Scenes from this mornings run. One of the streets in my neighborhood is all decked out for Flag Day. They lined both sides of the street with flags. It was pretty cool.

A beautiful flower I found along the way. It’s a lily I believe.

And me, look how sweaty I am only after 3 Miles! Such a humid day. In Nebraska we like to say, “it’s not the heat, it’s the humidity.” Oh sure, it’s hot here most of the summer, but the humidity is killer.

Have a great Friday friends! I’m off work, I took a half day of vacation to get some things done. And it is glorious!

Edit: today marked 4 days in a row that I got up at 6am to run! Hurray!

This is pretty cool. I’ve been invited to participate in the Weight Control & Diabetes Research Center’s study on weight loss.

They follow people who have successfully lost at least 30 pounds and kept it off for at least a year. Its all part of the National Weight Control Registry. Since I have lost 150 pounds and kept it off for nearly 2 years they said I was an ideal candidate for the study. They will follow me for the next 10 years…asking me about my eating habits, exercise habits, diet, things like that once a year. I have to send them pictures to document my weight loss, and I can allow them to contact my doctor to get other documentation of my weight loss. I’m enclosing these photos to show how much weight I’ve lost. And I told them they could call my doctor.

I don’t get paid anything, but I think its pretty cool that they want me to participate in the study. All my hard work is paying off!

Have a good evening friends!

3.1 miles done

My calves were screaming at me until about 2 miles in. That meant more walking than I wanted. No biggie. The weather was gorgeous…75°, sunny , breezy and perfect. Love those evenings.

Tomorrow its supposed to rain on and off all day so I may have to hit the treadmill if its too bad.

Hope, Amy and Melanie, glad I’m not the only one who struggles with getting up early to run. Its so hard sometimes!

Have a good night friends

Well THAT was awkward!

After I got off work at my PT job I went to my morning anchor’s 30th birthday party at her house. I dated a friends of her husbands last year for about 4 months. I got to know a few of his friends pretty well…went on vacation with then when we went to their wedding in fact.

Tonight, two of the friends were there, and said hi to me. One of then said “whoa, its like a blast from the past! Its like i went back in time!” Made me feel a little odd.

Then my ex and his new girlfriend came. The ex and I have seen each other previously and talked and it was fine. But tonight? Tonight we kinda ignored each other and that was weird.

I stayed for about 20 minutes after that and then left. I’m tired, my back hurts from standing for 4 hours at work and my bed was calling my name!

Night friends!

7 miles done.

Clockwise from top left:
I have always used the Razz flavor of the Cliff gels. But when I went to buy more before the Lincoln half last month I found the vanilla flavor. I like pretty much anything vanilla flavored so it stood to reason that I would like this. So i bought one and waited to try it on a long run that wasn’t a race day. OMG you guys! Its delicious! Tastes a little like candy and not gross and gel like at all. This could be dangerous. Its yummy.

The weather was perfect temperature-wise. 60°, cool, and cloudy. But that wind? 20-25mph gusts for the second half of my run. That was super fun. It was good to be pushed though.

Me, post run. Nice and sweaty! I’ve earned my shower and my first pedicure of the season! Can’t wait! I also got whistled at while i was running today…that’s always nice! It was one of those loud, piercing whistles that startled me. In fact, I was looking the other way because i was crossing over this small stream that was very full due to all the recent storms. I’ll take a wolf whistle any day! 😉

I’m having a Melissa day today…pedicure a little shopping, then i have to work at my PT job tonight. Should be a good day!

Happy Saturday friends!

Scenes from a fantastic evening run.
Clockwise from the upper left: if I were to describe to you the kind of house I want when I grow up, it would be this one. Classic colonial I believe. This house in in my neighborhood along my running route. I love looking at pretty houses when I run!

This cool eagle is carved out of a wood stump. Found it along my run.

Me, post-run. I continued my neon green theme with my new running shirt!

These rose bushes are in front of my house. That’s part of the fun of renting a house! The flowers that come up in the spring are a surprise!

And finally, a peony I saw along my run. Those are one of my favorite flowers! So pretty! During my run, the cotton was flying from the cottonwood trees. I love that sight. It has always signified that summer was here to me. Also, so many people had their grills out…the smell was intoxicating. I also love the smell of freshly mowed grass…one of my favorite summer smells!

On my way home, I was crossing a busy street when I had to run ahead of a car. The dudes in the car yelled something to me about “shake that ass!” as I ran across the street. Thanks random dudes. I’m sure my butt was shaking as I ran across the street, but I’m not sure they needed to point it out. Whatever dudes.

Now I’m enjoying a quiet night at home catching up on my tv! Happy weekend friends!

Two of my adorable nephews got their haircut tonight. Nick (the 3 year old on the left) got what he calls his summer ‘fuzzcut’ (instead of buzzcut). Jon the 6 year old, who is now a first grader!! begged all school-year long to get a mohawk. My brother’s compromise was a faux-hawk that he could still style into something appropriate if needed.

How freakin’ cute are they? Love these two!!!
