Life and Stuff

Exciting things are happening right now!

Here they are in no particular order…

  • I ran 5.35 miles tonight…same route with a little more tacked on from last night. That same hill? My fastest time was 7:15/mile down the hill! It was fun to run that fast!
  • I have a date tomorrow with the texter, and I’m meeting another guy on Saturday for a drink. It’s fine. I just have to keep their names straight.
  • I’m moving! My roomie’s boyfriend moved in with us in early March. It has been kind of awkward for me, so I’m moving in with one of my co-workers and her roomie. AND I don’t have to live in the basement! So excited about that! Plus I got a new (bigger) bed!
  • It’s supposed to be 70 degrees here tomorrow and Saturday so I’m super excited to go for my long run on Saturday.
  • I’m going to Denver next weekend for a 4 day weekend with my BFF. I leave Thursday night and don’t come home until late Monday. I got a super cheap flight on Southwest a few months ago. It’s only costing me $93.30! So freakin’ excited. I foresee a new Coach purse in my future! 🙂
  • Tomorrow is Friday!!!! So happy about that one!

Hope you all have a great night friends! 🙂

I am an idiot

I’ve had my current cell phone for over a year. It has wifi but I’ve had it turned off this entire time, just using my phone’s network and data.

Today I turned on the wifi and connected to my work’s wireless internet. What a revelation!

Pages and images load super fast and the best part? Normally by this time my battery is at 40%. Today? It’s at 80%.

Why haven’t I done this before? I’m an idiot.

Can I go to bed now?

So far today I have:

-Slammed my hip bone into the edge of my desk at work. Pretty sure that’s gonna leave a bruise.

-Caught my hair on a shirt hanging in the laundry room to dry. As I was standing up to undo it, I banged my head onto a shelf. My head is still tender to the touch.

-Screeched a little when I saw a spider scurry across the basement floor. (remember, I live in the basement! So EEK! to that!) the roomie yelled down to make sure I was okay.

-5 minutes later I came face to face (not literally, but close enough) to a cockroach on the floor of my bathroom. I let out a strangled scream and then calmly picked up my shoe and killed the disgusting creature.

I’m done. This day. I don’t even know. It wasn’t bad, just enough. I’m tired and I want to go to bed. At 8:30pm. No judgement.

In other news, I had my annual appointment with Cardiologist for my Bicuspid Aortic Valve Issue. My Echo looked great and he told me to keep running and doing what I’m doing, and come back in a year. He said he was proud of me for running the Full Marathon and Good Luck on Halfs numbers 4 & 5 in May. I love my Cardiologist. He’s good people.

Happy Monday friends!

Click-Clack

Ladies, want a surefire way to get noticed when you’re out and about? It’s easy!

Just wear your favorite pair of power pumps and a great outfit and run errands!

I finally got my lazy butt out of bed and ran 5 miles before work this morning so I had some time after work to run some errands. One of those included a Target run. As I was striding purposefully towards the food section my heels were click-clacking all the way as I walked. And wouldn’t you know it? Nearly every person I passed, man or woman, turned to look at me. I’m fairly sure I even caught a few admiring looks from a few guys! All in all, it was a good Target run! 🙂

In other news, today was my lunch with the General Manager and a few other co-workers. And when it was time for me to talk about myself and I told them my story of how I got into the News Biz and got to work at my TV Station and I told them a little bit about my personal life too. Everyone else in the room was older than me, so they had talked about their marriages and kids. My GM knows that I am single but dating. He asked me if I wanted to get married someday, and I told him yes, but I was still looking for the right one. The guy who said yesterday that I had 13 or 14 boyfriends made a comment that in the meantime, I was a dating machine! Roger, (The GM) laughed, and said that every time he sees me out in the evenings I am with a different guy, so he thought that was true! Everyone’s a critic.

That was embarrassing!

But seriously, I have only seen him out when I’ve been on dates 3 times and yes, each time I was with someone else. But still, no judgement, right? Oy.

Well friends, have a great night!

They think they know me pretty well

Starting tomorrow, my General Manager at my TV Station is beginning a new tradition. Once a month, he is randomly choosing 4 people from different departments to have lunch with him, on him. He wants to “get to know us outside of work. And learn more about our personal lives.”

My station is pretty small (only about 55 people work here) and we all know each other pretty well. With the exception of the GM, apparently!

Well, wouldn’t you know it? But I was chosen to be a part of the first group to have lunch with the GM! One of my co-workers who runs Master Control (that’s where everything you see on a TV station comes out of, all the shows and commercials) is also going to lunch with us tomorrow. He said he can tell the GM all about me:

This is his mini bio of me: “Melissa used to weigh a lot. Then she lost a lot of weight. Now she runs. That’s all she talks about. And she has 14 boyfriends.”

I laughed and told him that wasn’t true. He amended it to 13 boyfriends.

I wish!

Have a good day friends!

Vacation, The Dentist & Dating

I had an wonderful vacation last week. I shopped, relaxed, ran some, ate delicious food, slept in and spent time with my momma. It was nice and much needed.

Today, I’m back at it. Nose to the grindstone and all that. Mondays are always hard. Monday mornings even harder. And when you add in an 8am Dentist Appt? That can make your day suck.

However! No cavities! My Dentist is Hot and super nice so its not exactly a hardship to go see him. 🙂

In other news…there’s some good stuff in Dating Adventures with Melissa! It wouldn’t be my love life if there wasn’t something strange involved!

More after the break.

I had another 19 year old send me a message. He told me that he would be turning 20 in 6 months(!) and he would be moving to Lincoln for school then. He wanted me to “look past his age” because I seem “like an amazing woman.” And we apparently have a lot in common. Except that I was 12 when you were born. 12!!! Oy. Seriously? I ignored that one.

I met a guy for coffee before work last Tuesday (had to fit him into my very busy schedule somehow, no judgement!) and he has now become an obsessive texter. When I told him that I was going to be on vacation and going shopping last week he told me that he liked to shop and that I should send him some pictures of myself if I needed help deciding what to buy. Really dude? I’ve only known you for like a hot minute and you want me to send you pictures of myself? How about no?

Needless to say I did not send him pictures. He then texted me, wanting to know where his pictures where. I told him I loved everything that I bought and didn’t need any help deciding. He then told me that he wants to see me in my new clothes (I bought a bunch of spring and summer dresses) and that he wants to go running with me so he can see me in tight clothes! Awkward!! What do you say to that? He also said that I have to stay 3 steps in front of him so he has some motivation! Ugh.

I’m creeped out.

So there’s that. My older brother isn’t making it any easier on me; he and his wife have 3 little boys and he told me that I was “down by a field goal and it’s almost halftime.” Like I need any more pressure to find someone! Alternately, he also told me that I’ve dated half the city where we grew up! This is NOT true, but I’ve dated my fair share of men. You gotta kiss a lot of frogs, right?

Have a great day friends! 🙂

Today is my Friday!!

I’m off the rest of the week! I’m going shopping, relaxing and running. I plan on spending time with family and friends and supporting the economy.

These are the first days off I’ve had since the holidays–so they are very much needed! And in a few more weeks, I’m going to Denver for a long weekend with my BFF! Can’t wait!

Hope you all have a fantastic day friends!

This weekend was full of birthday celebrations and it was awesome. Saturday night we did a group dinner and then went out to karaoke. The main anchor at my TV station is a great karaoke singer. He sang me the song “Take Me Home Tonight” By Eddie Money. The catch? I had to go up with him and sing the line “Be my little baby…”

My co-workers recorded it and aired it Sunday night and this morning on the news! I was mildly embarrassed that thousands of people heard me sing. But then decided, ‘oh well’ and I knew I had to share it you all!

Enjoy friends!

Flashback Friday, Birthday Edition.

At my work they put your name on the sign by the door announcing it’s your birthday. Every year I take my picture with the sign.

The first picture was from my birthday in 2004 or 2005. I was at or near my heaviest weight here. I would have been about 22 or 23 years old.

On the right is today’s picture. I’m turning the big 3-1 tomorrow. I’m pretty happy where things are. And I love my hot pink pants!! 🙂

My drivers license expires on Saturday. I got a form in the mail telling me that I could renew it online…but they would use the same photo and information (i.e. My weight). That was NOT an option seeing as I had lost about 50 pounds since I got the old license in 2008!

I went in this morning and got this one. Now maybe bartenders and TSA agents won’t double take every time they check my ID!

The clerk at the DMV looked at my license and did a double take as well, and then asked me how I lost all the weight. As I was leaving I heard her tell another worker that she needed some of my willpower! All in all it was a pretty great start to my Thursday!

Have a great day friends!
