The Monday Struggle

  • Heat indices of 110 degrees mean I have little-to-no appetite. This dress was looser this morning…the scale was down a bit too. Win-win.
  • I am planning on moving bedrooms at my house into the Master bedroom right across the hall. I was debating if I wanted to because I thought it was hotter than my room. Turns out my previous roomie had LEFT THE WINDOW OPEN 6 INCHES when she moved out! I just got the electric bill. It didn’t do too much damage (yet). Ai yi yi.
  • My bf came over with his dog yesterday afternoon and evening. He set up my dryer for me (we had to buy a power cord for it) and while he was out he bought rope for the clothes line! Now we can dry clothes on the line. It’s embarrassing how excited I am about this.
  • I go on vacation next week. I’m finding it really hard to be productive this week.
  • I’m considering running the Omaha Marathon’s 10k race. 6.2 miles sounds like more fun than 13.1. AND the bf wants to run it with me!

Have a great week friends!

Oh hi friends!

  • Conversations with two-o-nine this morning. Clearly it has taken me awhile to get work things done so I can churn out a post. Sorry about that. I have been MIA…life gets busy and then somethings gives. I appreciate good friends like Brooke who remind me that ya’ll still care! 🙂
  • This little joke was really popular this weekend. It had hundreds of reblogs and gained me a few new followers. Welcome friends! I’m Melissa. I write about running, the dumb things I do on a daily basis, and my life. It’s all here. Welcome aboard!
  • My 4 day weekend was pretty great; I hit the outlets and snagged that snazzy little number I’m wearing for $9 at Banana Republic (regularly $50!) Fun fact: I love stripes. Even horizontal ones (which I NEVER would have worn before I lost the weight!)
  • And then I went to the motherland: Kate Spade. With a 60% off and another 20% off I got my beautiful new lover there for $104 (regularly $325!) She’s just so pretty!
  • I got my hair cut Thursday night. She cut 3 inches off, and in a case of #tallgirlproblems I had to stand up so that she could cut my hair. I’m too tall, she’s too short, and my hair was too long. She pumped the chair up as high as it could go, but it just wouldn’t work. Le Sigh. It feels so much healthier though. I’m a fan.
  • Wednesday night my boyfriend and I made our relationship Facebook official. It’s not something that I usually do, but he was the one who initiated it and I didn’t mind. Well, people on both sides FREAKED OUT. It had a bunch of likes and comments and then we both got text messages and phone calls wanting info! I didn’t know people cared THAT much about my love life!
  • OH YEAH, YOU GUYS. He also scored some MAJOR points this past weekend; he was at a bachelor party Thursday night when he texted me and said this: “No joke, you’re the best thing that’s happened to me.” My cold, dead heart melted. A lot. <<Insert Heart Eyes Emoji Here>> I told him I felt the same way.
  • We plan to go running together after work tonight, barring any thunderstorms. I’m kind of excited.

Are you still reading this? Then High Fives for you!
Have a great week friends!

It’s my Friday!!!

Despite going to the Dentist this morning for a couple of fillings that turned into 3 fillings, including one replacement filling…I’m in a good mood! Especially now that the numbness has worn off! Also, I’m wearing my Sassy Pants!

  • I ran a mile after work. It was rough. It wasn’t too hot, but there is some haze here due to fires in Washington State or something like that.
  • I had a Come-to-Jesus conversation with my mom about my lack of running and lack of wanting to run. She suspects that Hanson’s burnt me out on it, and that I should listen to my body and run when I want to–not because I have to. That way I won’t kill my love of running and not quit running at the same time. That mother of mine. She’s a smart lady! 🙂
  • Speaking of Come-To-Jesus conversations, my bf thinks I have my cell phone permanently attached to my hand and it frustrates him to no end when I’m on it when we’re together. I get how irritating that is, and so I’m making an effort. Last night when we went out to dinner we both left our phones at his house. It was really nice. He wants to have technology-free dates. I kinda agree. I do think we need to be available for emergencies…but not just a random text. I’m growing here, people!! Progress!
  •  Also, I have a haircut tomorrow evening. I haven’t had it cut for about 3 months or so. It’s getting long!!
  • Also pictured are a few moments from Disney World and Universal: a selfie with Mickey, Cinderella’s Castle, Hogwarts and Butterbeer! I had a such a good time!! Vacations are the best!

Have a great rest of the day friends!

I’m Baaaccckkk!!!

  • Work Mirror selfies are back!! You’re welcome??
  • Orlando was awesome. 10/10 would do it again. I hadn’t been to Disney World in nearly 20 years (crap, I’m old!!) and it was such a good time going as an adult. However, geez, things are expensive! Universal was cool too. Harry Potter World was awesome!
  • Before we came home, my friend and I hit the outlet mall. I got that skirt from Banana for $8 and another black top (not pictured) for $8.50. Deals and Steals, friends. Deals and steals.
  • I feel disgusting. Too much of the foods that I normally NEVER let myself eat combined with raging hormones equals me up a couple of pounds (mostly water weight) and hating how I look in the mirror. Le Sigh. The mind is funny.
  • I only ran once while on vacation. But I did manage to hit my step goal nearly every day so I’ll consider that a win.
  • My boyfriend says he wants to start running with me. I’m really excited to share this with him and to do something active together. Win-Win. 🙂 I am concerned that he will be much faster than me (he’s an army recruiter and used to run 5:30 min/miles) but he had back surgery last year and hasn’t run for awhile, so I think that will give me a bit of an edge! 😉
  • I only have to work today and tomorrow then we have 4 day weekend FTW! My boss is fantastic! I’m pretty excited, especially since I could not sleep last night and saw 3 am (which felt like 4am to me!) And then I was up by 6:40–which turned into 7:30. So does that mean I got a nap last night instead of real sleep? The struggle. It’s real.

Happy Tuesday friends!

Things And Such

First of all, thank you for all the lovely comments yesterday. I adore you all. 🙂

Other randomness in my life:

  • The conference I’m going to in Orlando is having an “All White Party” (we’re supposed to wear all white) I feel like its a little awkward to have a party like that?! But my friends had a going away party with the same theme a few weeks ago. This outfit may be repeated. I feel like I look pretty sassy.
  • The sunsets in Nebraska this time of year are pure GOLD. I’m a real big fan. The sky is on fire.
  • I put my business card in the fishbowl at a local Mexican eatery. I won lunch for two. I knew those business cards were good for something! I love their chips and guac. You know what I’m getting for lunch!
  • I met one of my older brother’s co-workers the other day. He knew I had worked at the TV Station and said that he felt like meeting me was like meeting a celebrity! It kinda made me miss the news…but then not at all.
  • My boss told us yesterday that not only will we take Friday July 3rd off for the Independence day holiday, but we will also take Thursday July 2nd off as well! She thinks we need a break before things really ramp up this summer with projects and our conference planning. I have the best boss!!
  • There’s a chance one of us could go to Rotterdam (The Netherlands) or Istanbul for work next summer. Best job ever or best job ever??

Happy Tuesday friends!

Holy Humidity Batman!

  • At 6:30 this morning it was 76 degrees…it felt like 80! I was dripping with sweat when I finished my run. It felt awesome.
  • I spent Friday-Sunday in the pool. I regret nothing.
  • My roommate got a dog. He’s a German Shepherd mix and he hates me. As in hadn’t barked or growled until he met me, but then about ripped my head off! He was home alone and under the kitchen table when I got home last night. He started growling at me when I walked into the kitchen. I’m supposed to let him out this afternoon. I don’t want to lose a finger in the process.
  • My boyfriend gave me his selfie stick for the wedding I went to this weekend and my nephews got ahold of it after church yesterday morning. I found this gem (and several others!) on my phone. I adore those boys.
  • I leave for Orlando on Wednesday. Thursday is Harry Potter World, Friday and Saturday I actually have to work…and then Sunday we’re going to the Magic Kingdom! I can’t wait!! Vacation baby! It’s going to be hot and humid in Florida–I think I’m going to pack a lot of running clothes-at least they’ll wick the sweat away!

Happy Monday Friends!

Hump Day Spark Date!

  • I think I need to cut my hair. It’s freaking long.
  • 1 week from today I’m heading to Orlando!!!!
  • I decided against the Husker Football tickets. They (only) cost $800 but, and this is a big but, they have a “donation” attached to each seat. At $2k a piece they would have cost me nearly $5,000!!! Yeah, right.

I’m not made of money!! Sheesh.

  • My cell phone is being a jerk. Rebooting, being slow, etc. I’ve only had it since September.
  • I found a ginormous spider when I walked outside this morning. I nearly screamed, but I was able to snap this picture before I walked around the other way. I do NOT need that in my life.

Absolutely terrifying.

  • I nearly got in a car accident last night when a woman blew a red light. I honked at her and slammed on the brakes. Get it together lady!
  • Things are really quiet in my office. The struggle to actually want to be productive is very real today.
  • I’m hoping to fit in a run tonight, but I’m going to my hometown to watch my 8 year old nephew play baseball. He’s pretty adorable.

Happy Wednesday friends!

Post-work run in the sun.

80° degrees, brilliant blue skies, and a bright sunny day combined for a very hot and sweaty 3.35 miles this afternoon. But it felt great to get out there and sweat!

running-matt and I were skyping yesterday. I was wearing a strapless dress and sweater but took off the sweater when I got home. Matt thought I was naked. Sorry to disappoint you Matt! 😉 Also, Matt multitasks sometimes when we Skype: he was playing videogames last night during our chat. I think I yelled “pay attention to me!” at one point. He put the controller down and listened then! 😉

Now I’m going to find something for dinner. There’s not a lot of choices…I really should go shopping!

a-yogi-who-wods is crushing my spirits

  • Christian and I are involved in our own FitBit Challenge this week. My lack of running is killing my step count. And he is crushing his. That’s irritating. Motivation for me, I guess.
  • I bought that lamp and table for $30 last night from a friend who is downsizing her home and moving into a townhome. She has pretty great taste and she cut me a sweet deal. I’m a fan.
  • The sunshine came back today! However, my Meteorologist roomie posted the above photo. Lincoln averages about 29 inches of rain a year. We’ve gotten 18 inches of rain in the last 6 weeks. So that’s awesome.
  • I’m wearing this dress today. While my co-worker and I went for a walk after lunch, a woman stopped me on the sidewalk and said to me, “that yellow dress is fabulous!” Made my day! I feel like a ray of sunshine!
  • Is Melissa that hard to understand or read in a email? I’ve been called Melinda, Martha, Natalie, Gretchen (what is THAT is about?!) and Melanie. Seriously people, look or listen a little closer! It’s not that hard.
  • I’m going running after work. I’m pretty excited about it. The weather is perfect to pound out some miles on the pavement.

Have a great Tuesday friends!

Monday things

  • Look at this adorable dress! $12.50 a Old Navy this weekend. It’s a little too big on top (story of my LIFE!) so I’ve safety pinned it. But how cute is it?!?? I feel so sassy!
  • It’s been raining here again. I’m about to build an ark. My basement has more water in it. SEND HELP!
  • I’m in a really good place right now. Life is good. ‘nuff said about that for now! 😉
  • My friend and I bought our tickets for Harry Potter World and the Magic Kingdom for our trip next week! I cannot wait to have butterbeer and get a wand! I’m so freaking excited!!
  • There are Husker Football Season Tickets available. This may not seem like a big deal to people, but to Husker football fans this is HUGE. The games have been sold out since 196something (more than 320 consecutive games) and due to Big 10 Rules they’ve got some tickets that opened up. This is a very tempting (but expensive) idea.
  • I need to go run today. I ran 4 miles on Friday after work, but that’s been it… I need to get my butt in gear.

Have a great week friends!!
