I did my Race Epic this morning. I decided to do a 10 mile run for my race and I knew I wouldn’t want to do it after work! So I got up early, and banged it out on the treadmill!
Here are the stats:
first 8 miles 10:42/mile
Mile 9: 10:00/mile
Mile 10: 9:22/mile
Great run! Who would have ever thought just a few years ago that I would willingly get up at 5am to run 10 miles?! Certainly not me! ๐
Now I’m going to hit the shower and get ready for work!
Have a great day friends!
I’m not usually much of one for recaps. I’ve written a few race recaps, and made an attempt at writing one about running the Chicago Marathon, but didn’t get very far on it. Not sure why. I don’t even like doing Top Story recaps for my 5pm newscasts. (that drives my News Director Crazy, BTW!)ย
So, true to form, I’m not going to recap my year, but I do want to highlight the awesome.
In no particular order:
I turned 30 in March.ย And it was awesome. I used to dread that age, thinking that if I didn’t have a husband, house and kids, I would be a failure. I also thought that was so old. How wrong I have been! Its not old. And its so true, “what screws us up most in life is the picture in our head of how its supposed to be.” My life is pretty good. I have a great family, friends and co-workers. And when I did turn 30, something clicked in my head; I stopped caring what other people thought about me. I decided to live my life for me, and in the moment. What a freeing feeling that is! If wisdom comes with age, I’m going to embrace it!
I did a Warrior Dash.ย I went completely out of my comfort zone here. I don’t like to get dirty, and I always claim that I have no upper body strength. But I got in the mud and I did ALL of the obstacles. It was awesome.
I flew an airplane! Twice!! I have wanted to pilot a plane for a long time, and I bought a groupon and made it happen. If the cost wasn’t so prohibitive, I would consider getting my private pilot’s license. I LOVED it!!
I ran my 2nd Lincoln Half-Marathon.ย This time I ran it with the internet. I PR’d by more than 9 minutes and had a blast. Great race. Good times.
I ran my first (and perhaps only) Full Marathon in Chicago. The internet was awesome. I loved the vacation and loved running a Full Marathon. It was hard, training sucked sometimes, but I did it, and accomplished my goal of around 5:30 hours. (I did it in 5:33:03).ย
I ran other smaller races throughout the year, including my race-iversaryย and the coldest 5k I’ve ever run!!ย
I’ve met some incredibly wonderful people and had some very trying times in my life and family. I gained another nephew in September and dated a guy, went on vacation with him, and had the relationship fizzle out, all in the span of 4 months.ย
What will 2013 hold? At least 2 more Half-Marathons, maybe more! ๐ And hopefully many more good things.ย

904 miles (and counting) for the year! I made my goal with 3 days to spare! Yeeeesssss!
I am so proud of myself. This commitment was hard. It was like a training schedule for a race, but there was no medal at the end; just the satisfaction of reaching my goal. And knowing I did it is a pretty awesome feeling.
And today’s run was hard. My legs felt tired and I had to fight for each mile. But I did it!
New goal for this year is 920 miles. I thinks it’s doable. I’ve got 3 whole more days to run! ๐
Happy Friday friends!
I’m seriously contemplating doing the Hal Higdon Advanced Half Marathon training Program for this year’s Lincoln Half-Marathon. This year marks my 3rd consecutive Lincoln Half, and then 2 weeks later I’m running the Fargo Half with Brooke. The program looks intensive and busy, but I did the intermediate last year and I got faster, so I know that doing speed and hill work while adding another day of running would just mean that I would turn into an even better runner. I like challenging myself physically. And now that I’ve run a Full Marathon, the half seems like no big deal! ๐
Monday marks 18 weeks until the Lincoln Half. With that time frame I’m kicking myself that I didn’t sign up for the Full. I legitimately like training for races. I must be insane.
I’m guessing I will do it. Its a 12 week program like all the others, so stay tuned for a decision on that one.
In other news, I’m thisclose to my 900 miles for the year goal.ย I ran 3 last night, and then drug my butt out of bed this morning for 7 more. I have 2 more to go until I hit that magic number!! It seems so easy now. Just 2 miles. Depending on how I feel, I might run them tonight after work, or in the morning. I’m now trying to hit 920 for the year. But 900 is still the goal, everything else is just gravy. ๐
Have a great day friends!

Best Christmas present Ever! My mom rocks. Hope you all had a fantastic Christmas friends!
I’m in.
Come run it with the Lincoln tumblrs! It’s fast and flat, and you can stay with me, and afterward, we go out on the town to celebrate cinco de mayo!
It’ll be fun!
I was so glad he stopped! We got 6 inches of snow and it was the heavy, wet kind. I had finished a 6 mile run and decided to head out and clear the driveway and sidewalks for tonight’s End of the World Party when he stopped by. I had cleared the sidewalk and one lane in the driveway when he started helping me. It still took me an hour to help him and then clean off my car. Soooo glad he came by! Gotta love living in Nebraska! People still stop and help each other out.
In other news, any day where I can wear my running clothes most of the day is a winner in my book. When layering up for the shoveling this morning I switched my running capri’s for running tights and changed my short sleeve shirt for a long sleeved one, and then added jeans and a sweatshirt over that. I was nice and warm. Yeah buddy.
After some help, (thanks Melissa!) I’ve decided to wear jeans, a cute top and either boots or a cute pair of shoes tonight. It’s not quite time for a sparkly dress. Maybe new years?
Registration for the Lincoln Half Marathon is tonight at 12:01am. You better believe I have set an alarm on my phone so I can go register quick during the party! Hey! There’s only 8,000 spots and they will go fast!
Have a great night friends, and party like there’s no to-maya! ๐
This run was fun! It was soooo cold! 32 degrees the entire race. It was cloudy and a wee bit windy. There were 5,000 runners and it wasn’t timed at all. we got Santa Hats and a pretty sweet pint glass for our efforts. And 2 free Sam Adams Winter Lager beers, but I don’t like beer, (blasphemy, I know! being a runner and all!)
My friend Rachael and I decided to run together and just get done because it was cold and we wanted to go eat breakfast somewhere afterwards. Omaha, especially downtown Omaha is fairly hilly, it’s right near the Missouri river. So we ran until there was a pretty nasty hill, which we walked up, and then ran the rest of the race. The upside to all the hills? The downhill! We were booking it for the last 2 miles. I wore my garmin, just to see where we were at, and we ended up PR’ing the race! My first sub-30 5k outside and for a race! 29:52! We were consistently running a 8:52 pace for the last 2 miles too! I was having a great run–once my feet thawed out!
I don’t usually like to run outside when its that cold, but maybe I should. This run was FANTASTIC!! My breathing was great and I just kept wanting to run faster. Maybe all that speed work on the treadmill is helping! ๐
We came home and I took a super warm long shower and headed out to finish my Christmas shopping. I only have a little left online and then I’m done!
I call this day a success.
Now I finish shopping, watch some Christmas movies and enjoy my night!
Have a great one friends!
EDIT: It also started SNOWING at the end of the run! Talk about timing. Put me in the Christmas spirit!

Ugly sweater 5k run! My friend Rachael and I took a family portrait in front of the fire place. This race is a good time!
