Wednesday things

  • As you can see from the above picture, my friend Rob got a selfie stick. We took that gem of a picture to commemorate the occasion.
  • It has been cloudy, gray, and drizzly here for days. My psyche can’t take it. I am so tired. All I want to do is sleep. Getting out of bed in the morning is a huge struggle. All of my runs are happening after work and I really don’t like that. I need to force myself out of bed earlier to get my runs done before work.
  • I got our Gas bill in the mail the other day (we have gas heat and a gas water heater). This winter the bill has been averaging $130/month. Last month? $60. I’m so excited! Then I realized I was excited about a utility bill…and I realized that I’m officially a grownup. Huh.
  • I was the “talent” for another announcement video at my church last night. It will air on Sunday. This time the shoot had to do with babies. They’re going to edit some babies into the video in post-production. Should be funny to watch me be freaked out by babies appearing out of nowhere!
  • a-yogi-who-wods will make a stop in Lincoln tomorrow and we’re grabbing lunch! It’s only been about 7 months since I last saw this cool dude. I’m excited to see him again on his way back across the country to California!
  • I’m taking next Wednesday-Friday off. I cannot wait. My momma and I are going shopping and relaxing. I’m so, so excited.

Funk-y Town

  • The first photo shows my feelings about the fact that I snoozed my alarm so many times this morning that I couldn’t get up and run before work. Now I have 9.5 miles to do after work. Not a fan. Not a fan at all.
  • I never realized how much the weather affected my mood until I I realized that I haven’t seen the sun since Saturday. I’ve been a wee bit down and kind of ehhh because of that. I’m in a funk.
  • Despite the gray skies the world is exploding with color here in the Heartland. This pretty pink tree is on my morning commute. I like the bright yellow and pinks.
  • And I give you last night’s Easy run. I actually had a decent run. Negative splits (my last mile was 10:42! Whoops, not the 12:05 I was shooting for!)
  • After the marathon training is over, I’ve been contemplating what my next plan of attack is. And I want to branch out into more classes at my gym–including Spin and weight lifting classes! Although, Fun Fact: the guy I made out with a few New Year’s Eves ago is the instructor for the spin classes at my gym– File that under Reasons I DON’T want to take these classes! Oy! My Life.
  • In the past day I’ve been accused by TWO different men of not eating. Dudes. I eat. A lot. I promise.
  • I’ve gained some new followers lately. Hello friends! A quick intro: I’m Melissa. I’m 33. I used to be a TV News Producer, now I’m the Membership Director for an Educational Non-Profit. I’m training to run my 11th Half Marathon in May using the Hanson’s Half Marathon Method. I write about running, my life, and all the random things that happen to me along the way! Welcome aboard!

If you were in a different body, would you have the same personality?

(via ugly)

I’ve often thought about this, but perhaps in a different context. Would I be the same person if I had never gained all that weight? Would I still be “me”? Would I have developed my personality (which is largely that of the funny girl mixed in with a flirty side) if I had always been a size 8 like I am now? Would I be on a totally different path in life? I grew up being told that I had “such a pretty face.” Which is code for, “lose the weight and you’re probably attractive, fingers crossed.” Who would I have become if the circumstances (i.e., if I’d never been so heavy) been different?

Deep thoughts on a Monday

Sunday Scenes

  • My Long 12 turned into a long 10.37. The wind was soul-crushing and even though I tried to do this run in 2 parts, it was still awful and cut short. Whatever, dude. I’ll get ‘em next time. The 2nd picture shows a bit of how windy it was–those flags were pretty much standing straight out the entire time.
  • My big brother fixed my bumper! Shaniqua (that’s my car’s name; she’s a Ford Escort) no longer looks like a Dinosaur took a bite out of her booty.
  • My 3 nephews decided it would be fun to all pile on Emmie (that’s me!) Those kids are the best. Combined they weigh less than I’ve lost, weight-wise, but they felt incredibly heavy. Weird how that works out, huh?
  • Tomorrow we are celebrating my co-worker’s 50th birthday and we’re bringing treats, so I made my famous Banana Bread.
  • Fun Melissa Fact: Whenever I bake, I wear an apron. I’m awesome at spilling things on myself while I’m baking. I should probably wear it while cooking too! My mom got me this apron for Christmas. It’s from Hawaii and has a cute, flouncy little skirt. I dig it.

I hope you all have a fantastic week ahead friends!!

Stuff and fluff

  • I’m in week 10 of the Hanson’s Half Plan. 4 Tempo miles were run before work this morning. Nothing too exciting to report about this week’s runs except that I’m at 18/40 miles for the week.
  • I got a call from another sponsor this morning and they committed to $3,500, up $1k from last year. I was pretty excited, and then about 30 minutes later, the phone rang again. It was a brand new sponsor, who told me he was so excited to talk about sponsorship that he couldn’t wait to call me! He committed to at least $5000, but would like to leave his options open to adjusting that level to $10,000 as the year goes on. Um, yes please!?
  • So then I totaled my committed levels and I’m at $35,500/$50,000.  BOOM.  Feels good. Feels real good.

  • I’m having dinner with a college girl friend tonight. We lived next door to each other our freshman year and have been friends ever since. She has lacked some direction in her life and next month she will join the Air Force. I’m proud of her, but don’t think I could do that!
  • In other news, I made an effort with my appearance today and couldn’t quite put a finger on who I reminded myself of:

And then it hit me:

Minnie Freakin’ Mouse! (Minus the yellow shoes and hair bow!)

Halloween Costume ideas?!?!

Happy Friday Eve everyone!

Oh Thursday…

  • 4 Tempo miles on the schedule this morning. I woke up late and managed to get 2 of them in. So I’m not a complete failure. Just a partial one.
  • It’s snowing again right now. It’s bloody freakin’ cold too. I need a tropical vacation, stat.
  • Easy 5 tomorrow and Easy 6 Saturday. Should we take bets that I will actually get them done at the hotel, before the all-day long board meetings? I really have no other choice. Suck it up, Melissa.
  • Have you seen this?

I dig it. Love me some JT.

  • Did I tell you guys I get to go to Seattle in June for our Summer Board meeting? I’m so excited as I’ve never been to the Pacific Northwest. Who can I meet while I’m there? Is that close to any of you?? Message me!

Have a good one, Cats!

It’s the return of the Work Mirror selfie!!

Much like the rest of the continent we are experiencing some extreme cold here in the heartland. And since the students still aren’t back on campus yet (next Monday) and we’re roaming the halls of this dorm pretty much alone, I thought I would dress in comfortable clothes. Let’s be honest, I would have worn this either way!

  • My mom and I went shopping yesterday and I snagged this grandpa cardigan for $10 on a 70% off sale. It has some sparkle built into it, so you know I HAD to have it. 🙂 I’m in love!
  • I’m still really only eating “soft” foods; oatmeal, applesauce, etc. I’m kind of over it.
  • You know how I’ve said that words like “moist” don’t bother me? Well, I’ve discovered 2 that make me squeamish: “Irrigate” and “Socket" especially when used to mean to irrigate your tooth socket where your wisdom teeth once were. Shudders. That just freaks me out.
  • Today is a rest day. Today is also the season premier of The Bachelor. That show is my guilty pleasure. Don’t judge.
  • Things that are awesome: coming back to work today and finding out that we already have Monday the 19th off, for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. We NEVER got that as a holiday when I worked in TV News! The perks of working on a college campus.

Stay warm guys!
