Holiday 5k, meetups, pancakes and running tights

Today was the Holiday 5k to benefit the Capital Humane Society. It was an un-timed race, which made it the perfect race to meet my new friends Lindsay and Holli from the Tumblr-universe. They are great girls and I’m super excited to have some new friends to hang out. Especially ones that don’t mind me talking about running all the time! 🙂

After the run, my parents and I went to I-Hop for brunch. I had their holiday pancakes with zero regret. They are delicious!

I wore my new running tights for the 5k, and since we were going out to eat right afterwards I didn’t have a chance to change clothes. I know I was over-reacting a bit, but I felt like everyone was staring at me! These are legit running tights–the tightest pants I’ve ever worn in public and left NOTHING to the imagination. Oh well, I’ve worked hard for this body, right?!

I told my mom I thought some dude was staring at my pants. She laughed and said he was staring at what was in those pants. I blushed bright red. My tushie was on display here people!

After brunch, we hit a few stores to shop for Christmas presents for my nephews. I gradually got more comfortable and forgot I was just wearing running tights. NSV? Whatevs. Today was a good day! I hope you all had one as well!

Whoops!

I went Christmas shopping today. Correction. I attempted to go Christmas shopping today. Apparently, someone needs to remind me that this season is about giving gifts to others, not myself. Because I bought myself 3 new sweaters, 2 new pairs of tights a new bra, and some warmer running socks. In my defense, I did buy one Christmas present for one of my friends. So there’s that.

However, I went to Loft. I am addicted to this store. Seriously. I love love love it. They were having a sale. 30% off your purchase. If you spent over $100 then you got 40% off. I also had a card that gave me $25 bucks off if I spent $50. And I signed up for their credit card, which gave me 15% off on top of that. Because, let’s be honest, I shop there a lot and I can use the rewards you get. So my total before discounts was $248. I was freaking out inside! I hoped I had done the mental math right! Grand total with all my discounts? $90. For 3 sweaters, 2 pairs of tights and a Christmas present. Not too shabby. I saved nearly $160!! I call that good shopping. Sorry I’m not sorry. I need new clothes too. My winter clothes from last year are too big.

Tomorrow is the Big Nebraska Tumblr Meetup! I’m super excited to get to meet LindsayDoesLife and CupcakesandChaucer!

Winter hit Nebraska today. It snowed about 4 inches I would guess. Our Holiday 5k course is in a park on the cross country trail. I had planned on getting new running shoes either this month or next, before I started training for the Lincoln Half-Marathon in May, but I think I’m going to need the new shoes sooner rather than later!

Temps are expected to be around 30 when we run. I don’t usually do cold weather running, so this could be exciting!

For now, I’m going to enjoy a little football and relax before the big run!

Have a great night friends!

Lincoln Half-Marathon

Registration opened today. The race is May 6th. The site said the registration opened at 10am…I was registered by 10:45am! So Excited to run my 2nd Half-Marathon! They only let 10,000 people run it, so CupcakesandChaucer and LindsayDoesLife, lets do this together!

Its supposed to snow Saturday. My meteorologists at work say the models say 4-8 inches are possible. I’m running a 5k on Sunday with Cupcakes. I haven’t really done any snow running, so this could be fun!

Who would have thought just a few years ago that I would be so excited to spend $60 to run 13.1 miles in May? I can’t wait! 🙂

Have a good day friends!

Tuesday Thoughts

Bullet point style:

  • I got up and ran this morning, a 5k before work. I ran the 1.5 miles at a 9:31 pace, then I had to slow down and I ran the next mile at 10:45 pace. The Last .60 miles I ran at a 10:00/mile pace. My average was about a 10:06 ish/mile. It was great! I did a 5k in 31:23! My first 5k I ever did my time was 39:22. I feel awesome!
  • This is the only full week I work in the month of December. I have a follow up doctor’s appt next Wednesday so I’m off then. Then I have 7 vacation days that I had to use or lose this month. So I’m taking a lot of 4 day weekends and I am off 5 days at Christmas! I’m so excited!
  • I have a Groupon for a facial and another one for a massage. I’m going to schedule those for the same day on one of those off days and pamper myself. I think I deserve it!
  • I haven’t had an extra day off since I took a week of vacation in August. I think I need it! 🙂
  • I’ve got some ideas of things I want to write about. But I just don’t have the time to sit down and write. I need to make the time.

Have a good day friends!

Turkey Trot on the Treadmill

I’m working today. The news doesn’t stop for holidays, and even though I’m management, I still have to work some holidays. So even though my town had a Turkey Trot this morning, I wasn’t able to attend. I decided to run my own version. The weather is gorgeous here, but the sun doesn’t come up until 7am. And I dislike running outside when its dark out. I don’t have a headlamp…maybe I need to look into one.

So I planned to do a 5k outside. But then I woke up late, and figured I should just quickly pound out a mile on the treadmill. So I decided that if I didn’t have time to run a lot, I would run fast. So I ran a mile at 9:13 pace. This is huge for me! I haven’t run that fast for that long in awhile! It felt good. So even though it wasn’t a 5k, it was still something.

I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving! Enjoy your time with friends and family.

Today is a good day

There are some days when you wake up and just know its going to be a good day. Today was one of those days.

After a breakfast of pancakes and eggs I watched the Nebraska-Penn St. game with my family. Its been a week of scandal and off the field drama at Penn St. But my Huskers persevered and won the game 17-14! (It came down to the last second!!)

After that, I set off on a run, outdoors style. Its been awhile since I’ve run outside. 3 weeks to be exact. That run sucked. I couldn’t get the breathing and running to get in sync. Today’s run?

Fan-freakin’-tastic!

I wanted 5 miles, hoped for a 5k but would settle for 4 miles. I was not trying to set any land-speed records today. I just wanted to get back out there and run. And I did. My pace was all over the place, 12:20ish to 9:55 before I finally settled in at a 10:45 pace. I took walk breaks. I didn’t beat myself up for them. Instead, I just enjoyed the run.

At the point where I can turn off for a 5k or can keep going for 4-5 miles, I was so close to turning. But, then I thought about everyone who was running a half-marathon today. And all the people who can’t run, for whatever reason. And I kept going. I tackled the two big hills on the route and decided that 4 miles would be enough for the girl who had barely run in 4 weeks.

I felt alive! What a good run, an amazing run. Time to think, clear my mind and just enjoy the world around me.

I was deep in thought and concentrating on my music when a car full of teenage boys drove past me, yelling “whoo-hoo!” out the window at me. I actually jumped! Made me feel good though! You don’t get that on the treadmill, do you?!

And, as I have told you in the past, my back has been bothering me for months! Today? No pain! It was wonderful!

Tonight, I am hanging out with one of my best friends, Candace. I haven’t seen her in awhile, so it is much needed girl time. She always knows how to help me put things in perspective.

Anywho, I hope you all have a wonderful weekend friends!

Random thoughts on a Wednesday

Bullet Point style…

  • Ever since I lost weight, I am now cold all.the.time. Seriously. Even in the summer. Especially in air conditioning. We have a lot of expensive computers and equipment running 24/7 here at the TV station and so the AC is running all year round. So I am constantly bundled up in a fleece jacket. Even when its 100 degrees outside. Even when I’m already wearing a sweater and pants and boots because its cold outside. I have a hard time staying warm.
  • Last night I couldn’t get warm. My hands and feet were sooo cold. I had to add another blanket to my bed. I woke up at 3am sweating. Maybe I’m getting sick?
  • I ran this morning. Only a measly 1.25 miles. I woke up late and my back and hips hurt but I did something. That counts, right?
  • My work has already hauled out some Christmas Decorations. Seriously people? It’s November 9th! Can we wait until Thanksgiving is over?
  • Confession: I dreamt about some of you people from Tumblr last night. It was odd. LindsayDoesLife was there…so was WestCoastRunner…as well as mr-smit and x-opher.  And before you get any weird ideas, there was nothing sexual about these dreams. I think we were all just hanging out. But I think this signals I spend too much time on here before I go to bed! 🙂

Well, I hope you all have a great day friends!

I think I’ve lost my running Mojo…

I don’t know what’s wrong with me. My desire to run has pretty much dwindled down to zero. I don’t want to do it. I can’t find the willpower to force myself out of bed in the morning. I could blame it on the cold mornings. I could blame it on meeting A. I could blame it on a lot of things. But the sad truth is, is that I don’t think there is any one reason for it. I think I just need a break. And I have come to the realization that it is okay for me to take one. I ran 2 measly miles this week. I am going to attempt to run a 5k tomorrow. That will put me at 500 miles for the year. I didn’t get up and run this morning, and tonight I am seeing A, so I know I won’t be running then! 🙂

Maybe I’ve just gotten out of the habit. I don’t know either way, but I know I need to get back on the horse and get back at it.

Maybe tomorrow?! 🙂

I hope I’m not the only person that has felt this way. Maybe I need to find a race to register for and run. Because really, the only one I know for sure I am doing is the Lincoln Half Marathon in May. And I don’t start training for that until January….

Maybe the Holiday 5k? We shall see.

Anyway…happy Friday friends!
