I’m seeing ex-man friend tonight. I’m going to Omaha to hang out with the friends that introduced us to go to these First Friday events. Its going to be about 2 degrees so that should be fun! But ex-man friend asked me earlier this week (yes, we are still talking-texting really) if he could hang out with us tonight. I said yes.

So of course that means I must look fabulous, despite the cold weather! My hair is coiffed, the ‘war-paint’ is on, I have on my ‘sexy pants!’ I wanna make him weep!  Hope I succeed!

I will keep you posted friends!

Things that make me happy

  • With the cold temps I broke out some hot cocoa this afternoon for the Keurig. Mighty tasty. Yum.
  • It’s Friday!! (nuff said!)
  • I finally got paid from editing those videos last month (it took nearly a month, and I got $1250.00. Momma made BANK, baby! I’m using some for Christmas and saving $400 to make up for the additional expense when rent goes up in January when the roomie moves out. Fiscal responsibility FTW!
  • I’ve had 2 weeks off from the PT job–its been nice to have a break. But starting Saturday I work 5 days there in the next 7. Money, come to momma!
  • I’m in a ridiculously good mood. I don’t know why. I’m not going to fight it, just embrace it. My co-worker said that must mean I have a new guy in my life. LOL, NOPE! I’m done tying my happiness to a relationship or another person. My happiness comes from me.
  • I got my package for the Virtual Christmas Story 5k run. I plan on doing that on my treadmill tomorrow since its going to be 15 degrees.
  • I need to finish Christmas shopping-in particular for my Tumblr Secret Santa (and start it for everyone else. Whoops!)

Have a wonderful weekend friends!

It all depends on how you look at it

I live with 3 roomies. One of them texted us today to say she’s moving out at the end of the month and breaking the lease. Technically in Lincoln, NE only 3 unrelated people can live together, so we’ve been breaking the rules for the past few months at our house! But it made rent so cheap!

Our 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house is $1000/month plus utilities. So we were each paying $250 for rent and about $60 in utilities. Freakin’ awesome and cheap.

Other roomies and I decided not to find another roomie to replace her, since we plan on moving out in April. So rent will go up to $333 and utilities about $80 each. So its going to cost me about $100/month more.

That kind of upset me at first.

Then I realized:

I GET THE WHOLE BATHROOM TO MYSELF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s the little things people! A bathroom of my own. That’s totally worth $100 a month!

This is a post about cheekbones. And a little self-appreciation.

Forgive me, please.

Ladies, do you wear blush? If you don’t, I highly recommend trying it.

After years and years (we’re taking most of my 31 years) I’ve declined to wear blush. Heck, I wouldn’t even wear makeup at all! I just wasn’t into trying, you know?

Before I lost the weight, my mom told me that I had super high cheekbones. I didn’t really believe her, because I couldn’t see them. Then, when I lost weight, they popped out. But I didn’t know how to accent them.

Fastforward to my last birthday in March. A friend got me some NARS blush in the most universally flattering shade ever! It’s called Orgasm, and its so true-so flattering!

Long story short, try blush, you will be amazed at the compliments you get from it! One random guy at the grocery store actually told me I had “amazing cheekbones” the other day! Made my night! It’s amazing what a little blush can do! 🙂

This is the face of a happy girl!

I took a vacation day today to go to my kidney doctor appointment….got a clean bill of health and a “see ya in 2 years”. So I’m glad. Now I’m hitting the outlet mall for some Christmas shopping, and since it’s 63° here today, I’m going to go run a nice run after that! Hurray!

Happy Monday!

It’s 56° on the last day of November. I HAD to go for a run! I was chatting with Brooke earlier after she posted about running in the snow this morning and knew I had to get out there!

So many people are out, putting Christmas lights on their homes. I love it!
I’m helping my parents decorate today and then off to a party tonight.

Have a great weekend friends!

Friday Five!!

  1. It’s Friday and it’s Gameday baby! My Huskers are playing Iowa. It’s currently not going so well. 14-0 at the half. Get it together Nebraska! Edit: Now it’s 14-3, Nebraska just scored a field goal.
  2. I’m having Thanksgiving dinner with my family tonight and then a 3 day weekend! It’s the start of my 8 vacation days in December. I have to see my kidney doctor for my every 2 years (is that biyearly? IDK) appointment. Just a checkup. Then I’m going to do some Christmas shopping and maybe some baking!
  3. I bought a fabulous black lace curve-hugging dress at the Banana Republic Factory Store. I am in love. I need somewhere fancy to where it, stat. Or a date. Or both. I’m not picky! 😉
  4. I am currently alone in the newsroom. There is only 1 other person in the station with me. Gotta love holidays!
  5. My mom and friends keep asking what I want for Christmas. I have no idea. Any good ideas for me friends?

Happy Friday and weekend Friends!!

“Someone has to do it!”

  • I have worked every Thanksgiving but 1 in the past 10 years.
  • This makes me not really enjoy the holiday.
  • Which is quite sad, because I used to love it.
  • Spending time with family, cooking, eating. It was great.
  • Now, my family makes everything and waits for me to come to their house and then we eat. Around 6:30 or 7pm.
  • It feels rushed. Not as much fun.
  • I miss the 2pm dinners where I helped make everything.
  • But the news doesn’t stop just because its a holiday. And my family is close (45 minutes away) so I’d rather work and let people who want to go home far away get there.
  • Plus I get paid 2 extra days for working Thanksgiving and the Day After! So I work 40 hours and get paid for 56. That’s fantastic.
  • I also don’t really like most Thanksgiving food. I like a little turkey, some mashed potatoes (no gravy) sweet potatoes, green beans (not green bean casserole! That’s disgusting) and a crescent roll. I don’t even like stuffing. Thanksgiving is just not my thing I guess. I’m not a huge pie fan either. (can we still be friends?!)
  • The station is providing a Thanksgiving meal to those of us who have to work tomorrow. So I will eat a bit of that and remember to be thankful that I have a job, one that I (generally) enjoy.
  • I really can’t complain either, because I have (including weekends) 10 days off at Christmas! I saved some vacation days and don’t work a lot in December. And not working Christmas is the best trade-off!

Happy Thanksgiving Friends! May you enjoy the time spent with family and friends.

Monday, Monday

  • I started my Monday off with a trip to the doctor’s office for some blood to be drawn for a doctor’s appointment next week for my kidneys and a subsequent Tetanus shot. Being klutzy has consequences. After stabbing myself in the forearm with a box cutter Friday night, they insisted on the shot. I haven’t had one since 1998. 15 years is too long.
  • On the plus side, I am now boosted against Tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (whooping cough)!
  • I saw my General Practice Doctor in the hall as I was leaving the office. I said “Hey! What Up?!” To him as I walked by. He turned, smiled and said “Hi Melissa!” Only I would say “What up” to a doctor. This doctor delivered me when I was born, so he’s known me my whole life. Good stuff.
  • I am so FREAKIN’ EXCITED for Tumblr Secret Santa! I have a great person to give gifts to and I can’t wait to give buy and send them presents. I have so many fun ideas. I LOVE giving gifts. That is what the season is all about. It’s good for me to remember that.
  • I also have some ideas brewing for other gifts. I love love love Christmas.
  • Remember My car’s check engine light that turned on a few weeks ago? Yeah, I never got that checked out. But my car healed itself and the light shut off Saturday night. I’m not questioning it. Just considering it a win. I haven’t had good news in a long time so I’m glad.
  • I have to work both Thursday and Friday. BUT! I get 2 extra days of pay and the work is pretty easy so I’m okay with it.
  • My leg hurts a bit. I haven’t run since Saturday, but I need to. So I’m going to run a mile tonight and see how she feels. Fingers crossed.

Have a great week friends! Happy Monday!

I’m a Klutz

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve developed into a bit of a klutz. I’m not really sure how it has happened, but it has.

I find bruises all over my arms and legs, remnants of injuries that I’ve gotten when I’ve run into coffee tables, bed posts, doors, walls, etc. I had a nasty bruise and cut on my leg for nearly a month from slamming my shin into a coffee table. I find bruises I have no explanation for. It’s maddening.

So far this week I have:

  • slammed my elbow into my bedroom door in the middle of the night Tuesday as I was getting up to use the restroom.
  • I burned myself on the neck with my curling iron Wednesday morning. On the plus side, my hair looked fantastic! 😉
  • The wind caught the lid to the garbage can as I was wheeling it to the curb Thursday night. It smacked me in the forehead and left a bright red welt.
  • I stabbed myself in the forearm with a box cutter while opening wine boxes at Corky last night.

And that’s just this week! There are bruises on my upper thigh that I have no clue where they came from. I am beginning to worry about my safety!

In other news, I had to cut my run short this morning. My outer right leg still hurts from that injury a few weeks ago. I don’t think its an IT Band issue because my knee feels fine. It’s about halfway between my knee and hip and it just hurts. I foam roll and it feels better. But it also makes me feel like I need to baby it and walk with a limp. Any ideas as to what I’ve done? Is it IT band issues? HELP!!

Happy Saturday friends!
