I’m too old to stay out late on a school night.

My former sports director from my old tv station was in town so the old ochos went out for some karaoke. I blissfully sank into bed around 12:45am. That 6:30am alarm SUCKED. But I had a great time.

I ran 4 miles today! It’s the most I’ve run since the Lincoln half in May! Whoops.

Also, I’m Betty freakin’ Crocker, apron and all. I made my famous banana bread for a former coworker who is leaving the tv station.

Bad news…there’s more water in my basement. The landlords were over for awhile trying to fix it. Le sigh. I think it’s a bigger issue than just praying it doesn’t rain too much at one time! Oy.

Happy Friday friends!

OOTD and Hump Day Things

  • I ran 1 incredibly hot mile last night after work in 95 degree heat. It might have been a really dumb idea…but it felt good to move and sweat. I also did the Jillian 30 day shred. I was sweating profusely after that was over. So that’s gross.
  • At 10am it is already in the mid 80′s–we’re looking at highs in the mid 90′s again. Hello Summer! So I wore dress shorts to work today. No shame in my game.
  • That’s Broyhill fountain on the UNL campus. I went to the union to buy stamps this morning and had to talk myself out of just sitting there with my feet in the water. Maybe this afternoon?
  • Man Friend and I might hit up a College World Series game this weekend. He’s checking into tickets at work today. The CWS has been in Omaha for more than 50 years, but I’ve never been to a game. I’m not a huge baseball fan…as I’ve only ever been to 2 games in my entire life. But he enjoys it, so I said I would go.
  • I have a massage after work today! I had forgotten I had scheduled that, so I’m pretty excited. Should just be a nice and relaxing time.
  • My running shorts tan line is coming along quite nicely. You can probably see it in the photo above. So sexy.

Have a great Wednesday friends!!

Hot weather and Husker hats

I am a big fan of this weather. I love pool weather and sunshine and just generally being outside in the heat. However, I also love my air conditioning. I’m complicated.

The Nebraska Bookstore (seller of all things Husker related) is closing next month so we trekked over during our lunch hour to see what was on sale. The entire store was half off, so I snagged that hat for $15! I needed a new ball cap.

Thanks for all the encouragement, RE: the man friend. I like him, you guys. I’m cautiously optimistic here, but I’m just going to stop fighting my commitment issues and enjoy it. We spoke again last night about the possibility of me going to New York with him in August for a wedding. The idea doesn’t freak me out now. I’m still not ready to book the flight, but I don’t feel like it would be a bad thing if I were to go.

I’m currently obsessed with the photographer who shot the wedding photos this weekend. His name is Wyn Wylie. He is 22-years-old and does AMAZING work, he travels all over and even is a lecturer at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I wish I had a reason to have a photo shoot done–he’s that awesome! Check him here. Seriously. Do it.

I’m planning on trying to go for a very slow run after work…then a little Jillian after that! The man friend and I have plans to hang out tonight. I’m kinda excited to see him! WHO AM I?!?!

Monday Musings

First of all, thanks for all the sweet comments on my post this weekend about that dress I wore to the wedding! $80 at Marshalls…so it’s making another appearance at a wedding in 2 weeks because I’m not made of money!! Sheesh. I had a very interesting and confusing weekend:

  • Fitness stuff first: I’m down 5 pounds. I’d like to lose another 5. I think it’s doable. Running and Jillian’s 30 day shred seem to be a good balance for me. I’m in a pretty good place. I still don’t know if I want to sign up for the Omaha Half Marathon. When I can’t seem to pull the trigger on races I find that it always is for a reason..which is usually revealed to me later. We shall see.
  • The wedding I went to was the BEST. The bride is Argentinian by birth and her mother is a part time dance instructor. The bride and groom did an Argentine Tango for their First Dance. That dance was EVERYTHING. Forget swaying to some soft rock love song. They slayed the dance floor. And she even changed to a special dress, and then back again to her bridal gown after the dance. AMAZING.
  • Want a love life update? Let’s put that after the break again!

  • Friday night date with the Man friend was good. I’m confused because I’ve never felt this level of comfort with ANY other guy I’ve ever dated before. And that’s saying something. I’m confused because it seems too easy. It’s not that he seems too good to be true, because neither of us are hiding our true selves here. He is honest about who he is, and so am I. Like he knows about my weight loss and stuff that I generally don’t tell someone for a long time into a relationship kind of honest here. But that this thing between us just seems so effortless and I just don’t know what to do with that.
  • He’s making so much room in his life for me; I told him I didn’t know how he could function without a clock in his living room/kitchen area and he didn’t have the microwave clock set. 2 days later he had to show me that he set it!
  • We spent most of Sunday together, brunching, doing errands, and enjoying the lake. He has Satellite radio in his car, and while we were driving to the lake he gave me control of the stations. In fact, he gave me my own presets on his radio!!! He said I could have 6 of them for any stations I wanted. And if that wasn’t enough, there were 6 more. I feel like that’s a pretty big deal for a man.
  • He offered to take my dress to the dry cleaners with his clothes that needed to be dropped off. I forgot to give it to him on Sunday, but still! How sweet is that??
  • Have you seen this quote:

This is what I kind of feel like is happening. It’s not work. It’s not hard. It’s this easy intimacy with him. And I like it. I like him. Why am I trying to fight it? I’m taking things day by day and we’ll go from there.

Two posts in one day? What the wha??

A humid and sunny afternoon off calls for a quick run in temperatures that gave me a bit of heat exhaustion…I had goosebumps in the sun! It was not a good situation. But I came home covered in ALL THE SWEAT. Feels good.

I ran errands and bought a few household things. Time for Jillian to punish me in the 30 day shred, then dinner and who knows what with Jr. Mint man!

Have a great weekend friends!

Happy Friday Friends!

Let’s Chat!

  • My organization was audited this week. It went well, so my boss said yesterday that we’re leaving at noon today! I love my job!
  • Day 18 of the Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred. It is getting easier. I have noticed some sweet definition my quads and I’m down 4 pounds. Hooray!
  • Want a Love life update? I’m putting it below the break!

  • I told the man that I’m seeing that I am a creature of routine (he said he noticed) and that I like my space (he said he noticed that too). I say I’m an introverted extrovert…and the introvert part of me just needs my space at least a few nights a week. He understood, but says he just enjoys spending time with me. I just need him to slow down.
  • So I love Jr. Mints. I have a problem. It’s fine. On our second date last week, my man friend showed up with the above bag full of Jr. Mints! How adorable is that?! (side note, he’s not the first guy to bring me those…in fact, he’s the 4th guy to do so! Maybe I talk about them too much???) He said he had to bring me 10 boxes to out-do the other guys!
  • I bought a new kitchen table the other day. I really liked the sun streaming in through the kitchen windows on it.

Happy Friday Friends!!

I’m Still Here!

Do you find that when you step away from your blog for awhile you have a hard time getting back into the groove? No? Just me? Well, my life is always a little bit crazy…but I’m working on it! Let’s catch up, shall we?

  • First of all a big thank you for all the comments on this post. You all are just the best and the reasons that I love this place. Such amazing friends and support can be found here. Thank you.
  • I bought the above postcard for my office while I was in Denver last week. It is my new mantra.
  • I discovered a place called “Sexy Pizza” in Denver. That name is
    PERFECTION.
  • I bought this wicked awesome shirt at the Tattered Cover bookstore, but they also have them online. As a book lover, it was perfect for me.
  • My love life is a strange thing. I think I’m seeing someone??? We had our first date Friday night, our second date Saturday night, and Sunday morning he helped me move my new kitchen table into my house. He even borrowed a truck (a stick shift) that he couldn’t drive very well, to help me! He has wanted to see me each night this week and already is talking about me being his date to weddings in July and August.
  • As you can imagine, I’m FREAKING OUT! Apparently, I’m afraid of commitment. Or maybe I just need him to slow down. Just relax and breathe, Mel.
  • Working out is good, I’m running shorter distances just for fun. I’m not 100 percent sure if I want to sign up for the Omaha Half in September. We shall see. I’m in the midst of the Jillian Michaels 30 day shred and so far I’m down about 4 pounds. I consider that a victory.
  • Thanks for sticking around guys! I promise I’ll do better at life updates!

“Who’ll stop the rain?” The Friday 5 Version

  1. More storms, more flooding. And I’m scared my basement has water in it. Le Sigh. I’ll see when I get home I guess.
  2. My friend and I are going to see Pitch Perfect 2 after work today. I’m SOOO excited!!!
  3. I bought that fabulous doormat at Target last night. Did I need it? Nope. Do I love it? Yep. Totally worth $12.
  4. I was getting ready to workout with a quick run and death by Jillian last night, when I looked at myself in the mirror from the side and I was surprised with what I saw. Who is that girl in the mirror? Sometimes I just don’t know that I see how I really look anymore. It’s hard to explain, yet I’m sure you all know exactly what I’m trying to get at. The mind is a weird thing.
  5. I leave for Phoenix on Sunday. I have not packed a thing. I get home late Wednesday night and leave Thursday afternoon for Denver for my Best Friend’s wedding. To say that I’m stressed is an understatement. I wish I didn’t live my life by the phrase “The ultimate inspiration is the deadline.” Get it together Melissa! Sheesh.

Have a great weekend friends! I’m packing my bikini (because life is too short!) and heading to the land of the dry heat! Can’t wait!!

Just another Manic Monday

  • Hello friends! I hope you all had a good weekend and start to your week!
  • Well, my Monday started out fine…then I discovered that I had gotten something on my white shirt. Luckily we have a bunch of t-shirts here for our student members (with lots of extras) so I rinsed out my shirt and am now wearing that one!
  • …..which also now has something on it. My Kate Spade purse strap is being weird and rubbing yellow on me. Which is strange as my purse is teal/green.
  • That text exchange is with one of my suitors. His reply to me telling him about the weight loss goal was pretty perfect! 🙂 I think I’ll keep him around! 😉
  • However, being called sexy by men is one of those things that I still have trouble wrapping my brain around. I want to ask, “are you talking about me?!?!” My mind is still stuck, I think.
  • Have you tried these Sparkling Ice drinks? Delicious and (they claim to be) 0 zero calories. Since I’ve been Soda Sober for nearly 3 years now it is nice to have some beverage variety.
  • runningfortheriesling will enjoy this: after the basement flood last week, my roomie who nearly shanked Sam has been sleeping on the couch or at her boyfriend’s house. I discovered the knife that nearly wounded Sam on one of the tables in the living room. I do not sleep with any weapons. Maybe I’m just asking for it? I don’t know.
  • I have a dates with a couple of guys this week. (Don’t hate the playa, hate the game!) Should be fun!
  • I leave on Sunday for Phoenix, AZ for a work conference. I get to meet this-incredible-journey!! I’m so excited! I can’t wait. I come home very late Wednesday night only to turn around less than 24 hours later to leave for Denver for 5 days for my Best Friend’s wedding!!! EEEE!!!

Happy Monday friends! Have a great week!

It’s Friday!

  • What a week! How is it that Sunday’s Marathon feels like it simultaneously happened forever ago and just a hot minute ago?
  • I’m wearing (dress) shorts to work today. If you look close enough you can see my running shorts tan line. Good stuff. I was able to come into work yesterday for about 3 hours and wore my running clothes. I consider that a victory.
  • I came home to even more disaster. My Meteorologist roomie who lives in the basement had her entire closet fall into the flood waters. So all of her clothes got wet. I am so stressed out by the amount of stuff that is every where in my house. I’m glad this happened this week, not last week when everyone came for the race. What a mess.
  • The restoration guys came over and ripped up the carpet and put fans and dehumidifiers everywhere. When I went to bed much of it was dry. I’m celebrating the small victories. Especially since it’s supposed to rain more this weekend. Highways and roads are closed due to the flooding. I’m hoping I can get to my parent’s house about 45 minutes away for Mother’s Day weekend.
  • Our landlord even said he would help us out with the electric bill since all this would put a strain on it. Such a nice guy!
  • File this under Things That Are Weird: One of the guys that I’m dating is on a neighborhood association board and he was a guest on my old TV Station’s Midday Newscast Forum yesterday. Since we were home and taking a break from moving things my roomie and I caught the newscast. (Our other roomie is the Morning/Midday Anchor there, and she interviewed him). It was weird to see this guy I’m dating at my old TV station being interviewed by my roommate. So, so odd. She texted me after to tell me how cute she thought he was. He texted me too to tell me about it. The world is so small.

Have a great day friends, and cross your fingers and toes for no more rain! I can’t do this mess again!
