Rules of the Road, Part 2

Running can be a very dangerous activity. Sometimes, it feels like you’re taking your life in your hands. Especially when you almost get ran over by a car!

Case and point:

I’ve told you guys that I run partially through quiet neighborhoods, along some busy streets, and on some trails. My neighborhood has it all. This morning, I was running along a busy street-against the flow of traffic, wearing my headphones with the sound low enough to hear traffic noise.

Imagine my surprise when a car that was backing down its driveway right next to me starts honking at me to get my attention. I see you sir. I also see that you can’t go ahead and back out due to the volume of traffic. So I acknowledge them with a wave and head nod and keep running.

The honking continues, as does their descent down the driveway, and I’m still running towards them. I pick up speed, and keep running, they keep honking and backing up, and narrowly miss hitting me by about 6 inches. Are you kidding me?

As I run past them, I turn back to see that they are still sitting at the edge of the driveway, waiting for traffic to move. In fact, I got nearly a block away before they could get onto the road! Seriously dude, you had to try to hit me just to wait for a few more minutes at the edge of your driveway? You’re awesome. Thanks.

It took all I had not to glare at them and stick out my tongue when they finally caught up to me and passed me a little while later.

Last time I checked, pedestrians (even runners!) have the right of way! Especially if you can’t go yet! Patience dude, patience.  Wouldn’t you rather wait than hit someone? I know I would!

Sheesh.

Perfect Sunday

2 mile Run this morning before church. I wanted 5 miles, but woke up late and settled for 2.

After a quick target run I hit my favorite produce stand for another watermelon and peaches. The girl at the stand remembered me AND she had a dachshund puppy! (my parents have 2 of them, and they are THE best dogs! This precious little girl was named Fern. I bought a black diamond watermelon. Try them, they’re delicious!

Then my friend Keith and I went on a quick little bike ride through the park. It is a gorgeous sunny Sunday.

Next up? Keith and I are grabbing dinner. Burritos!

Tomorrow is my mom’s test, so I’m praying pretty hard today. Thoughts and prayers are appreciated. Thanks friends!

Good Intentions

Sometimes, your body just needs sleep.

Lesson learned.

I hit snooze so many times today that I finally gave in and reset the alarm. A run is not going to happen today. But that’s ok. I’ve done 5 miles each of the past 3 mornings and I went on a 7 mile bike ride last night. Between that, the 100 day pushup challenge (I’m on day 25) and planking (I’m up to 1:55!) My body was tired. So I gave it some sleep…and I feel so much better!

On the plus side? No work calls overnight! Score! However, I do have to do vacation schedules for the newsroom today…I’ve been avoiding those. First world problems!

Happy Friday friends!

This day. Ugh.

Today marks two mornings in a row of being woken up in the middle of the night by a work phone call. This time, my Chief Meteorologist called to tell me at 1:45am that our Morning Meteorologist was sick and he needed to call someone in, but who? Our weekend girl (who has Thursday and Friday off) or my roomie (also a Meteorologist) and works Thursdays. I told him to call my roomie and went back sleep.

Clearly I was out of it. She literally lives one floor below me, I could have gotten up and ran downstairs. But in my defense it was the middle of the night and I was tired!

Then I forced myself to get up and run, despite being quite tired, because I thought I had a froyo fundraiser to go to tonight for a friend. Turns out it’s NEXT Thursday. I could have slept in!! Oh well, workout is done! And it was a fantastic morning for a run-60’s, low humidity, nice day!

Then the news day got crazy…we had an inmate who was out on work release escape-made for an exciting few hours! He was just caught about 2 miles away from the station.

All I want to do is go home and chill.

But I need to get a few groceries and I think I may go for a bike ride. This day is gorgeous! I really shouldn’t waste it.

I better not get a middle of the night work call tonight–heads will roll! 😉

Hope you have a great rest of the day friends!

Mornings are hard

  • I got woken up at just before 5am by my cell phone ringing. It was work. The fill-in producer for the morning show couldn’t log in to the computer to run the prompter. The show starts at 5am. I gave her the log in information and promptly went back to sleep. (side note: I have great job security because NO ONE can remember this log in information! They will call me at home if I’m on vacation because I’m the only who can remember it.)
  • My alarm started going off at 5:30am…I finally pulled myself out of bed at 6am.
  • Another 5 sweaty miles in the books.
  • They say you don’t regret a workout, but I certainly hated myself for being up and running when I so wanted to still be sleeping. That feeling went away around mile 3. It was a gorgeous morning-albeit quite humid. But I love a good sunny day. Makes you glad to be alive.
  • I got more honks and “whoo’s” than usual during a morning run.
  • When I got home I found out why: I had sweated 2 perfect circular spots…right on my boobs. What a picture I must have made to all the morning commuters!
  • My roomie came home from her Boyfriend’s early this morning and quickly changed and left…but not before telling me that I “was so cute, sitting there eating [my] breakfast.” Um, Thanks? I was watching GMA wearing my robe. I’m sure I looked awesome! 😉
  • Thank you for all of your kind words about my mom yesterday. I will keep you posted with what we find out. Thoughts and prayers are appreciated! The tests are Monday.
  • Happy Hump Day friends!

Beast Mode Engaged!

It’s 6am, 83 degrees, 95% humidity, a rain shower just moved through, and a heat advisory to the south for the rest of the day. That means I should go run, right?

Right!

5 miles, 56 minutes. Opressive humidity and heat already at 6am. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, right? Ugh.

I have NEVER sweated so much on a run. But I just couldn’t bring myself to run on the treadmill when its nice outside. So I went. The run was good. And you know what was even better?

The very attractive man who ran past me on the trail! He was shirtless and quite handsome! We both said “hi” and kept running past each other.

Same time, same place tomorrow sir? I’ll be there! Now that’s what I call motivation! 😉

This is my shirt after my run. The spot on the right middle where its a bit lighter is the one place where sweat didn’t cover my shirt. So. Much. Sweat!image

Happy Tuesday Friends!

Gorgeous morning for a run! Cool and somewhat humid, but great nonetheless.

I’m 13 days into a 100 day pushup challenge with my roomie and coworker. And we’re planking too…I’m already at 1:05 and boy can I feel it! But when I’m ripped it will be worth it!

Happy Tuesday friends!

P.S. An update on the date is coming!

The man with no pants

One of my running routes takes me through a quiet neighborhood. There’s a house along the route with a patio table and chairs on the front porch where I frequently see a young woman eating her breakfast outside. She’s usually wearing just her bathrobe. No judgment, its Lincoln, its a quiet neighborhood, and i would totally do it too….if I didn’t live on a busy street!

This morning it was her husbands turn to eat breakfast outside apparently! As I ran by I caught movement out of the corner of my eye. The man was sitting in a chair, wearing nothing but his boxers! He calmly sipped his coffee as I ran by….and gave me the head nod. I nodded back….with a big smile on my face!

Dude. I like your style.

🙂 Happy Friday friends! Make it great!
