Friday Five

Can you still do this on a Friday night? Whatever, I’m doing it.

  1. I just got home from the Capital Humane Society’s Annual dinner. I volunteered for their marketing team so I went to dinner for free. I ate dinner and now I’m in my PJ’s that say “Santa’s Little Helper” on them. I’ve clearly given up. 🙂
  2. As I was leaving work today my Sales Manager gave me 4 FREE tickets to the Bon Jovi concert at the new Arena on Sunday. The tickets are on the floor and not too far back. I’m excited. I’m taking my mom and dad and a friend. Should be a good time. Free is free, right?
  3. I’m feeling much better. It has been a week. I’ve dealt with some heartache (read: a break-up) and then a subsequent text from him on Wednesday, telling me how much this (the break-up) sucks and that he wants to talk to me, but doesn’t think that’s fair to me. You broke up with me!! Sheesh. I will survive and get through this. I’m strong. The normal happy, positive Melissa is (mostly) back! I missed her.
  4. I am working tomorrow night at Corky-the class is sold out. Fingers crossed for some decent tips. Sunday I’m going to the Pumpkin patch with friends. I was supposed to go with the ex manfriend and these friends. But I just can’t be with him right now…even though he thinks we can still be friends. Not right now and not so soon.
  5. After puppy-sitting for 5 days I realized something very important about myself: I’m NOT ready for a dog yet. At least not one that needs a lot of work like a young dog. I like my freedom.

I’m going to read some Harry Potter (I’m re-reading the series. I’m on book 6) and relax. I think I may even take a bubble bath. I’m living dangerously! 🙂 Sometimes a Friday night can be this chill and it’s ok. I think I’m allowed some ‘me’ time.

Happy Weekend Friends!

I just love you guys

Thanks for all the sweet compliments on this post. I had a good time at the reception last night. I only knew the bride, her mother and another former colleague. When I was meeting other people and they found out I worked with the bride at the TV station, they all assumed that I am also on air. Either as an anchor or a reporter. It was so strange! That NEVER happened before when I was heavier. People just assumed I worked behind the scenes. Weird how people make assumptions based on weight.

I hadn’t seen the bride in years, or about 80 pounds ago. Her mouth dropped open when she saw me. Talk about gratifying! 🙂

Tonight I’m heading to our Main Anchor’s annual bonfire at his home. Food, fire and friends. Should be a good time!

Happy Saturday friends!

Rest days are the best days!

I think I strained the arch of my left foot during the half Marathon on Sunday. It ached a bit then, and after resting it for 3 days I thought it was fine. But my subsequent 1 mile fast runs Wednesday and Thursday seemed to aggravate it. It just feels like I pulled it, ya know?

So last night after my run I told myself that I wouldn’t run for a few days…rest it and not actually hurt myself, right?

So imagine my surprise when I woke up early, raring to go! I thought I’d run. It’d be fine, I reasoned. My foot doesn’t currently hurt. Mother nature didn’t think that was a good plan. When I heard the rain I decided a run wasn’t in the cards for today. No need to run in the pitch black and the pouring rain! God must be protecting me, despite my tendency to push myself too hard!

So, I’m laying here, about to start my Marathon day…dentist appointment, 3 hour car ride, and 4 hour wedding reception. I love the calm in the morning before the chaos ensues.

Happy Friday friends! Have a fantastic day!

Good things on a Friday

  • First of all, it’s Friday!! Despite the fact that I have to work all day at the station tomorrow (we have the UCLA-Nebraska game, so I have a pre and post game show to run!) Its awesome that’s it’s finally Friday.
  • The weather is AWESOME. 70’s, low humidity, perfect almost-fall day. Yes please!
  • I had a great run this morning. (Always puts me in a good mood!)
  • 3 different people at 3 different times told me how good and fresh I smell. I’ve been told this before. I’m not sure what they are smelling…my hairspray, just my natural scent or the lotion I put on today (sweet cinnamon pumpkin!) but I love the compliments! 🙂 Made me feel good.
  • I curled my hair today. Always makes this girl feel pretty.image
  • It’s Husker Friday and payday (at both jobs!!)
  • And then there were these comments:

Yes Brooke, I did! I thought you, Bailee and Johnna when I got it out!

Thanks friends! You made my day!!

Well, it was chilly enough this morning for a long sleeve shirt! That’s my kind of weather! Great run, about a minute faster than yesterday! What a difference cooler temps and lower humidity make with my heart problem. Yesterday my pace was 11:20/mile. Today? 10:20/mile! That’s fantastic for me! I was also running a 8:15 pace for awhile! Success!

Happy Friday friends!

Monday Check-In

This was a pretty fantastic weekend. ‘Nuff said.

I’m going to get froyo tonight with some of the lovely Lincoln Tumblr ladies. Its been way too long since we’ve gotten together. I’m excited to see them.

I only got about 4 hours of sleep Saturday night into Sunday (YOLO? Whatevs, I’m not sorry.) And so I was exhausted yesterday. I spent much of the day in a fog…lounging about. I even dozed off in the backyard while reading magazines in my lounge chair! When I was about to fall asleep at 6:45pm on the couch I knew it was time to go to bed. I was in bed at 8:00pm. Again, not sorry.

I haven’t run since Friday morning and a run isn’t looking too likely tonight. I’m strangely ok with it. I plan on 3-5 miles in the morning.

On the other side, I’ve lost about 4 pounds in the past few weeks. My appetite has been non-existant. Not wanting to eat means when I do eat I make good choices-and I don’t eat dessert! 🙂

Less than 2 weeks until football season! I’m pumped. Love me some Husker football.

Hope everyone had a great weekend and a wonderful Monday!

“Everybody’s workin’ for the weekend”

True story. I’m ridiculously excited about this weekend!

  • I’m off from both jobs! I need a break!
  • I’m going to Omaha to spend the weekend with my bff Candace. (and her hubby too)
  • We’re getting Thai food tonight (Pad Thai FTW!) shopping and just having some wonderful girl time today and Saturday. I need it.
  • She and her husband own a coffee shop so I will get a special non-coffee beverage. Love life.
  • Sunday I have tentative plans to eat Mexican food and ride bikes (not in that order!) with my friend Keith. It’s a frate! (friend-date!)
  • I plan on a run sometime Sunday. If it happens, good, if not. That’s okay too. Life happens sometimes.

Happy Friend friends!

Scenes from my 7 Mile run.

It was a gorgeous 62° here this morning! Not a cloud in the sky, and very low humidity! It is amazing how much better I run when conditions are like that! My first few Miles were at a 9:57 pace. That’s fast for me!

I paused along the way to snap a shot of this pretty area. Not a park, but I think it’s someone’s backyard! So lush and green.

And that’s me, post-run. Have ya missed seeing my sweaty face? 🙂 I know I’ve missed the workouts!

Also, does this happen to anyone else…during longer runs, like 5+ miles, my butt muscles get tight. Like I feel like I have knots in there. I don’t know if it’s my posture or what but it happens frequently. Today, I could really use a butt massage! 😉

Just wondering!

Happy Saturday friends!
