10K’s, Half-Marathon’s, and Fridays!

I have a 10k run on Sunday that I’m not quite sure I’m ready for. I haven’t run more than 5 miles since my half-marathon on May 1st. However, once I get past the first few miles, I always feel like I can run forever. So I’m hoping that will help me!

I’m still debating if I want to run the Omaha Half-Marathon. It’s September 25th. Just about 100 days away according to Lindsay from Lindsay Does Life, its only 99 days away! The timing is not the best, but I love running and training for half-marathons…so we shall see. That may win over timing issues!

It’s Friday! I’m excited for the weekend and relaxing! Have a great day!

5K Run For The Homeless

Today I ran a 5k run for the homeless to benefit the People’s City Mission. My whole family did it! There was a 1 mile walk…so my mom, dad, brother and 2 little nephews did that, while my sister in law and I did the 5k. It was my first race since the half-marathon, and I was a little nervous!

But I totally PR’d!

I ran it in 33:23! When I ran my first 5k in October, I had to walk a lot of it, and I finished it in 39:15. My 5k split time from the half-marathon was 37:22. I shaved nearly 4 minutes off that just over a month later! What a great feeling! And I ran the whole thing! Its only my 3rd race, but in the first 2 I had to walk in both of them, so it was a great feeling to run the whole thing, even though there were a lot more hills than I expected! All in all, a pretty great day! I’m aiming to get up early before Church and run 4-5 miles. We’ll see if I can make it! I’m so tired already!

Have a great weekend!

5K Friday

I finally did it! Today’s 5k pushed me over the edge on my miles for the year…and I hit 300 miles! That’s since I began training for the half-marathon in January. A lot of blood, sweat and tears went into those miles. Today’s 5k time also may have been a new PR for a 5k. When I ran my first one back in October it was 39:15. My 5k split time in the half-marathon was 37:22–I was pacing for 13.1 miles, not trying to bust out a record time. But today, I got on the treadmill and just ran! It was way too muggy at 6:30am for me to feel like a run outside could be conquered.

I’m attempting the great outdoors again tomorrow though! I miss the wind, sun and nature! Tonight, my work friends and I are going out for drinks and good times! (Although I don’t really drink!) Water is good!

Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!

It’s National Running Day!

A few years ago there’s a good chance that I wouldn’t have cared about this day. I probably wouldn’t have even know it existed! What a difference a few years makes! I work at a TV station, and I kept pitching the day as a story idea! We didn’t do it, but it was out there!

I ran my miles this morning! Granted, it was only 2 (I really need to work on going to bed earlier so I can get up earlier!!) I woke up too late to do more than that. Tonight, I’m hitting the movies with a friend.  Something Borrowed is pretty much the ultimate chick flick. However, we both the read the book of the same name that it was based on, so we have to see the flick! So I knew if I didn’t run this morning, I would feel so guilty for eating some junior mints! My fav movie treat!

Anywho…time to run! (Not literally!) I have to leave to make the film on time. Tomorrow its supposed to be hot…mid 90’s! So I am hopeful I will get a great outside run in before the heat of the day hits!

Have a great day!

An inner battle

Before I ran 3 miles this morning, I hadn’t run since Thursday. That’s a long time off in my world. I normally refuse to take more than 2 days in a row off. I think its the paranoid former overweight girl inside me freaking out. She knows that if she wants to stay in shape and thin, then she must keep exercising! (why am I talking about myself in the 3rd person?) But seriously, I worry sometimes that if I take more than a few days off then I will revert to my old habits: a couch potato who ate crappy food. I’ve haven’t been heavy for yearsnow. 6 years ago in June was when I began my weight loss journey. I know I keep promising photos. You will get them! I promise. The transformation has been fairly dramatic. But I know that I won’t go back…but inside my head, I can’t help but worry about it.

I am a morning runner. I simply won’t do it if I have to go workout after work. Its what works for me. But I have been exhausted these last few days, and so I haven’t run.

I wish I would have.

That feeling you get when you run…the endorphins…the breeze, the pounding of the pavement…knowing that you are doing something great for your body and your heart? I love that feeling. I don’t know why I ever think sleep is better than that feeling!

I aim to run everyday this week… I have a couple of races in a few days…so I need to get back into the groove!

Happy Tuesday!

The show must go on!

I am jealous of those with normal jobs that give them every holiday off…no matter what. Pretty much every year, I work Memorial Day, because the news stops for no holiday! Every year I think “its no biggie to work Memorial Day. I have no big plans.” And every year I kick myself when I have to go into work while a good portion of the country is sleeping in, chilling out, and just relaxing. Let’s be honest here. I don’t do it because I’m a good person. I do it for the cash. Since I’m salaried, I don’t get OT, so the only way I can bring in some extra money is to work a holiday and get paid for an extra day.

I only work from 9:30 to about 5:30, but still, I could be home! The weather today is epic! The pool is filling, the sun is shining and life is good! It was already 80 degrees when I got up at 8am! The humidity wasn’t as bad, but storms are brewing. Oh well!

I haven’t run since Thursday, and that was only a 2 mile run. I look at my running shoes and feel so guilty. I was very busy this weekend. And I was doing a lot of physical activity, so I shouldn’t feel so bad. But 4 days off without a run makes me a little crazy! I am going to run 2 miles at least tonight. And get back on the training wagon Tuesday. I have to! I have a 5k on the 11th and a 10k on the 19th! I haven’t run anything farther than 4 miles since last Sunday so I need to get it into gear.

Happy Memorial Day! And a big thank you to the troops!

It’s Friday!!!

The weather is not cooperating with my running plans. The last 2 mornings I have tried to run outside, only to open the door to torrential downpours. Seriously. We are making up for a 2 inch rain deficit today. It thunder-stormed like crazy last night. Normally, I’m all for a good storm. There is just something so cozy about about a good late spring thunderstorm.

However, now that I have discovered my love of running outside, this sucks. I made it on the treadmill yesterday morning for a 5k before work! (New PR on my time!) And then due to the loud cacophony from the thunderstorm, I couldn’t sleep. It was also super warm in my house, and when I am warm, I cannot sleep! So when I didn’t run this morning. I plan to run at least 3 miles tomorrow, and another 5-6 on Sunday. I haven’t done a run longer than 3 miles since my half-marathon on May 1st. And I have a 5k coming up June 11th and a 10k on June 19th, so I suppose I should get my butt in gear.

I’m going to see the newest “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie tonight! Love me some Johnny Depp! I also plan on consuming some Junior Mints! Mmmm. Delicious!

Happy Friday, enjoy the day!
