Monday, Monday

  • We got our bib #’s for the Fargo Marathon today. Apparently, I can’t type because I entered my birth date at 1986 instead of 1982. So they think I’m 27 instead of 31. Score one for me! However, that means I’m in the wrong age group. My bad! I think I can fix it at the packet pickup.
  • Bailee and I are driving 7 hours together to Fargo Thursday/Friday. I like to sing along to the radio when I drive/road trip. Poor, poor Bailee. She’s gonna have fun! 🙂
  • Remember I double-booked myself with dates on Thursday? Yeah. Well, date number 2 was a no-show. He texted me, saying that his ex-wife hadn’t show up to pick up their daughter. 45 minutes later she still hadn’t and he texted me again, apologizing all over himself about it. I told him it was fine, in fact, I was in the middle of the Glee finale so I wasn’t that upset about it! We made plans to go out tonight.
  • On a whim, I texted him earlier today to see if we were still on. His reply? He said that he was home, sick in bed and felt so awful about ditching me again. Do I believe him? I’m not sure. He says he still wants to see me, and I told him I could maybe do something Wednesday night. We shall see. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. I’m certainly not holding me breath about this one.
  • My co-worker that is friends with Thursday’s lunch date emailed him today. He said he thought the date went well and that he wanted to go out again. I have yet to hear from him. We shall see on this one too.

This is a great idea Robb! Someone with similar interests would be great. I will look into it!

No worries Bob, I’m quite allergic to cats! 😉

baileerunsthroughlife said: But I’m going to miss all your stories! 😉

Sorry Bailee, I will try to find other dates to give you great stories. Plus, there are some stories that I haven’t shared with you all! Those are some gems! I will post about those later.

Scenes from my long run today. The weather here is fantastic! Sunny, low 60’s, but there is a 25mph wind that made parts of my run suck! Hopefully we have good weather for the Fargo half Marathon next week. Can’t wait to see everyone!

I’m home for mother’s day weekend so I also get to spend some time with my parent’s dogs. They are mini dachshunds…Molly and Sophie. They love laying in the sunshine! I love lilacs so I had to stop and literally smell the flowers! And the tulips were too pretty not to take a picture of! And I just love that white tree! It smells divine!

Happy Saturday friends! I plan on relaxing and have a haircut later today! Enjoy your days, and happy mother’s day to all the moms out there!

Lincoln Half Marathon Recap (3rd Times the Charm!)

This marked my 3rd consecutive year running the Lincoln Half, and 4th Half overall. I was thirsty for a PR for this race. My first Lincoln I did in 2:42:57, Last year I did it in 2:33 and change, and I was so close to a sub-2:30 I could TASTE it. So I set about to get it.

We were worried about the weather all week, and we got a pretty perfect race day; temps in the upper 40’s cloudy and cool. No humidity at all. Perfect running weather. After meeting Holli, Bailee, and Lindsay before the race, we lined up and finally we were off!

Did I mention that my older brother and sister-in-law ran the half too? It was their first half. Last year my sis-in-law was pregnant and said that she wanted to run it this year. So she talked my brother into doing it with her. So proud of my family!

I kept up a decent pace; about 10:30-10:45/mile. I think I’ve told you that the course is pretty flat. Well, I lied. You might say Nebraska is flat, it might not have huge hills, but there are some good ones along the course. I hit the first rise just before the 5k point…I had to walk there. My secret goal of a no-walk half was suddenly over. I was irritated with myself and started running rather quickly. I saw my parents at the 5k point and slowed down for a photo…Then I was off, and heard my name being called and I saw my friends Tracey and Rose at mile 4! I started yelling and Tracey snapped this photo.

I love this picture! Seeing them energized me to keep going. Some race highlights: Lincoln has A LOT of good looking cops that were working the marathon! There was one who I stared at as I ran up to him, and by him-he was dreamy! And buff! Eye Candy in the morning!

After I made that turn, then I was at the next water stop. I then saw my friend Keith just before mile 6. I had told Keith I would get to him around 8:45…and he lives 2 blocks off the marathon route so he rolled out of bed and and got down there 2 minutes before I arrived! Good timing! I saw him, Yelled at him, and he said “go get ‘em Sugar Tits!” (that’s his special nickname for me! No judgement!) And off I went!

That part of the race is downhill for about ¾ of a mile so I was booking it. Then I got to the point where the race winds around to the Highway 2 bike path and narrows. I had some issues at this point. I walked and ran. I got a stitch in my side But every time I walked I thought about that stupid text message from Douche-Bag Scott that I had gotten the night before. THAT motivated me to keep going. Rage running is a thing. Right? It’s my thing apparently! And I did great when I thought about that text and how much of a douche Scott is/was.

“The Hill” is at mile 9ish. Its a long sloping hill, then it levels off, only to do another long sloping hill again. It sucks and I’ve always had to walk it. Whatever. It’s fine. That area is the Country Club with a lot of nice houses. One house had a spiral staircase in its backyard and a stone courtyard. I totally found it on Google Maps Street View. This is the house:

I then saw my friend and co-worker Linda and her son Myles. She yelled my name, and ran out and gave a hug and off I went again!

Miles 10-12 are a bit of a blur. I was so ready to be done. I just wanted to finish with a sub-2:30 and I saw the 2:25 pace group pass me and I was devastated. But then I decided that I had to run my own race, no matter what. I dug deep and started running again.

When I got to mile 12 I decided I would run it in. I got to about mile 12.5ish and saw Victoria! She told me to keep going and that I was awesome. So I pushed a little more and found the fire to go.

I crossed the finish line (at the 50 yd line of Memorial Stadium! Pretty cool for a Nebraska girl and Husker fan!) in 2:28:11. PR by more than 5 minutes. Victory is mine!

I was cold after the race:

Afterwards, since it was Cinco De Mayo, my parents, brother and sister and I went to lunch at a local Mexican Restaurant. The Most Interesting Man in the world was there, so I posed for a picture with him:

This race was great! Next week I head to Fargo to run a 5k and Half Marathon with Bailee, Brooke and Johnna. I’m wildly excited for a Tumblr reunion!

Happy Friday Friends!

You’ve got to be kidding me!

Last night around 8:45, as I was getting stuff ready for today’s race, I got a text message notification on my phone. If I get to it fast enough, I can read most of the message as it scrolls across the top. All I managed to catch of this one was “…sorry.”

I had been getting good luck texts all day, so I wondered who it could be from. And why they were sorry. When I opened message, my stomach dropped to my feet and my heart started pounding.

It was from Douche-Bag Scott!

Are you freakin’ kidding me?

His message was this: “Sorry I disappeared on you. I promised I wouldn’t and I’m sorry. I just didn’t know what to say. Anyway, good luck tomorrow.”

It was the straw that broke the camel’s back. I hadn’t cried over him. Didn’t think he was worth my tears. But when I called my mom (good news, she’s not mad at me anymore!) to tell her about it, I immediately burst into tears upon hearing her voice. She of course thought something was horribly wrong until I set her straight. She was flabbergasted. I didn’t know if I should even justify him with a reply. Did he deserve one? Certainly not. But do I want to be the better person? You betcha!

So after careful thought and consultation I replied back with this: “Thanks. I appreciate it.”

That’s all. No asking him why, no calling him, no wanting to talk it out or tell him how crappy he made me feel. I knew he wouldn’t answer or reply back to anything I said so instead of making myself crazy I let it lie.

I took the freakin’ high road. And I feel pretty good about it.

But the rage I felt when I read the message? If the race would have been last night I’m fairly sure I would have crushed the time I dreamt I got earlier this week (2:06). My heart was still pounding a bit last night at 11pm when I was laying in bed, trying to sleep.

During the Half today, whenever I was needing some inspiration to run I thought about that stupid text and I ran off the rage! So, thanks Scott! Thanks for giving me some rage from which to pull out a pretty great PR.

That is 3 things from him this week. I’m spent. First the video, then the email from match that he’s a good match for me, then this. Oy. I hope that’s all over with.

I will recap the rest of the race later. For now, I nap. 🙂

Thank you for all your comments and likes! I’m so happy and proud! Life is good.

Happy Sunday friends!
