“Don’t get too high about your good runs or too down about your bad runs”

Today’s run sucked. I had 4.5 miles on the schedule, was going to do my 9 mile long run instead, and ended up with 3.1.

Ugh.

My stomach hurt pretty much from the get-go. I couldn’t get my breathing regulated and I felt like crap pretty much the whole run.

But they can’t all be good runs, right?

So, as I was thinking about that, this quote came to mind. I don’t know who said it, but I know that its just what I need to hear. Yesterday’s run was awesome.  I did speed work and ran 8 X 400 meters at a 9:22 pace. I was flying. I felt alive and so happy. And I was on the treadmill.

Today? Today was terrible. My pace was decent–when I could run. About a 10:00/mile. But I had to walk so much I ended up with a 12:27 pace.

The thing that irritates me the most is that the weather is PERFECT for a run. 68 degrees, not a cloud in the sky, sunny, pretty windy, but otherwise gorgeous. I ran in shorts and a t-shirt. In the middle of March. In Nebraska. That was fantastic!

Tomorrow its suppose to rain, but I think I may try for my 9 miles outside anyway. I don’t think I can handle the treadmill for nearly 2 hours! 🙂

Happy Saturday friends!

I’ve been MIA lately…

This week my life has gotten crazy! As you may know, I’m a TV News Producer. This means I write the news that the anchors read on the air. I’ve been the Senior Producer at my station for 5 or so years now. I write the 5pm newscast. This week, they decided to expand our morning show to 2 hours and move our morning/midday producer to work the overnights, and I was moved up to produce the midday and 5pm. I come in earlier and leave earlier, which is nice. But every morning this week when I come into work I hit the ground running. No time to ease into the day. Just GO!

Its going ok, but I’m exhausted. Add to that, I’m in the middle of week 7 of training for the Lincoln Half-Marathon. And I’m a morning runner, so this means my alarm goes off at 5:30am so I can be out the door or on the treadmill by 6am. The end result? I fall into bed at 9pm.

On the plus side? I sleep really, really well! Deep sleeps with super interesting dreams! So that’s fun. 🙂

I promise to be a better blogger! I enjoy the camaraderie that comes from this community and appreciate that you all care about me as much as I care about you too!

Have a great day Friends! 🙂

Spring Fever!

It is 65 degrees in Lincoln right now…on track to hit 75 today.

All I want to do is go outside and run.

Or twirl.

Yeah, maybe I’ll go twirl. 🙂  But this would probably happen.

In other news, my TV station periodically gets tickets to shows and musicals and my TV Station GM gave me tickets to go see Boyz II Men in April. I am ridiculously excited about this!

Anyway, have a great day friends!

“Where the wind comes whipping down the plains…”

I’m not in Oklahoma. I’m in Nebraska. But we have some pretty amazing winds here too, so I felt like quoting the song!

Today’s weather would have been perfect for running, minus the crazy winds that were blowing outside. But I had a 10k on the schedule, and I was not about to run it on a treadmill when it was so nice outside!

Today’s long run, by the numbers:

6.2-Miles ran

59-Degrees outside

40-Mile per hour wind gusts.

8:00-My best pace, according to my Garmin. When I had the wind at my back, I was booking it. I averaged a 9:40 pace then!

11:17-my average pace for the run. I had to walk some when I felt like the wind was going to blow me over. So I consider this pace a victory!

Well, I’m off to relax to and catch up with my DVR. I have to say the amazingness that I have seen across my dashboard was an inspiration to me today! You all rock!

Have a good Sunday friends! 🙂

Today’s 8 Mile Run, By the Numbers:

55-Degrees outside. PERFECT running weather!

14-Dogs I saw being walked on the trail.

8-Miles I ran.

5-Bike riders

4-Random teenage boys who “Whoo-hoo’ed” at me as I ran by.

3-Honks from 1 car full of three 20-something-year-old dudes. (thanks guys!) 🙂

3-Other runners on the trail.

And countless other walkers enjoying the gorgeous weather!

Enjoy your Sunday Friends! 🙂

I went to see my Cardiologist today…

It was time for my yearly heart echo to make sure that my bicuspid aortic valve is still doing well.

I’m good to go! He gave me clearance to run all of my races this year. Said I’m doing well, and that nothing has changed since my last Echo in Nov. 2010. He said it most likely wouldn’t change for another 10 years, if I keep up the healthy habits. More incentive to keep running and training I suppose!

Its always nice to know that your body is working properly!

Happy Monday friends!

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.

Healthy Hearts 5k Run

It was 11 degrees with wind chills below zero for this run today. I half hoped they would cancel it. But no, it was on! I dressed in many layers and we were off! I hoped to PR this race, I have been doing speed work the last 3 weeks during my Half-marathon training and I hoped it would help.

Ooh boy! Did it ever!

I ran the first mile at a 9:45 pace, my best pace was a 6:57 minute pace! Who is this girl? The one that can run pretty fast? Whoever she is, I like her! 🙂

I ended up PRing–32:50. 10:23pace. I even had to walk a bit because the bitter cold was making my lungs and throat hurt. So this race gives me great hope for what I can accomplish in the next 3 months before the half, and the months leading up to the Chicago full.

Cold weather running is kind of gross: my scarf was soaked from my breathing and my left eye was watering so much it looked like I was crying.

When you consider that I ran my very first 5k in 39:17, this seems pretty incredible!

Have a fantastic weekend friends!

I’m running a 5k tomorrow…

and it’s going to be 14 degrees! Why did I sign up for this? Oh, because my half-marathon training schedule called for a 5k this weekend and there happened to be one tomorrow! Maybe I will run really fast?

In other news I had to call in sick to work today because while I was in the shower I got a migraine. For my fellow migraine sufferers out there, I get a migraine with an aura, which means that before I get the headache I see a visual disturbance. Usually bright, zig-zag lines. And when I look at things I can only see half of it . Its a little freaky. I take medicine everyday to prevent them and haven’t had one in over a year, so I guess I was due for one. But when I get them I am done for the day. I have to go back to bed and wear an eye mask and sleep off the headache that follows the aura. It sucks and means a wasted day. Luckily today was a rest day anyway!

Have a great weekend friends! Stay warm!
