So…yeah…

I thought I could sneak that in there! You guys don’t miss a thing, do you??

So remember the man friend I told you about earlier this month? Well, things are good. Really good. I’m talking relationship/boyfriend/girlfriend-kind of good here. It just kind of happened. I’m incredibly happy about it too. He introduced me as his girlfriend to a couple of people and while that word would normally send me spiraling into freak out and run away mode, but this time was different. It felt good, felt right. We talked about it later and agreed that yes, we’re in a relationship, I’m his girlfriend, and he’s my boyfriend. And instead of being totally freaked out, I’m good with it. Progress, people! 🙂

I don’t know what the future holds, but right now, I’m happy. It’s not hard. I’m not stressed out about him or texts or things like that. It’s easy with him. And I think that’s how it should be. 🙂

Also, Brooke-I will send you so many pictures! You probably need your own wand too, right??!! You know I will drink a butterbeer for you!

Tuesday things:

  • Brooke has me drinking the Hanson’s kool-aid. (Fun fact: Kool-Aid was invented in Hastings, Nebraska by a man named Edwin Perkins!) But, since I’m too lazy to actually read the book and make a schedule for myself, I asked her to do it. And because she’s the most awesome, she did. My plan starts the week of New Year’s. With a fitting 3 mile run on the first day of the New Year. A good way to begin I think.
  • She mapped it all out so that I have no excuses. Crap. 🙂
  • Today is my Friday. I’m having a rough go of focusing. Get your head in the game Melissa.
  • I gained a bunch of new followers after this post. Welcome new friends! A little bit about me: I’m Melissa, I work for a non-profit that deals with Honors programs. I used to be in TV News for 10.5 years. I’ve run 10 Halfs and 1 Full Marathon. I have a crazy dating life and probably should write a book about the weird men I’ve gone out with. Tell me more about you! I won’t bite! 😉
  • Today’s OOTD. I really like stripes. I wear them a lot. Mint strips are one of my favorites though!
  • I got up and was on the treadmill at 5:15am for 2 miles this morning. AND I’m going to the gym after work for my weight lifting class. Two-A-Day FTW!
  • In other news, my 8-year-old nephew is texting* me now! It’s so fun! I love that kid. And, like a true man, he never replied to my last text message that I sent him, asking him a specific question. Apparently, texting mind games start early with some boys! 🙂

Talk soon friends!

*The 8 year old has a cell phone because he walks home from the bus stop each day and has to call my brother while he’s walking. Safety first!

Happy Birthday Brooke!

This girl you guys. I’ve often told her that she is my favo(u)rite. I’m so glad to know such an amazing, kind, wonderful, and just plain awesome person. (And an all-around B.A….A 4:43 Marathon? She’s a rockstar!) I adore this girl.

Who would have thought that these blogs would have introduced me to some of the most amazing people, and ones that I would call dear friends? Without this community I never would have met this spunky Canadian! 🙂

Chicago 2012, Fargo 2013, Manitoba 2014, Brownville 2014, and The Twin Cities 2014…Where will our adventures take us next? (can it be somewhere warm in the winter?) 😉

two-o-nine, I hope your day is filled with happy miles, Russell snuggles (and Andrew too!) poutine or cheese curds and maybe even a cupcake!

Happy Birthday Brooke! Much love across the miles.

In a text post, list ten books that have stayed with you in some way. Don’t take but a few minutes, and don’t think too hard — they don’t have to be the “right” or “great” works, just the ones that have touched you. Tag some friends and make sure you let your friends know you’ve tagged them.

Karla tagged me for this and I LOVE the idea! I’ve been a big reader my whole life. Here is my list:

  1. Jemima J- By Jane Green
  2. The Harry Potter Series -J.K. Rowling
  3. He Loves Lucy-Susan Donovan
  4. Fangirl -Rainbow Rowell
  5. Beautiful Ruins – Jess Walter
  6. Bitter is the New Black –  Jen Lancaster
  7. Born To Run Christopher McDougall
  8. Eleanor and Park – Rainbow Rowell
  9. The Bride Quartet By Nora Roberts
  10. Before I Fall – Lauren Oliver

These aren’t all of the ones, just the ones I could think of. Some good memories lie in each of those books!

I’m tagging xfitlibrarian, two-o-nine, becky-balances and davidsgoals

My Tribe is full of amazing people. If you didn’t know, I was lucky enough to have some of my favorite people come stay for the weekend at my house. (As I write this, Becky is still here!! Extended weekend, I’m a lucky girl!) Two of my amazing Lincoln Tumblrs were here this weekend as well. But they stayed at their houses! 🙂

  • We ran a race. It proved that Nebraska is NOT flat! It’s hilly, humid and kind of hot sometimes. (99 degrees Sunday, 105 degree heat index!)
  • There was snuggling with my favorite gals. There were fireworks. (no, not THAT kind! The kind that make it sound like we’re in a war zone!)
  • We ate burgers and brunch and froyo. We played Cards Against Humanity. We shimmied and tried on Cornhusker Corn Heads. We swam and lounged and wore bikinis and didn’t feel self conscious because we’ve worked darn hard for these bodies!
  • Brooke left. We were sad. So we shopped and took selfies.
  • And then Ginni left. And Becky and I went swimming at my mom and dad’s house because it was fires-of-hades hot outside.
  • Then Monday came. So Becky and I ran my 5k route through my hilly ‘hood. I went to work. And Becky worked from (my) home.
  • Then the skies looked like this. A swirling mix of angry skies and beautiful seas. The heavens opened up and we got a thunderstorm.
  • This girl leaves me tomorrow. How will I survive after they’re all gone?

These people. This weekend. Tumblr is the best.

A few final photos from the trip.

Pre-race garbage bags for warmth. Final selfie before Brooke dropped me at the airport. Sad Russell is sad. 😦

Me, at the airport in Minneapolis, waiting for my flight. I sent Brooke that sad selfie. My shirt says “Canuck at Heart”. True story.

When I left Grand Forks it was 76 degrees, breezy and no humidity. When I finally landed in Omaha at 11pm it was 84, humid and gross. The next morning at 7:15am I took a screenshot of the weather: 78 degrees that early in the morning? And a high of 97?! Crap. Brooke is not going to be a happy camper when she comes down for our next Half Marathon with the girls on the 4th of July!!! 🙂
