Health Care in this Country is a Joke

I had to have an internal ultrasound and a lot of blood work two weeks ago. This morning I got my EOB’s and of the $2200 I was billed, I owe nearly $800! For some blood tests and an internal ultrasound! The bloodwork cost more than the ultrasound! I also still owe just over $1000 for the procedure I had done last September 15th. I’m so depressed.

I feel like I will never stop paying medical bills.  I just got paid yesterday (my second 3rd paycheck month of this year) and I wanted to save $500-$1000 but now I’m going to use that to pay off this latest hospital bill. I am grateful that I can afford to do this, but I’m so frustrated with how crippling medical bills are.

I then checked how much how wedding trip will cost, and the price went up $200 from last night. We still have time to book, but that just frustrates me. I also talked to the resort wedding photographer and found out the prices so now we have to find another $1300-$2000 for that. ARGH! IT NEVER ENDS!!!

In other news, we’re going to the New York State Fair this weekend. I have mixed emotions about whether or not it will be fun or just sticky and expensive. I am excited to go–it’s in Syracuse so we will get out sticks where we live, but I feel like it might be a waste of money. At least we will get to go the Husker Football Watch Bar in Syracuse so I can watch the game with my fellow transplanted Husker Fans!!

Have a great weekend, friends!

Update

  • I went to the doctor on Tuesday. He gave me Prednisone. Awesome stuff. I’m on it for 7 days and 3 days in my hives are nearly gone. There is still a bit of itching. But it’s so much better! Huge relief.
  • I went to the Dentist before I went to the doctor to fix the tooth that I chipped Saturday night. He filled it, but said it might not last, and I should consider a crown. That sucksssss.
  • I work at Corky tonight (they called me in, otherwise I haven’t worked since Sept. 21st!) hoping for some good tips.
  • My mom’s BFF’s daughter-in-law needs some help for an event some night in Lincoln next week. It apparently pays well. I’ve left her a message and am waiting to hear back about it. I’d like to keep on this money train.
  • It’s supposed to get cool here (read: 50’s) this weekend. I’m looking forward to jeans and boots and sweaters and scarfs.
  • In that same vein, I really really really want a pair of red skinny jeans. Like bright red. They are incredibly hard to find. I spent a good portion of my day off driving around Lincoln looking for them. But skinny jeans are hard to find when you have runners calves. That’s rude. I will prevail!
  • Still haven’t decided what do about rude co-workers and ex-coworkers reading this blog. A big part of me says ‘screw you’ and I think I will continue to post as normal. If you are that mean, well, I just don’t understand that.
  • It’s Thursday. Tomorrow is Friday. That’s fantastic!

Have a great day friends!

“A car is a hole in the road that you pour money into.”

That quote comes from my dad. He’s said it my whole life about all car repairs and even just putting gas into the cars in general.

Friday night I noticed when I accelerated my car was super loud. Like something was wrong with the muffler. I called my mechanic (the dealer) and they said I had a cracked tailpipe. They told me to call this other guy to fix it because it would be cheaper.

As I was leaving the dealer I tried to turn my air conditioner on. Cold air would not come out of the vents. I took it to the mechanic right next to my station today.

His diagnosis?

Cracked tail pipe: take it to a muffler shop-it will be cheaper.
A/C needed a recharge: $91.70 later I’m good to go for the rest of the summer. It’s much too hot here NOT to have a working air conditioner. So I will bite the bullet and do the A/C recharge. I seriously hate spending money on car repairs. Oh well. It can’t be helped. And I can’t take it with me!

Have a good Tuesday friends!
