Tuesday morning coffee date!

  • I got up and ran this morning! Victory! 3 miles. I made the mistake of doing a leg circuit last night. Felt that in my quads this morning! Oof.
  • I woke up at 4:45am this morning and I couldn’t go back to sleep. I’m feeling ok now, but I’m sure I will be feeling it later. The wall be hit around 1pm I think.
  • I’m wearing my favorite running shirt! Just for you Becky!
  • I tried a new way to curl my hair this morning. Not sure how I feel about it. Looks pretty much the same as it usually does. Whatevs.
  • Someone reblogged my post about not crying while reading “The Fault In Our Stars” and said I am not human because I didn’t cry. I think Celeste and I have it right: Journalists cannot be fazed! 🙂 However, a lot of you didn’t cry while reading it either. So I’m in good company!
  • I bit the bullet and made a decision about the laptop situation. I bought a Chromebook. It was $242. I have Amazon Prime and I used my Discover Card and applied my rewards to it which made it $214 with free 2 day shipping! The Discover rewards is awesome-its a $1 to $1 match on Amazon so you don’t lose anything by using your rewards there.
  • I’m going to try this whole weight lifting and strength training thing this time around during Marathon training. Can’t hurt, right?
  • I’ve suddenly found myself committed to 4 Halfs this year! How great is that? Lincoln in May, Manitoba in June with Brooke, the Brownville, NE half on July 4th with Ginni and maybe someone else! 🙂 and the Omaha half in September with me, myself and I. Unless someone else wants to do it with me! I like that I have a year of races lined up. Good stuff.

Well, I should get back to work! Happy Tuesday Friends!

Scenes from today’s 11.6 mile run. I was shooting for a test half Marathon but again miscalculated the distance. I got quite warm and didn’t have any gels with me so when I started feeling like I was going to throw up around 10.5 miles I decided that just making it home would be enough.

When I run, I generally don’t stop to take pictures. However I had to get a picture of the grape hyacinths on the left. My parents have some in their flower garden and they’ve always meant spring was here to me. That and lilacs. I have so many good memories tied to those flowers that I had to get a picture.

On the right, I tried to zoom in to show you the sexy dried sweat on my face. Its quite warm here…72°, sunny and just a gentle breeze. Its fairly perfect. And as I ran through neighborhoods I smelled so many people’s grills. It was torture.

Also, a car-full of guys, (i can’t figure out their Ages) was honking and waving, and hollering at me. That was nice. But the guy who appeared to be taking my picture? That was strange. I was running and he was driving by with his phone out the window aimed at me. It followed me as i went by. So very odd.

After my glass of chocolate milk I’m going to hit the shower and have my own version of a grill out: I’m nuking a veggie burger!

An update on last nights date is coming, promise!

Happy Saturday friends!

Thursday things

  • Last night I got into it with the resident Bizzo at my work. The attacks became personal across a crowded newsroom. My boss wasn’t mad at me, but at her. And I learned something about myself: if that would have happened a few years ago, I would have cried either during it or after. Because anger used to turn to tears for me. But now? I’m older and wiser (HA!) and tears don’t come during fights.
  • The rage I felt during the argument fueled my run (she asked me what I do I all day, because a mistake was made that wasn’t my fault. Then she accused of me of copying and pasting the news!) Needless to say I was enraged.
  • I set out last night to run 5 miles. Since I moved, I miscalculated the distance and ended up running 7 miles instead. I think I needed it.
  • I also ended up running super fast. It’s amazing what anger will do for a run! On the route with the big hill I ended up running a 6:59/pace down the hill! I felt like I was flying!!
  • I was consistently running a sub 10:00/mile. I also ran a 8:45/mile. That is incredibly fast for me! Rage-fueled runs can be awesome. I even was running into a pretty good headwind and it started sprinkling a bit.
  • A car-full of teenage boys yelled “hey baby, can I have your number?” at me. Its always nice when that happens!
  • The Lincoln Half-Marathon is May 5th. I’m feeling pretty good about my training.

Have a good Thursday Friends! 🙂

Post-10 mile run picture.

It was 70°, sunny and quite windy. That spot on my forehead? You know what it is? Dried sweat!

I’m super sexy, I know. 😉

Maybe this is why I’m single?!
I did get honked at 3 times, so that was nice.

The day was perfect enough for me to run in just shorts and a t shirt. Earlier in the week I needed capris, gloves, a jacket and a headband. Picture perfect day.

Hope your Saturdays were wonderful friends!

Today’s run sucked

I had a 15K or 9.3 miles on the schedule. I ran 10 miles last Sunday, in warmer, more windy weather, so today’s run should have been easy.

No dice.

I fought for each step of each mile and and only made it 6.2 miles of the the 9.3 I was supposed to run. But that’s ok…that’s why I start training a few weeks early, so I have these crappy runs and can adjust for them. It just means the rest of my runs this week will be great runs, right?

I have also learned a valuable lesson; running on not enough sleep doesn’t work for me. And don’t try to do a long run the day after I do hill work. My quads were screaming at me the entire time.

It was not a good run.

And something very odd happened. I had stopped in the park to rest. My quads were killing me, I had a stitch in my side and I needed a break, so I rested about 5 minutes. There is a bathroom about 30 feet away from the bench I was on and I decided I was going to refill my water bottle if it was open, so I got up and ran over to it. During the entire time I was sitting there, no one had come over to the bathroom or in or out of it. So imagine how freaked out I was when I was running past one of the doors that was cracked open a bit and I saw a person standing there, staring at me through the crack! I let out a yelp and immediately took off flying! I didn’t look back, I just ran away as fast as I could! How freaky is that!?

On the plus side, the weather here is perfect! 80 degrees, low humidity, a breeze and no clouds in the sky. Just wall-to-wall blue skies and sunshine. Perfection.

In other news, I went to see The Hunger Games last night. I haven’t read the books and really have no desire to. The movie was decent. I didn’t really want to see it, but my friend did, so I went along.

I only work Monday and Tuesday this week. My mom and I are taking 3 days off for a long girls weekend. We are going to go shopping in Omaha, see some friends and just have a great, relaxing time. I’m super excited! It doesn’t hurt that our News consultant will be here those days to meet with people and try to make them better at their jobs, and I won’t have to meet with him! I’ve done that before. It doesn’t help! 🙂

So, I hope you all have a great week friends!

Today’s 8 Mile Run, By the Numbers:

55-Degrees outside. PERFECT running weather!

14-Dogs I saw being walked on the trail.

8-Miles I ran.

5-Bike riders

4-Random teenage boys who “Whoo-hoo’ed” at me as I ran by.

3-Honks from 1 car full of three 20-something-year-old dudes. (thanks guys!) 🙂

3-Other runners on the trail.

And countless other walkers enjoying the gorgeous weather!

Enjoy your Sunday Friends! 🙂

I have a toddler’s bedtime

But its marathon training time and I have to get my back x-ray’d tomorrow at 745am! Before that, I have 3 miles on the schedule. So I’m in bed at 930pm.

My lower back has been bothering me since August. The chiropractor kind of helped. But now, I can’t take it anymore. Doc said today we must x-ray first. I just want to feel better. It doesn’t hurt when I run, so that’s a bonus!

Have a good night friends!

I need a nap

My Christmas vacation screwed up my sleep schedule. I slept nearly everyday until 10am, and now 3 days back into the swing of things at work and I can’t haul my butt out of bed to get up and run. I haven’t run since my 5 miles on Monday. I want to run. I need to run. I love to run. I feel better when I run. But, here we are. I struggled with getting out of bed in the morning. And I know myself; I will not run after work. It just isn’t going to happen. So if I can’t do a morning run, then I do no run. It’s as simple as that.

I’m off tomorrow and Monday. Last vacation day of the year, and I get the “holiday” off on Monday. I’m going to try to get back into the rhythm of going to bed early and getting up early to run. Its the only way.

In other news, I’ve been talking to another guy on match. I told him I’m ready to meet him, so I’m trying to decide when to do that. This weekend is no go, thanks to the New Years Holiday, but I think early next week should be fine. He seems like a nice guy. So, we shall see.

I’ve also decided to call Nate after the holidays are over, if he doesn’t call first. We had a good time, he said he wanted to see me again, and I liked him. So I’m going to be proactive in my love life, and seize the day. You miss 100% of the shots you never take, right?

I’ve seen some people’s 2012 goals on my dashboard. My resolutions always used to be fitness related. Lose weight, exercise, eat better, etc. I’ve done that now, completely changing who I was before I lost 150 pounds to who I am now. So that’s not on the list. Last year, I resolved to stand up straighter, and have better posture. I’ve tried to work on that. This year? I don’t know. I have decided that one of my long term goals, to be accomplished in 2013, is going to be run a full marathon. And if I’m going to do it, I might as well do a destination marathon. I’ve settled on the Honolulu Marathon! Its held in December, and I can’t think of anywhere I’d rather go run 26.2 miles than Hawaii! 🙂 Now, I start saving my money.

I hope you all have a fantastic day friends!

Sooo….

…Training for the Lincoln Half-Marathon begins soon. I think I’m going to do the Hal Higdon Intermediate Training Program. I did the Novice one for my first half last year. I run enough that I think its time to move up to another level in my training. Here goes nothing! 🙂
