Lincoln Half Marathon W7, D2. 8X600 AKA: Speed Work Baby!

I’m tired and everything hurts. 

Ok, so maybe that’s an exaggeration. But I am tired and sore. My legs are fatigued after running 34 miles in the past 6 days. 

This morning I miscalculated my mileage and thought I had to run a total of 9 miles, instead of the 7 miles I actually had to run. So I was pleasantly surprised to be done with my run by 6am. I had gotten up and on the treadmill by 4:30am, hence the exhaustion.

Tomorrow is a rest day. My poor, tired legs need it. two-o-nine told me to get Tart Cherry juice to help with the tired legs. I know she and runningforbiscuits swear by the stuff. So I hit Trader Joe’s after work for that and other groceries, including tonight’s dinner (and lunch tomorrow!) sushi!! I’ve been craving that stuff for a few days now. And after walking by the flowers I decided I needed some to brighten up my house. No Valentine?? No problem!! I’ll give myself flowers, thankyouverymuch!

I’m spending a quiet night with Jess, Nick, Schmidt, Mindy and Danny tonight! (New Girl and The Mindy Project!!)

Lincoln half marathon W6 D6 & D7

Easy 5 & Easy 9. Target pace 12:05-12:55, actual 11:49 & 12:26.

A perfect weather weekend. Mid 50s and sunny. It’s amazing how running outside is so much better than running on the treadmill. I’m a big fan of all this snow melting away.

My legs were tired when I started running today, but when I hit 5 miles it felt like I had just started running. I like those kinds of runs.

When I was about 2.5 miles in to my run today a couple of guys whistled at me as they drove by. I waved and kept running. Thanks for noticing dudes.

Tuesday Things

  • First Speed work of my Hanson’s plan tonight. 12X400 which works out to 8 miles with a 1 mile warm up and cool down. That’s a lot of miles on a Tuesday.
  • I have a massage scheduled after work today. I’m pretty excited about it. My hamstrings, glutes, lower and upper back are on the menu. My masseuse is a sports masseuse and has seriously strong hands. I can’t wait.
  • Mileage seriously jumps this week. From 28 miles to 37. It’s week 6 guys. Week 6. The Lincoln Half Marathon is May 3rd. We are less than 3 months out. Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming.
  • The Runger I’m experiencing is REAL guys. I can’t seem to satiate this beast inside me. The more I run the more I want to eat. But I don’t eat too much or eat junk so I suppose that’s a win?
  • I’m on the hunt for new books to read. Any great recommendations? I like fiction, memoirs and most recent pop culture works.
  • I think New Guy (and his inappropriate friend!) are out of the picture. I haven’t heard from either one of them since the thigh incident. Whew!

Scenes from a pretty good weekend.

  • That first picture is an invitation for a wedding I got for a ceremony in Mexico this June. I REALLY want to go. How cool is that calligraphy? Aside from the extra “L”, it was perfect.
  • I baked this lemon-blueberry bread. It is a Pinterest recipe and I’ve made it before to raves. Make it. You’ll love it.
  • I ran 5 more easy miles today. They were on the treadmill as it was chilly and windy and I’m a wimp.
  • Then I FaceTimed with two-o-nine. That always makes my heart happy! I adore that girl. At some point in our conversations it ends up with us doing extreme close ups of our faces. I don’t know why. We just do it. I love that about our friendship! She gets my particular brand of crazy. 🙂
  • Are you looking for that love life update? Long story short, Friday night I got a text from a number I didn’t know. It was the friend and soon to be roommate of new guy (the guy I met at the wedding). He’s the one who called me “gorgeous” when I met him a few weeks ago. He wanted me to meet the 2 of them out for a drink. I finally agreed (even though I was in my PJ’s and really didn’t want to go out). When I met them out, it was the 2 of them and another female friend. New guy’s friend was sitting on my right and new guy on my left. The friend kept pressing his thigh into mine, grabbing my hand and lacing his fingers through mine, and touching my thigh. Apparently, this is normal behavior for him. All night, he would touch my face and called me “Cheekbones.” He was a little obsessed with my bone structure! He then leaned in close to me and said, “Don’t F*@K my friend.” I was startled, but said, “Ok, I won’t.” Because I won’t. I just don’t like New Guy. Then the friend said, “Good, because I really like you. You’re really pretty." 
  • Uh-Oh. I’ve entered dangerous, uncharted territory here. At first I thought he was telling me not to break new guy’s heart, but nope. That’s not what he was saying at all. 
  • He kept poking me, touching me and pressing his leg into mine. I felt a little uncomfortable and I left not long after that. New Guy texted me Saturday but I haven’t talked to the friend. Dudes, Man. I don’t even know.
  • It’s supposed to be in the 60’s here the next few days. I’ll take it.

Lincoln Half Marathon training W4,D6. Target 12:05, actual 11:43.

I switched today’s easy 5 for tomorrow’s easy 6 because the forecast for tomorrow is cooler and much windier. Then I accidentally miscalculated my distance so I ran an easy 7 instead of an easy 6. Whoops!

It was a pretty perfect 50 degrees and overcast. Ideal running weather. Look at my cute new vest! It’s great to run in this time of year.

Today is for relaxing and cleaning the house and enjoying my weekend.

A pretty perfect day for a run here in Nebraska. I ran a little faster than prescribed, but I felt good. Whoops!

I got chased by 2 dogs. One even nipped at my heels! Come on people! Keep your dogs on a leash in town!

My phone plays a tune when I hit my step goal…even right in the middle of a song.

I went to the Ocho’s Christmas party today. I even got a prize! A $25 gift card to a local store. How nice is that?!

I’m off tomorrow. And i have a date! I’ll keep you all posted!

Today by the numbers:

60-degrees outside! In the middle of January! I’m a fan. This weather is expected to last through Monday.

4-miles ran before work this morning. 12:00/mile. Training for the Lincoln Half is coming along nicely.

6-days I get to work this week. I’m grumpy about that. But tomorrow should be done by noon so I can run outside!

2-miles I walked after work. Another long day of meetings and another dinner tonight with my co-workers and work leadership means I didn’t have time for a run and shower, so I opted for a walk.

3-times I got honked at during my walk tonight. The last guy even waved at me. Thanks random dude.

I’m glad I get Monday off, but this long weekend is pretty much shot. Sometimes I hate having plans!

Friday Five!

  1. My OOTD. Don’t judge that I’m wearing this sweater twice in one week! It’s warm, comfortable, and it sparkles. It is 10 degrees here. I’m cold. Also, #longhairdon’tcare
  2. Look at my fabulous mint lace boot cuffs! I got mine for Christmas from my parents, but you can order some here. I love mint colored anything, I even have a pair of mint boat shoes.
  3. 3 Easy Treadmill miles tonight, followed by 3 more tomorrow and another 4 on Sunday. Sounds like a solid weekend.
  4. Half of the office is out sick today. When you only work with 3 other people in the office right now, that means it’s verrrryyy quiet in here. And the students don’t come back to class until Monday.
  5. One week post wisdom teeth surgery today. My mouth is starting to feel better. However, getting bits of food stuck back there SUCKS. The Oral Surgeon told me it would likely be 6 weeks before I’m fully healed. THAT’S something that NOBODY bothers to tell you when they talk about getting their wisdom teeth out.

Lincoln Half W2, D4 Easy 3. Target 12:05-12:55, Actual 12:00

I was going to run this morning. But I overslept so that didn’t happen. So After work it was. It was a decent run. 3 miles, non-stop. I was listening to my latest song obsessions and generally having a decent run. I like that.

I was all set to tell you that I’ve been in a pretty bleak body head-space lately. I feel very out of control because I don’t know why I gained the 10 pounds I did last year. I didn’t change any of my eating habits. And yes, I will agree some of it is muscle…but not all of it. I’ve kept up my running and I eat generally well, so this loss of control has me feeling awful. I don’t like it. 

And then my roommate, the sweet girl that she is, in the middle of a conversation about something completely unrelated, said to me, “you look really skinny.”

It was totally out of the blue, and I was inwardly thinking, My gut is pushing out more than before. My hips and thighs are HUGE and my butt is so jiggly, I’m so gross. Hand to God. Those thoughts were streaming through my head at that exact moment. And then she said that. And it was like a weight had been lifted. I’m strong, I’m powerful, I’m a woman. And I’ve lost an ENTIRE HUMAN BEING in weight off my body. Get it together Melissa. You are NOT gross. You are fine. The world doesn’t see all of your imperfections like you do with such a close up microscope. Get over yourself. Sheesh.

And it also helps, that as I was getting the mail out of the mailbox (which is right next to the street which is a busy street here in Lincoln) a man double honked and waved at me from his car! Hey guys! I’ve still got it! Even dressed as Nanook of the North!! 😉

In other news, I think I accidentally agreed to a date for Saturday night! Whoops! And no, it’s not with the new guy from the wedding! I’ll keep you posted.

As my co-worker says, The most random things really do just *happen to me!

Tuesday Things

Lincoln Half training W2, D2 easy 2, target 12:05-12:55, actual 12:00.

Decent run before work on the treadmill. I like these easy runs, but I worry that the speed I’ve gained will be lost. I know from everyone else’s experience that is not the case, but I still worry. Especially when I find myself really enjoying the pace of these runs!

Look how red my nose and cheeks are! It’s about a two block walk from the parking garage to the dorm where my office is located. Of course it was only 10 degrees this morning with light winds and I nearly froze my buns off on my walk over!

I wanted to go to weightlifting class tonight. (Full confession, I didn’t really want to go…but felt like I should since I haven’t been able to go for a month!) But then I talked to my mom and coworkers and they all strongly discouraged that as it hasn’t been a week since my wisdom teeth were pulled and my mouth aches pretty much constantly from about noon on. I feel like a slug despite running 2 miles this morning before work!

Is it sad that I’m really excited about New Girl and Mindy returning tonight? Well, too bad if it is! I’m snuggled on my couch and I’m going to enjoy them!

Oh. Some were wondering if I had an update on the new guy. Not really, no. He texted me on NYE, late enough that I’d made other plans. But then texted me happy new year around 1030pm just in case he was too drunk later to remember to text me. Then texted again on Saturday asking how my wisdom teeth went. And that’s been it. To be honest, I’m not really attracted to him and I kinda forget about him until he texts me. So clearly I’m just not that into him. Oh well. Time to move onto my next mistake! 😉
