Tall Girl Problems:

This is my view on a daily basis: The “full length” mirrors cut me off at the top of the head…especially when I wear heels. Sigh. First world problems over here.

I’m loving my outfit today! My co-worker keeps telling me how much she likes it too. Made my day! Another said that I strut when I walk wearing high heels! I can’t help it, they make me feel sexy!

All in all, its a decent day. I have one more night of editing and then I’m done! I’m so excited, these past 3 weeks have made me nuts.

I’m off on Monday-we have another postgame show next weekend so I get an ENTIRE day to myself! Can’t wait!

Tomorrow night at my PT job the class is sold out…hoping for some decent tips! 🙂

Happy Thursday friends!

Good Things

  • It’s Tuesday and I’m off. Day 3 of a 3 day weekend. I had to work at the TV station on Saturday so I took a comp day today and a vacation day Monday. I still have 8 vacation days to burn before the end of the year. I plan on taking the entire week at Christmas off! (Its like I’m back in school! I love it!) But that only burns 4 days. So I’m taking the Thursday and Friday before Christmas too. Since November is a ratings book, we can’t take time off in November. So its all coming out of December. I’m excited for a break.
  • I feel like I’m caught up on sleep. I’m sure that feeling will go away again once I go back to work tomorrow. 😦
  • I ran some miles Sunday and Monday. Today its gross and rainy here. I know that’s no excuse but its all I’ve got. The heart wants what the heart wants.
  • I work A LOT this week: I worked at Corky last night made $18 in tips, then I work tomorrow, Friday and Saturday nights there too.
  • I’m also editing videos for my friend. 6 down and more to go. That’s at least $600 in the bank! The time crunch editing sucks but I love the end result (money!) Christmas is fast approaching.
  • I bought some new skinny jeans to wear with my boots today. I got them at Wal-Mart. I ain’t even mad about it.
  • The leaves here are gorgeous. Fiery red and a bright yellow. Even in the gloom of the day they make me happy.

  • The first 2 pictures are from Sunday. It was sheer autumn perfection here: Sunny, 70 degrees and a vibrant blue sky. The 3rd picture was from today. I tried to catch the leaves falling, but my photography skills aren’t THAT awesome!
  • I’m going to watch ‘Hocus Pocus’ tonight. Maybe even some ‘Teen Witch’ too.

Have a great Tuesday friends!

Today marks a major milestone in my broadcasting career: I’ve been at my TV station for 10 years! An entire decade! How did that happen? On the left is my first picture at the station. We have a board where they put our photos downstairs…I’ve actually gone through several pictures because I have changed so much! On the right is me, just a few days ago!

What a difference a decade makes! 🙂

Here’s to the next 10 years!

Also, that HAIR?! What was I thinking? It was short enough to spike in the back–now my hair is the longest its ever been in my adult life, and I love it! 🙂

Newbies

I work with a bunch of early 20 somethings. Most of them have just graduated college. I get it. Lincoln is a starter TV market. We can’t be too picky.

HOWEVER!

Today I met our new Director. All of our other directors are 34-40 years old.

New Director has been directing for about a year. He has also done some on-air work.

New Director is 18-years-old.

18-freakin’ years old.

I kid you not.

A teenager will be directing my Husker Football Pre and postgame shows! He can just barely vote! But assures me he will be 19 in January! Oy. You’re still a teenager, son!

BRB, I’ve officially entered crazyland.

Things I’m doing right now: editing a music video for my friend that pays me to edit and do voice-over work for him.

The song is Mackelmore and Ryan Lewis, “Can’t hold us”.

After editing to it for 2 hours I officially hate it.

However, look at this sweet computer he set me up with! Its freaking awesome!

I just wanna go to bed… 😦

This day. Ugh.

Today marks two mornings in a row of being woken up in the middle of the night by a work phone call. This time, my Chief Meteorologist called to tell me at 1:45am that our Morning Meteorologist was sick and he needed to call someone in, but who? Our weekend girl (who has Thursday and Friday off) or my roomie (also a Meteorologist) and works Thursdays. I told him to call my roomie and went back sleep.

Clearly I was out of it. She literally lives one floor below me, I could have gotten up and ran downstairs. But in my defense it was the middle of the night and I was tired!

Then I forced myself to get up and run, despite being quite tired, because I thought I had a froyo fundraiser to go to tonight for a friend. Turns out it’s NEXT Thursday. I could have slept in!! Oh well, workout is done! And it was a fantastic morning for a run-60’s, low humidity, nice day!

Then the news day got crazy…we had an inmate who was out on work release escape-made for an exciting few hours! He was just caught about 2 miles away from the station.

All I want to do is go home and chill.

But I need to get a few groceries and I think I may go for a bike ride. This day is gorgeous! I really shouldn’t waste it.

I better not get a middle of the night work call tonight–heads will roll! 😉

Hope you have a great rest of the day friends!

Perks of working at a painting/wine bar

At my part time at the Corky canvas, after a bottle of wine is open for 4 days, we either dump it out or we can take it home.

Tonight I went thru the cooler before the class started to check the dates on the open bottles. 6 bottles fell under the 4 day rule.

The instructor and I spilt them up…and I came home with a half full bottle of champagne, bubbly Moscato, chardonnay, and some peach sparkletini! My roomies LOVE me!

And the chiropractor in the strip mall next to us was having a ladies night out, and they gave us free food, a full box of crackers, and coupons for a free first chiropractor appointment!

I’m pleased with tonight! And I get to do it all over again tomorrow!

Night friends!

How did life get so busy?

I started working at the Corky Canvas this week. I trained a bit Monday and then observed and did some bar sales last night. It was fun. I think I’m going to like the job. And the extra $80-$120 every 2 weeks should be pretty awesome.

This was last night’s painting they did:

My boss and I were changing out some of the display wine on the wall, she gave me a bottle of Pinot to take home. I, of course, promptly forgot it at the studio. I don’t work there again until Thursday so who knows if it will still be there. Oh well. I’m not a big drinker anyway.

I worked Monday and Tuesday nights there, had a late dinner with a college friend Monday, have tonight off, and work at Corky Thursday and Friday nights. I feel like I don’t have much time to catch my breath this week. But its ok. It’s good. It’s distracting me from the fact that the one guy that I like that I went out with a few weeks ago hasn’t called in several days. Distractions are good.

In other news, I told Brooke last night that I was going to get up early and run before work this morning. Do we think that happened?

Nope. But, I’m going to run 3 easy miles tonight when I get home. Promise! Then I have to run Thursday morning and Friday morning. There’s no other time to do it.

Tonight, my roomie and I are going to make guacamole, relax and watch tv. (after I run, promise!) I need a ‘me’ night.

I want to write a Fargo weekend recap. Because that weekend was too awesome not to recap. Perhaps tonight? We shall see.

Have a good day friends!

Thursday things

  • Last night I got into it with the resident Bizzo at my work. The attacks became personal across a crowded newsroom. My boss wasn’t mad at me, but at her. And I learned something about myself: if that would have happened a few years ago, I would have cried either during it or after. Because anger used to turn to tears for me. But now? I’m older and wiser (HA!) and tears don’t come during fights.
  • The rage I felt during the argument fueled my run (she asked me what I do I all day, because a mistake was made that wasn’t my fault. Then she accused of me of copying and pasting the news!) Needless to say I was enraged.
  • I set out last night to run 5 miles. Since I moved, I miscalculated the distance and ended up running 7 miles instead. I think I needed it.
  • I also ended up running super fast. It’s amazing what anger will do for a run! On the route with the big hill I ended up running a 6:59/pace down the hill! I felt like I was flying!!
  • I was consistently running a sub 10:00/mile. I also ran a 8:45/mile. That is incredibly fast for me! Rage-fueled runs can be awesome. I even was running into a pretty good headwind and it started sprinkling a bit.
  • A car-full of teenage boys yelled “hey baby, can I have your number?” at me. Its always nice when that happens!
  • The Lincoln Half-Marathon is May 5th. I’m feeling pretty good about my training.

Have a good Thursday Friends! 🙂

Click-Clack

Ladies, want a surefire way to get noticed when you’re out and about? It’s easy!

Just wear your favorite pair of power pumps and a great outfit and run errands!

I finally got my lazy butt out of bed and ran 5 miles before work this morning so I had some time after work to run some errands. One of those included a Target run. As I was striding purposefully towards the food section my heels were click-clacking all the way as I walked. And wouldn’t you know it? Nearly every person I passed, man or woman, turned to look at me. I’m fairly sure I even caught a few admiring looks from a few guys! All in all, it was a good Target run! 🙂

In other news, today was my lunch with the General Manager and a few other co-workers. And when it was time for me to talk about myself and I told them my story of how I got into the News Biz and got to work at my TV Station and I told them a little bit about my personal life too. Everyone else in the room was older than me, so they had talked about their marriages and kids. My GM knows that I am single but dating. He asked me if I wanted to get married someday, and I told him yes, but I was still looking for the right one. The guy who said yesterday that I had 13 or 14 boyfriends made a comment that in the meantime, I was a dating machine! Roger, (The GM) laughed, and said that every time he sees me out in the evenings I am with a different guy, so he thought that was true! Everyone’s a critic.

That was embarrassing!

But seriously, I have only seen him out when I’ve been on dates 3 times and yes, each time I was with someone else. But still, no judgement, right? Oy.

Well friends, have a great night!
