Scenes from a pretty perfect weekend.

A Saturday morning run, a haircut with a fun braided ‘do, time in the pool with my wonderful family, tennis and brunch with some of my favorite people, and a giant watermelon that yielded 6 containers when I cut it.

Monday, why do you have to interrupt my fun?

My current view.

After a busy day of church, running, grocery shopping, laundry, yoga, and more laundry, I’m treating myself to a little R & R before Monday comes and with it, my first day at my new job! (eeek!) I’m currently lounging in my backyard, reading magazines as the sun mixes with clouds. (BTW, autocorrect changed “clouds” to “vodka”. Not right now autocorrect, thanks though!)

Thanks for the kind words about the wedding post. That friend was NOT drunk…just pregnant! Maybe that hindered her judgment? Glad to know you are all on my side….and that some of you have experienced the same type of thing! (well, I’m not GLAD about that! But you know what I mean!)

It’s a Sunday-funday indeed.

Saturday morning happy place.

5 miles in warm and slightly humid temperatures. I forget how hot the sun is, even at 10am! It was a good run. Peaceful, until a dog scared me when it started barking at me from the backseat of the car it was driving by in! My heart started racing!

My sheets are in the laundry, I’m about to find some breakfast and make some banana bread and energy bars. A trip tho my favorite froyo place is also on tap before I head to Corky tonight.

Busy day, but I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Enjoy your Saturday friends!

A Jumble of thoughts

  • Dating is weird. Like it’s all, “Hey you, person I’ve just met, or know a little bit about. Let’s put our lips together, exchange saliva and put our tongues in each other’s mouths. And do other things.” (wink, wink). (Am I weird to think that this is weird? Maybe. Whatever. Dating IS strange.)
  • I’m dog-sitting for a few days. My parent’s mini dachshunds, Molly and Sophie are here. They are little princesses. And bark a lot. They also feel the need to sleep with me in my bed. For 7 & 10 pound dogs they take up a lot of space! We spooned all night long. My queen size bed felt very small.
  • But look how adorable they are!!!!

  • Corky Tonight. Let’s make some cash!
  • I have a 5th Date tomorrow night. 😉 Should be fun!
  • Good Morning America! has a promo with the song “Happy” We shot some footage to put in promos on our station of us doing happy dances. It’s fun. And slightly embarrassing. Maybe I’ll post it here if I’m not too horrified with my dance moves!
  • The weather is perfect for my 12 miles tomorrow. 60’s, sunny and slight breeze. Highs near 80 on Sunday, but crazy winds! Whatevs, nice weather is nice weather.
  • I’M ON VACATION NEXT WEEK! Well, Wednesday thru Friday. YAY!

Have a great weekend friends!!!

Weekend Update:

  • Life is a Marathon. Not a sprint. And this weekend was no exception. I worked nearly 5 hours at Corky Friday night…after a full day at the TV Station. So I worked from 8:45am to 11:15pm. Long Freakin’ day. Tips were good though!
  • I worked 2-11pm Saturday at Corky, and was on-call at the station. I ran 1 mile before work and was glad about it. I planned to run my long run (it’s a step-down week so it’s only a 10k this week) after I got off work at Corky on Sunday night.
  • I went to Church Sunday morning, hit the outlets with my bestie and then stopped by the grocery store for a few essentials before high-tailing it to Corky for another 4 hours last night.
  • I got home at 7 and could not face running 6.2 miles on the treadmill. I skipped my long run. I repeat. I skipped my long run. I just don’t know who I am anymore.
  • But it’s okay. I start my marathon training early so that I can have some cushion time. Also, I’m pretty well conditioned. I ran 8 miles last week. I think I’ll be okay. The Lincoln half is May 4th.
  • I worked about 20 hours in 3 days at Corky. I’d like another weekend please. Thankyouverymuch.
  • A woman saw my Canada mittens from Brooke while I was shopping at the outlet mall this weekend. She asked if I had been to the Olympics and talked about some snowboarder. I told her my dear friend sent me the mittens and I liked them because they were from her and warm. No, I have not been to Sochi. And no, I have no idea what you’re talking about. Sorry!
  • The above photo is not from this weekend. It’s from New Year’s Eve. But it’s of me and my bff’s dog, Ella. I like the pic. So you get to see it.

Happy Monday friends!

A Tale of One Weekend (Part Two)

If Friday was an episode of “This is your Life, Melissa.” Then Saturday and Sunday fully made up for it!

Saturday, I went to see “Monuments Men” with my parents. Great movie. I enjoyed it. Then my friend Keith and I went to a surprise birthday party for our friend who we do video editing work for. He’s the same guy I do the voice-over work for. It was fun and nice to surprise him.

While we were chatting, his father came up and said the sweetest thing to me. His dad would be in his mid 60’s I’d say. And he gave me the up and down look, and wanted to hug me, but my friend told him no, and to behave!

He then said, “Melissa, you are so lovely. You are a natural beauty. Just like my wife. She’s a natural beauty too, and we’ve been married for 40 plus years and she still takes my breath away.”

I was so flattered! I told him he was so sweet and that he made my day! Seriously though, how kind! He then told me that I should always smile, and that with my smile, I could have whatever I wanted! He then jabbed my friend Keith and said, “right?” Keith agreed.

ACK! I loved it!

But the nicest thing? When my friend introduced me to his father, he told him that I was one of the nicest, most kind, and good Christian person that he knows. THAT means more to me than anything else.

Sunday was a good day, I stepped out of my comfort zone and went to a small gathering of young people from Church. It was fun and I’ve made some new friends. I talked to them about work, and about my weight loss. They are all so kind and nice. I really like them.

All in all, a solid weekend.

Happy Monday friends!

“Everybody’s Workin’ for the Weekend”

  • Busy happenings this weekend: Corky tonight and tomorrow morning, long run and weights, grocery shopping and pillow shopping (mine suck) Saturday afternoon and Sunday is the Station’s Christmas party!
  • Going to see “Frozen” again with Holli after the party Sunday! I LOVE that movie! So I’m pumped. Then we’re going to get Froyo I believe. Sunday will be fantastic.
  • The Christmas party has so much amazing food: Waffle Station, Omelette Bar, Prime Rib Station, and then all the other food! YUM.
  • I’m also going to deep-clean my bathroom. Living the dream over here.
  • I work a bunch at Corky in the next 5 weeks. I’m excited. Paying off my credit cards could happen sooner rather than later!
  • I drank so much water today that I feel like I’ve spent most of my day running to the restroom. TMI? Sorry.
  • I am in the middle of “Eleanor and Park” on my Nook. OMG you guys. It is so freakin’ good.
  • On that note, I think I’m going to enjoy my Nook. I’m still getting used to it.
  • Fingers crossed for Sunday because the big prize giveaway at the Christmas party is a Big ol’ TV! And I’ve never won it. 10 years I’ve been at the station and its a no go. I don’t have a nice tv of my own, so this would be amazing! Think good thoughts for me?!

Happy Friday Friends! Enjoy your weekend!

  • It’s Friday!! I’m in a good mood, partially because of this little lady. Lola is coming to stay with me from Saturday until next Thursday. Puppy snuggles!!! Ack! She’s a doll.
  • I’m heading to Omaha tonight to see my BFF’s mom tonight. She had knee replacement surgery earlier this week. I need to make a card.
  • I’m working a double shift at Corky tomorrow.
  • It’s supposed to be 55 degrees here on Sunday. I’m supposed to run 6 miles. Coincidence? I think not!
  • A friend told me today that I have “happy handwriting”. That made me happy! I think to think my writing is as cheerful as I am! 🙂
  • I really like this song right now. Sorry I’m not sorry.
  • Also, thanks for all the kind words on this post. Ya’ll know how to make a girl feel good about herself!

Have a wonderful weekend friends!

Things that make me happy

  • With the cold temps I broke out some hot cocoa this afternoon for the Keurig. Mighty tasty. Yum.
  • It’s Friday!! (nuff said!)
  • I finally got paid from editing those videos last month (it took nearly a month, and I got $1250.00. Momma made BANK, baby! I’m using some for Christmas and saving $400 to make up for the additional expense when rent goes up in January when the roomie moves out. Fiscal responsibility FTW!
  • I’ve had 2 weeks off from the PT job–its been nice to have a break. But starting Saturday I work 5 days there in the next 7. Money, come to momma!
  • I’m in a ridiculously good mood. I don’t know why. I’m not going to fight it, just embrace it. My co-worker said that must mean I have a new guy in my life. LOL, NOPE! I’m done tying my happiness to a relationship or another person. My happiness comes from me.
  • I got my package for the Virtual Christmas Story 5k run. I plan on doing that on my treadmill tomorrow since its going to be 15 degrees.
  • I need to finish Christmas shopping-in particular for my Tumblr Secret Santa (and start it for everyone else. Whoops!)

Have a wonderful weekend friends!

Over-booking myself and FOMO

I’ve told you in This post that I think I’m an introverted extrovert. I like to be with people most of the time, but find that I definitely need my “me” time and when my weekends are too booked up I get a little growly about it.

Sunday was go-go-go from the minute I got up. I shouldn’t complain about having friends/plans/and people who want to see me. I went to Church in the morning, then I ate a quick lunch and went to the Pumpkin patch with one of my best friends and her husband:

After that, I jetted back to Lincoln for the Bon Jovi concert! It was great (I only knew about 7 songs, but wow, the guy puts on a great show! And I was able to take my parents (for free!) so that made it even better. It was nice to be able to do something nice for them for once!)

Now I say this because I DID have a good time, but part of why I accepted the tickets was FOMO (fear of missing out). I do this a lot in my life. I say yes to doing things that I don’t always want to do, just because I don’t want to miss out on things that others are doing. When in all reality, I should just realize that I DON’T actually want to do it, and be okay with saying no.

It’s a word I’ve got to work on. Saying no to others, and yes to myself.

What a novel concept.

Happy Monday friends! Make it great!
