You guys rock

Seriously. I feel the love! I appreciate all your kind words and comments. It means a lot to me.

I’ve had some weird days lately. Last Thursday, when I got into work, I had to scoot out the door, heading west on the Interstate to rendezvous with one of my reporters. She was driving one of our TV station’s car’s out to another city, about 2 hours away, when the transmission died. She was stuck on the side of the road, and needed to get to her story. So I took a working car, and gave her that car, then sat with the dead car while someone else came to get me. Then, when I got back to work, I found a garter snake in the bathroom! I didn’t scream, just calmly told my boss about it, and they took care of it! But eewww! gross! Then, I met Snow White and Dopey. They were in town for a performance of Disney Live! and they were on our midday forum. So I got my picture taken with them!

Yesterday, as I was driving on the highway, I saw a hitchhiker. Today, I got to hold the cutest little dachshund puppy! He was so precious! (My parents have two dachsies!)

I got up and ran this morning. It sucked, but was good to get back into my routine. I saw on spider on the wall near the treadmill. I screamed a few times…as it was too close for comfort! I hate spiders! eeeewwwww..

Tonight, A & I have a date. I’m excited to see him!

Happy Wednesday friends!

“Getting To Know You…”

After my influx of new followers, I feel like I owe you all a little back story about me. You can find most of this in the My story section of my blog, and for before and after pictures, just go here. But I want to get to know you all, so here’s a little about me.

I started losing weight in June of 2005. When I gained the courage to finally step on a scale, it said I weighed 295 pounds. My initial goal was to lose 100 lbs. I didn’t know if I could ever get there, but I wanted to.

At my heaviest I wore a size 22/24. Shirts were mostly size XL with some 2XL’s thrown in there. I was unhappy with my life and how I looked.

I can clearly remember the day that kicked off my weight loss; I was eating a juicy cheeseburger and fries at work, and my former co-worker Tim walked in and said, “Why are you eating that crap?” It was like a slap in the face. I don’t think I had an answer for him, but I do know that at that specific moment I set in motion changes for my life that I still follow today.

As of October 3, 2011 I have lost half of my starting weight. I have lost 147.5 pounds. The same number that I currently weigh. I went from a size 22/24 to a size 8, in somethings I am even a size 6! I used to wear 2xl shirts, now I wear a XS or S shirt. I never thought I could get to this point. But here I am! And what a ride it has been!

Everyday, people ask me how I did it. How did I lose such a significant amount of weight? They hold their breath, waiting for me to spill a secret about a special drug or a new surgery. But I didn’t do any of those things. It is simple: to lose weight you have to eat less and move more. It isn’t easy, but its so worth it.

The first month that I started eating less I had a wicked heartburn. I took tums every night. Now my stomach has shrunk, and I don’t produce as much stomach acid, so no more heartburn!

Recently, I told my mom that I had an epiphany: for me, food isn’t “fun” anymore, its just fuel. When I say “fun” I mean, I don’t get all excited to eat cookies and ice cream and treats, or go eat at a specific restaurant to eat a “bad” food. Food is there to fuel my body so that I can run a half-marathon. Its there to keep me going, not make me happy!

I hope this helps someone!

Have a great day friends!

I’m overwhelmed!

I woke up this morning and checked my tumblr and wondered where all these new followers had come from. Then I caught up on my dashboard and found it.  I sit here, with tears in my eyes, trying to figure out how to say thank you. LindsayDoesLife, I am humbled and honored by your recommendation! I look to each and every one of you as inspiration in my journey! I will try to live up to the recommendation!

The road to losing 147.5 pounds has not been an easy one. I have hit some bumps in the road along the way, but the key is to always persevere. I hope I can make a difference in someones life along the way!

Thank you friends!

Have a great day!

I Freakin’ DID it!!!!!!!!!

As of today, October 3rd, 2011, I have OFFICIALLY REACHED MY GOAL WEIGHT!!!!!!!!! I now weigh 147.5 pounds! People, this is HALF MY STARTING BODY WEIGHT!!!! I have lost 147.5 pounds.

When I started this journey in June of 2005, I just wanted to lose weight. Sure, my goal was to lose 100 pounds, but I never imagined that I could get there, let alone lose 47.5 more!

When I started I couldn’t run for more than 30 seconds, my thighs rubbed together, I was out of breath, and ridiculously out of shape. Today, I stand before you weighing 147.5 pounds, having lost the exact same amount that I currently weigh. I have run 5k’s, 10k’s and a Half-Marathon! I get up and run in the dark because I want to, not because I have to. What an amazing change.

Before I took control of my life I thought I was happy with how my life was going. But I realize that I was just coasting through. I didn’t date, I had lots of friends though, even some pretty great guy friends. I filled that unhappiness with food. But now, having reached my goal, I know that food isn’t there to fill the empty places inside that nothing can every really fill until you are happy with yourself. What a wake up call.

So I look at myself and say now what? What is my next goal? When you feel like you have everything, what else do you really need?

Today is awesome!

Happy Monday Friends! 🙂

I’ve been MIA

So sorry! Things have been happening in my life recently, and like Kimijoy said…sometimes you just want to savor it and not share it with the world. So, when the time is right, I will share. I promise.

Back to our regularly scheduled programming… I had the worst run in the world today. 5 miles on the schedule…only 2.5 completed. They sucked. And I did not have a good run. Oh well, they can’t all be good runs right?

Anywho, I am all over the map today. I have a meeting to talk about the Forum panel that I’m a part of next month. I hope I can focus on that. I can barely focus on my job. And let’s be honest. That’s not really even happening right now!

Busy, busy

Can I have a weekend from my weekend?  It was a good weekend, all in all. Friday night after my movie date with myself I went out with some of my friends. We ended up having a good time. When we got to the bar, my friend R and I were standing waiting for our other friend to get money out of the ATM when I saw 2 olderish guys (late 30’s?) approaching us. They both touched me on the arms, and told us that they thought we looked “fun.” And that they thought we were fun. When the guy asked who was the more fun one, I told him R was. Because upon closer inspection these guys were closer to 50 than 30. We told them we were going to meet our friends, and they said that they “would watch us.” Kinda creepy.

Friday night was fun, got to see a friend I haven’t seen for awhile and meet her new bf. Then Saturday I got up and went for a run. Nothing big, just a good run. Then I went to work and produced our Husker post game show. I was out by 7pm.

Sunday was AWESOME! I went to see the Broadway musical “Jersey Boys”. It was AMAZING!!!! I didn’t want it to be over! So good. We had fabulous seats too: they covered the orchestra pit and put 2 rows there, and we were in the second row on the orchestra pit. We could see the sweat run down their faces! Such a good show! Also, on the way up to Omaha for the show, I got a 45 minute nap in. The last time I took a nap was January of 2010 when I came home from Hawaii and fell asleep in the car on the way home from the airport. It was the best nap ever! I felt so refreshed afterwards.

So next week, the Nebraska-Wisconsin game is on ABC, 7pm telecast. I’m guessing its a national broadcast. I get to work that day too.

I got up this morning and went for a run. Sadly, it was too dark for me to feel comfortable running outside, so I treadmill-ed it. 3.25 miles, 10:54 pace. Not too shabby. It was a pretty great run. One of those where everything is working in concert. I was happy. Good way to start the day!

Anywho, have a great day friends!

Scenes from a busy weekend.

I got up early on Saturday and went on a run. I have learned my lesson: I can’t eat much before running. I fought a stomach cramp most of the run. It was not pretty. That afternoon I went tailgating with friends before the Husker game! We had a good time. I’m pictured with a co-worker and his old roomie. They are ridiculously buff! I went to the game with another friend. We had a good time. Sunday, Lincoln had an airshow featuring the Blue Angels. I took my parents, as my dad loves history, especially world war II history. We had fun. My TV station gave us VIP passes and so we got to go to the VIP tent, had awesome parking and free food. On the downside, I ended up getting a pretty wicked sunburn, despite putting on sunscreen. My arms, neck and legs are so sore!

Hope you all have a great week!

I need (g)love(s)!

So its been one of those weeks. The kind that get away from you and when you blink all of the sudden its Friday afternoon. Whew.

I’m really glad its Friday. And with that, I give you my random musings from the past week:

  • Fall arrived early to Nebraska. However, summer may be making a one day comeback next week. On my runs this week my wardrobe changed from a t-shirt and shorts to capri’s and long sleeves. Either a jacket or a long sleeved running shirt. And I was still a little chilly. 48 degrees at 6:30am is a little cool when one is used to 65-70 degrees.
  • I couldn’t find my gloves for most of the week. I unearthed them last night. (they were with my running hats and such. Good place for ‘em.) Today’s run was muuuch better. My hands weren’t bright red and sooo cold.
  • The sun does not come up until 7am. So as I run out the door at 6:30 it is still a little bit dark. Street lights are still on. Its kind of cool to see the sun come up.
  • I dressed like a cat burglar on my morning run today. It was unintentional. My one and only long sleeved running shirt is black with some purple and I wore black capri’s with a purple stripe to match! (You have to match, right?!) I got some weird looks from the few people who were up early as I was running through town. I think they thought I had stolen some stuff. I will post a picture.
  • I was irritated about something today and my male boss kept telling me to “let it go.” And “its not cancer.” You know what? I know that, but I am allowed to be irritated and there is nofaster way to rile me up than to tell me to let some go. My blood pressure is rising just thinking about that. Grr.
  • I have a 3 day weekend. I have to work Saturday for the Husker game, so I am taking Monday off. A much needed mini vacay
  • Well, that’s all I got for today. It’s been a long week.

Have a good weekend friends!

It’s only 11am…

And I’ve already worked a full day. I volunteered to do the morning show so my AM/Midday producer could have the holiday off. It seemed like a good idea at the time. When I woke up at 2:15am it seemed like THE WORST IDEA EVER.

However, its a gorgeous here, I’m off at noon and go back to my regular 9:30-6:30 shift tomorrow. So its almost like having another day off. I plan on shopping because Ann Taylor Loft keeps emailing me and telling me their sale is ending TODAY, so I should head on over and check it out.

I also may head out for a run this afternoon. The weather here is gorgeous! It was 46 degrees when I left this morning, but 72 is forecasted for the high. Fall appears to be making an early appearance in Nebraska! I don’t mind, its perfect running weather!

So, as I labor on Labor day, I hope those of you who don’t have to, have a wonderful day!
