There are some days when you wake up and just know its going to be a good day. Today was one of those days.
After a breakfast of pancakes and eggs I watched the Nebraska-Penn St. game with my family. Its been a week of scandal and off the field drama at Penn St. But my Huskers persevered and won the game 17-14! (It came down to the last second!!)
After that, I set off on a run, outdoors style. Its been awhile since I’ve run outside. 3 weeks to be exact. That run sucked. I couldn’t get the breathing and running to get in sync. Today’s run?
Fan-freakin’-tastic!
I wanted 5 miles, hoped for a 5k but would settle for 4 miles. I was not trying to set any land-speed records today. I just wanted to get back out there and run. And I did. My pace was all over the place, 12:20ish to 9:55 before I finally settled in at a 10:45 pace. I took walk breaks. I didn’t beat myself up for them. Instead, I just enjoyed the run.
At the point where I can turn off for a 5k or can keep going for 4-5 miles, I was so close to turning. But, then I thought about everyone who was running a half-marathon today. And all the people who can’t run, for whatever reason. And I kept going. I tackled the two big hills on the route and decided that 4 miles would be enough for the girl who had barely run in 4 weeks.
I felt alive! What a good run, an amazing run. Time to think, clear my mind and just enjoy the world around me.
I was deep in thought and concentrating on my music when a car full of teenage boys drove past me, yelling “whoo-hoo!” out the window at me. I actually jumped! Made me feel good though! You don’t get that on the treadmill, do you?!
And, as I have told you in the past, my back has been bothering me for months! Today? No pain! It was wonderful!
Tonight, I am hanging out with one of my best friends, Candace. I haven’t seen her in awhile, so it is much needed girl time. She always knows how to help me put things in perspective.
Anywho, I hope you all have a wonderful weekend friends!
