o-nine told me to get Tart Cherry juice to help with the tired legs. I know she and runningforbiscuits swear by the stuff. So I hit Trader Joe’s after work for that and other groceries, including tonight’s dinner (and lunch tomorrow!) sushi!! I’ve been craving that stuff for a few days now. And after walking by the flowers I decided I needed some to brighten up my house. No Valentine?? No problem!! I’ll give myself flowers, thankyouverymuch!

I’m spending a quiet night with Jess, Nick, Schmidt, Mindy and Danny tonight! (New Girl and The Mindy Project!!)

Happy Tuesday Friends!

Lincoln half marathon W6 D6 & D7

Easy 5 & Easy 9. Target pace 12:05-12:55, actual 11:49 & 12:26.

A perfect weather weekend. Mid 50s and sunny. It’s amazing how running outside is so much better than running on the treadmill. I’m a big fan of all this snow melting away.

My legs were tired when I started running today, but when I hit 5 miles it felt like I had just started running. I like those kinds of runs.

When I was about 2.5 miles in to my run today a couple of guys whistled at me as they drove by. I waved and kept running. Thanks for noticing dudes.

Happy Sunday evening friends!

Tuesday Things

  • First Speed work of my Hanson’s plan tonight. 12X400 which works out to 8 miles with a 1 mile warm up and cool down. That’s a lot of miles on a Tuesday.
  • I have a massage scheduled after work today. I’m pretty excited about it. My hamstrings, glutes, lower and upper back are on the menu. My masseuse is a sports masseuse and has seriously strong hands. I can’t wait.
  • Mileage seriously jumps this week. From 28 miles to 37. It’s week 6 guys. Week 6. The Lincoln Half Marathon is May 3rd. We are less than 3 months out. Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming.
  • The Runger I’m experiencing is REAL guys. I can’t seem to satiate this beast inside me. The more I run the more I want to eat. But I don’t eat too much or eat junk so I suppose that’s a win?
  • I’m on the hunt for new books to read. Any great recommendations? I like fiction, memoirs and most recent pop culture works.
  • I think New Guy (and his inappropriate friend!) are out of the picture. I haven’t heard from either one of them since the thigh incident. Whew!

Have a good one friends!

Lincoln Half Marathon

Registration is still open as of 9:30am cst. They expect it to sell out around 11am.

That would be a new record of only 8 hours! So if you’re on the fence and are thinking about coming…now’s your chance!
So far I know the following people are registered:
two-o-nine
runningfortheriesling
funhappylife2
xfitlibrarian
Me
And lindsaydoeslife is spectating.

Did I miss anyone?

Come join us! You’ve got time!!

A few of the pictures that were captured of me during the Lincoln Half Marathon this past Sunday. My time was 2:33:53. Since it was a wave start I didn’t cross the start line for about 45 minutes.

I’m not too thrilled by most of them. They didn’t get any of me along the route. Not sure if they had anyone there.

The second picture is with this guy named “Whitey”. We were waiting to take our pictures with the sign and he said we were going to take them together. I said, “Okay.” He’s a Guardsman from Washington State. So random.

That’s the 2nd time I’ve made a random friend on a Half Marathon course. I’m just a friendly girl! 😉

Lincoln Half Marathon Recap

First things first, the medal this year? So great! Much cooler than the past 3 years. It has the State Capitol building on it. The past 2 have looked like a penny (Abe Lincoln). Not as impressive. I’m pleased.

2nd of all, can we talk about men’s running shorts for a second? There were A LOT of short-shorts happening. This dude (the blue shorts without shoes on) had slits up the side of his. The breeze caused them to flap. I was staring, entranced as to whether I would get a free show! (no dice on that one. But a girl can dream, right?) When did guys running shorts get so short? I kept getting distracted along the route by them. I suppose its better than running skirts (right trivialbob?)

But I digress.

Let’s do this, bullet point style:

  • Gorgeous day, 50’s, sunny, and a bit of a breeze. Perfect running weather.
  • My goal was sub 2:25. I started with the 2:20 pacer and they passed me at the 4 mile point. I didn’t get passed by the 2:25 pacer until 8.5 miles. The 2:30 never passed me. So how did I finish with a time of 2:33:53? The world may never know.
  • Lincoln is hilly. Nebraska is not a flat wasteland as some might think. Lots of hills and rises along the route. An elevation gain of 223 feet.
  • I got good luck texts (at 6:30am!) from becky-balances and later from xfitlibrarian and two-o-nine and other IRL friends. My friends Freakin’ rock! That made my day.
  • I’m currently seeing someone (we’ve had 3 dates) and guess what? He WAS THERE TO SUPPORT ME! At mile 9.5, when I needed it the most. I didn’t think he’d be there–it’s only been 3 dates and a month since we’ve been seeing each other, but he surprised me. Big time. Major points for that guy!
  • Ex Man Friend was there too…except he overslept and he and his friends went to a bar a block off the marathon route. So I didn’t see him or he me (they were there for another friend who was running the full.)
  • My awesome parents came out and made 2 signs “May the Course be with you!” And, “Slow down, I’m trying to count everyone!” So, so great. I needed to see them.
  • Mom and dad at mile 3, my dear friend Tracey at mile 4, lindsaydoeslife at mile 7.5ish, New Guy at mile 9.5 and my friend Kristen at mile 11. It helped so much. Support matters.
  • I didn’t follow through with a lot of weekday training for this race. Whoops. It matters. I have 6 weeks until I go to Canada for the Manitoba Half with Brooke. You better believe I’m kicking my own butt these next few weeks. I’m thirsty for a new PR and Brooke says its flat and fast. I’m banking on it.
  • I’m sore today, but not overly so. I’m planning on a few miles tomorrow morning. Active Recovery…or something like that.
  • Tacos tonight with the New Guy. Should be fun.

Happy Cinco De Mayo Friends!

Not every race is a PR. And that’s ok. Because 2:33:53 is still a darn good time.

The 2014 Lincoln Half Marathon is in the books. My friend Wesley and I are pleased.

I’m sore, tired and need a nap. There are so many things I want to tell you guys about this race. People who came out to support me, messages from dear friends, the signs, so much to say.

But for now, I’m going to take the world’s best shower and relax.

Scenes from my Saturday.

I hit the Lincoln Marathon Expo and picked up my bib and my friend Wesley’s (he’s driving in from Kansas City and stay with me tonight.) I proceeded to spend way too much at the Expo! The shirt on the left is the Official Shirt everyone got. Very patriotic here in Lincoln this year. Brooke suggested that I wear it for the Half she, Ginni, Holli, and I are doing in Brownville, Nebraska on the 4th of July! Good call, lady.

I saw the 2nd photo while driving home from the errands I ran after the expo this morning. David needs to get personalized plates like that for his car! Everyone should know it’s actually BOO’s car! 🙂

I went to Omaha last night for the Benson neighborhood’s first Friday open houses/gallery walks. My BFF, her husband, 2 other friends AND Ex Man Friend and I did dinner and hung out for awhile. (Yes, ex man friend and I are talking/friends. Or something. That relationship is very, very, very, very complicated.) I bought the shirt in the 3rd photo at a vintage store. I couldn’t pass it up–even though it’s a man’s shirt! 🙂

Got my bib for the Marathon! Easy number to remember! I’m pumped.

And the last pic…I always like what phrases they have on the pacer bracelets. I’m aiming for a sub 2:25 PR.

See ya after the race friends!
